  • Great Shocks for added load capacity! Been using them for 30 years! Ride great!
Gabriel Hiackers Air Shocks have always been a reliable, cheap and easy to install choice when you need extra load capacity. I currently have a set on my 2001 ram 1500 that have been in use daily now for over years! I have a firewood delivery business and load 1200lbs of firewood in the bed plus pull a 4500lb trailer daily over 30k miles per year. my stock suspension just sits on the bump stops with this load. When I added the gabriels and put 150 psi air to them (rated at 250 max) it rides like nothing is there. They easily add over 1200 lbs capacity to the truck and never have to fill them back up! Had them installed by a tire shop for $70 but could have easily done myself if I had about an hour to spare. This pair has been purchased for my Grand Caravan with sagging rear suspension. I am turning this van into a work van so I need an extra 1000lb load capacity for all my tools and generator which these air shocks work perfectly for! I have been using Gabriels for 30 years without problems and still have a set on a 65 mustang that still hold air at least 6 months, installed in 1991. ... show more

  • Great shocks for a van WITHOUT self adjusting shocks
I purchased these shocks for our 2001 Chrysler T & C that we use to tow a 3400lb pop up camper. First, these are for a dodge/chrysler mini van without self leveling shocks from the factory. Our van has all the towing add-ons but does not have the self-adjusting rear shocks. The new camper we bought has 300lb tongue weight whereas our old camper only had 150lb. This was too much for the factory set up so I bought this kit and had it installed at a tire garage. I load up the van with bikes, luggage... then add 120lbs of pressure to the shocks. The rear end rises up and the suspension gets stiff. I connect the camper and there's no bottoming out or sag. An excellent fix to our van for towing. I highly recommend this kit for towing or hauling heavy loads. Just make sure you have standard rear shocks and not self leveling. ... show more

  • Easy install, good performance
I put these on a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country Touring. They went on very easily. I only had to jack up the car and remove the rear wheel. The only small complication was that I couldn't extend the shocks manually. I just hooked up the air lines and inflated them with a small compressor to get them extended, and then let the air out before installing on the car. 75 psi gets the back of the van nice and level for towing. I recommend them for folks like me who tow with a Chrysler minivan. ... show more

  • Good shocks, lousy instructions
Easy part first - they seem to be holding air, and if they continue to do so, they should do exactly what is needed. However, it took some effort to get to this point. Physical installation of the shocks presented no major obstacles - while fatter than the originals, nothing was particularly difficult to fit. However, by the following morning my 90 psi pressure had become naught. As was mentioned in another review, several O rings are attached to some of the air supply tubing, and 2 are included in the accessory bag. But nowhere in the "instructions" do they mention what the proper configuration is - indeed, the instructions seem to show one connector with 4 O rings, (see fig M in the enclosed copy of the "instructions"). However there are not enough O rings to go around were that the case, and it would be impossible to screw in the connectors with 4 O rings attached. My choice placed 2 O rings on each of the Schrader valve connectors, leaving 1 for each of the shock fittings. So far, that seems to be providing a good seal, but it's only been one day. I'd advise taking care with the running of the air lines to avoid sharp metal that could damage the air lines, as well as staying clear of the exhaust system - in my mini van, the rear muffler runs the width of the van near the rear fascia; it's probably wise to keep the plastic tubing as far from that as possible. I'm posting the entire "instruction" sheets along with this review - in my opinion it's only marginally better than no instructions at all. And I've been around cars for a LOT of year, but the included illustrations look nothing like any part of any car I've ever seen. Finally, my particular kit contained none of the straps illustrated in fig L. I don't know how they will survive in the under-car environment, but I used a LOT of cable ties to keep the air tubing in place. As I said at the outset, I'm hoping the system is air-tight now - I wasn't looking for a hobby keeping these things pumped. ... show more

  • i can say so for so good. easy installation 1
i can say so for so good. easy installation 1.5 hrs had both shocks on and air lines run. the black clips with new 1/4 drill bit made running the air lines very easy. i am not a machanic i am that diy guy. i am a dj that carry's a lot of equipment in a mini van needed something to help the leaf springs sometimes a dip in the road you could feel the mini van bottom out this seems to be working find. o the other great part of this is when the van is not loaded with the air set at 35 to 45lbs rides just like it did with stock shocks. thank you Gabriel shocks ... show more

  • Works excellent for towing my bass boat now
Installed on my 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan. Works excellent for towing my bass boat now, before it was overloaded. The shocks were a snap to replace but it was difficult to route the hoses because there's virtually no room on the bottom of the Caravan that isn't close to the muffler, but I did manage to route along the leaf-springs to my hitch and tied together with the T-connector at the rear. I recommend you pressurize the lines slowly, I set my compressor with a regulator of 60 psi. At 50 psi fill, it rides very well overall and towing my boat. ... show more

  • Very easy to install, held our VAN higher and more stable when required
PROS Very easy to install, hose is stiff but easy to install also. Held our VAN much higher and much more stable when required, release air when not. Pumps up with very little air, a bike pump is plenty Very inexpensive compared to other units. Even when lightly aired really increases handling nicely. Noticable difference. CONS When lightly loaded you can sometimes hear the shocks bump sometimes. Its not much but I have noticed it sometimes No other cons, Work exactly as advertised, inexpensive, very effective, and make a heavily loaded vehicle much safer on the road. ... show more
