I did not have a hard time at all putting this together. The backing isn’t one that is nailed in, either, it’s a thick cardboard that slides into place so there’s a smaller chance of the back falling apart like the walmart shelves. Clearly holds plenty of books, and fits well in smaller spaces. It is as tall as the Mainstays walmart bookshelves if you’re like me and need them to be the some height. ... show more

It's a typical particle board shelf. Not going to survive a hurricane, but looks decent when built. Pretty pricey, but then again what isn't inflated in the Biden world we live in currently. Instructions and parts/holes/pieces all lined up fine on 3 of these that I built so far. My main complaint would be the misleading photos that show a one piece unit from top to bottom. Overpriced for what it is. The finish is not great. It was packaged pretty well. Fairly easy to assemble. Finishing screws on the back we’re annoying. Not in love with it, but it works in the space where I need it. The stickers look stupid and don’t match the paint, but it was that or the bare screws. There is some gapping. The shelves only have preset placements so unlike many bookshelves, you are very limited in what you can do. There are several inch gaps between main anchor shelves and where the additional adjustable ones can go. If you have a few more inches, I’d just get the smaller Billy bookcase. I didn’t quite have enough room for the smaller one next to my big one. I wish I did, but I’m about 3 inches short on room. Not worth the hassle of returning when this will work how I need it to for now. Could be so much better though & kind of a letdown. ... show more

Very narrow and lightweight! Use the wall anchors for maximum stability, otherwise it might be a little flimsy. Mass produced novels (the short fat paperbacks) will fit just fine, while larger books (dictionaries, encyclopedias) might need a bit of a shuffle. The media could not be loaded. I am really happy with this purchase. The parts were all labeled well, instructions were easy to follow and it took me less than 30 min to put it together myself. The shelves have small cut outs in them so it makes them fit nicely on the pegs. They are adjustable so you can choose so many variations.
