  • Brought Our Family Together
These devotions great! Our Pastors recommended this book to us. When we first received it, I thought they were too short. But the discussion would get so lenghty, that we had to give ourselves a time limit. Lol. Our teenage son actually opens up and participates in the discussions and we let him close us out in prayer. He's growing so much and we're learning a lot about each other. I highly recommend this book for your family. Just stay consistent with your family devotions. ... show more

  • SOLID!!
Except for the occasional "non-King James" quotes, this is a fantastic family devotional. I use it with our 10 and 11 year girls and do occasionally edit out more mature topics (mature, not unbiblical) as they aren't quite ready for that, but I don't have to do that very often. For some, the non-King James references may not be a big deal, but we believe the King James is as close to the original Greek and Hebrew as is physically possible so therefore we won't use anything else. On the occasions this happens in this devotional, I just look up the reference in my Bible and read it from there. Overall, if you are looking for a solid family devotional, this is it. I docked a star for the occasional deviation from the King James (they deviate to the NKJV). ... show more

  • Perfect devotional for families with teens
This devotional is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Each one is short and dives right into the Bible. The book goes through the entire New Testament in 400-something days. There are also discussion questions at the end of each devotional that my teens will actually discuss!

  • Great
Got this for my 15 year old son. We have only read through the first two, but so far we both really like it. I find that asking him the questions at the end of each one, letting him think about them, then having him actually answer them later in the day works really well. It gives him an opportunity to process and then having him actually verbally answer in his own words is a very profitable exercise. When you move the concepts you know in your mind, and have known for years (or have been told), into words of your own choosing, it very much solidifies even the basics of your faith. I would recommend this book for 13 and older for sure. ... show more

  • Hokey examples. Poor use of scripture.
Teens have an incredible sense for hokey examples and patronizing language. This book activates those sensor, unfortunately, with regularity. White, in speaking of following Christ, tells -- as though it were fact -- a made-up story of KGB agents who stormed a church, scaring off the lukewarm believers, only to tell the remaining faithful that they too are Christians. Even in the days before Snopes, when this book was written, discerning readers should have been able to tell that this was . . . not based on reality. He does this frequently, telling stories of how "Chad" and "Amy" went on a date (temptations!) or how a family dealt with hardship that he clearly thought up himself for the purposes of the story. His use of Scripture is somewhat ham-handed. Each page begins with a passage from the Bible, which White then interprets for his readers. But his interpretations are haphazard. He uses beautiful prophecy of a glorious coming Christ to warn against temptations (to teen sex, apparently). He cites Scripture about counting the cost of following the Lord and proceeds to tell how the US has become like Sodom and Gomorrah. I had no strict problem with his homilies after the scripture reference, except that there was often no tie between the two. In fairness, for the two weeks we used this book, our teenage children did benefit from the prompts for family discussion. But we had to heavily edit these to make them workable. ... show more

  • Great family devotion
Very great family devotion. Our children are ages 13 & 11 and have really enjoyed this. It has even helped myself and husband learn more inregards to helping the kids live a more Christ filled life

  • Great for family devotions
We needed some guidance for devotions at the dinner table and this book has been great. The stories are good and the questions are challenging, for the teens as well as for the parents. We have kids ranging from 10-18 and it could happen that we need to skip a day as we find the subject a little too mature for the little ones. This is not strange since this is a book for teens and doesn't make this book less appropriate for little kids, however I would screen what is going to be read if you would like to use it for younger kids. ... show more

  • Great devotion for families
This devotion has been perfect for our family. It starts with a Bible verse, then a short story or commentary, then questions. We take turns reading. The reader gets to ask the other family members the questions - even Mom and Dad. Our kids are teenagers so at first they found it awkward but now they are more comfortable sharing and talking about what we learn. It is good for them to see that even as adults you struggle with some of the same things that you struggle with as teens. ... show more
