I bought these repair parts because one of the cables on my garage door extension spring frayed and broke. Fortunately, I had the safety cable installed through the spring so there was no damage when the cable broke and the spring released its energy. To replace the cable, it is tied to the connector piece by threading through the two smaller holes and the largest hole clips onto the S hook attached near the door. The picture on the product page (pic1) shows the end of the cable cut cleanly. That is easily tied to the connector piece as was done for the broken cable (pic2). However, the cable comes with a ferrule crimped onto the cable end (pic3). That ferrule does not fit through the smaller holes in the connector piece. Since I couldn't wait until getting a replacement repair part, I had to grind the ferrule until it was round and small enough to pass through those holes (pic4). While the parts are good quality, you should not have to make this modification to use the cables. ... show more

    • This kit included everything but the springs to completely rebuild the garage door mechanical system
My problem is that the garage door quit opening. The extension springs were stretched and not working. On further observation, I found the cables frayed and both pulleys locked up and not turning. I was able to get two springs but they were of a different length than the old ones. This kit of parts saved the day. It contained all the parts I needed. I replaced the old broken pulleys. The kit has two pairs of cables and one of them was the exact type I needed. Fortunately, the cables were longer than actually needed so I could adjust for the shorter extension springs. This kit had what exactly what I needed to replace a fraying cable on my garage door. Including two sizes of cable was nice as I wasn’t sure which one I should get and could just compare the new ones to the existing cable. I ended up buying two more pulleys so I could replace all of them at the same time, but this kit had everything else I needed and saved me time hunting down all the hardware separately. ... show more
