[original review] Want to add the random factor to your work? If so, the Four @ "High-Accurate" variable pippetor is the pippetor for you. Each draw will vary by a factor of 3x or 4x from the next in the series. Life is too full of certainties, thrill in the excitement of never knowing what will come next! When I got my pipette, I got maybe 200 uses out of it before it broke. When I ejected a tip, the entire inner sleeve broke...clip cracked and the inside shot out into the garbage can. The rest of the unit in my hand shortly followed. I’m not a high volume user as I use this for just adding a ml or so of essential oils to topical formulations. If I was in micro, this wouldn’t have lasted a day. When Four E's Scientific was informed of my issue they took action: Corrective Action: My broken unit was immediately replaced. Not only did they replace it but they gave me 3 of them! And shipping...I got them with a day or two. Preventive Action: Four E's Scientific ensured me their QA department will pay extra attention to this potential problem area when my unit broke and preform extra testing to ensure integrity. Four E's works really well and seems well built, unlike the other brands I tried first and had to return. It isn't super accurate but it is close enough for our use. Easy to clean. I'd buy this again.

    • Impossible to Calibrate to Accuracy

I give this one free star because the company is working so hard to guarantee customer satisfaction. They sent me a message trying to make sure I was satisfied. But the reality is there is nothing their message can fix about this device and if I knew someone had had the experience that I just had with it, I probably wouldn't have bought it. The best customer service in the world can't carry the weight of a product that functions this poorly. As anyone reading this probably knows, 1000uL of water weighs 1g. I was using tap water, which some people have found to weigh as much as 1.003g, which is fine. When I used this device at the 1000uL setting, I was getting over 1.100g. Which is an error of over 100uL. Which is supposed to be the normal operating range of the device. So just calibrate it, right? Sadly, no. I followed the instructions to calibrate the device by pulling in less water on the 1000uL setting using the tool provided. This works by unscrewing a plastic nut below the plunger. The more I unscrewed it, the more unstable the plunger felt. But I was still only down to about 1.050g for my 1000uL measurement of water. So I kept unscrewing. And, sure enough, the plastic nut popped off and out came the spring from under the plunger. So it is impossible to calibrate my device to anything close to 1.000g for the 1000uL setting. The plastic calibration nut will literally pop off before I can get the device to the amount of water to even be close. I verified that the amount was wrong both by calibrating my scale and by emptying the water into a graduated cylinder on the scale (tared, of course). The other two devices were in agreement about the inaccuracy. Would the seller send me a new device? I'm sure they would. But this experience was so frustrating and the quality of the calibration nut was so bad that I really wouldn't want to go through the hassle of risking yet another bad experience with this device. ... show more

Used for aquarium water testing. Initial 5000uL dispense was repeatably 5050g but was easily fixed with calibration tool. Easy to operate, light. Highly recommended for low throughput tasks.
