Was a big hit on his birthday. He's in the stage where he likes to build "forts" and invite friends over for hiding and sleepovers. Some of the pieces are directional and have arrows on them so you can position them in the correct way to line up the other connection pieces, depending on the shape you're after. It was funny to observe his father and an uncle immediately starting to put something together without reading the directions. And getting stuck quickly because the parts didn't line up correctly. The instructions show drawings of several shapes, so, as usual, it is a good idea to read the instructions and not assume you will just know it all. ... show more

This is so much fun for kids and adults! The connector pieces seem to hold everything together really well, and the rods are pretty sturdy and can easily support a comforter. You can make so many shapes, and there were even enough pieces to make two smaller forts! This kit has provided hours of fun for the kids, and adults and keeps everyone entertained for so long. My kids have loved playing with these. They are 7 years old and have been very capable of attaching the rods to the connectors. They sometimes need to ask for help to get the rods out of the connectors when disassembling their creations. The rods have tips on each end that snap into the connectors. These tips come off in the connector sometimes, which makes it difficult to get that tip out. The tip usually goes right back on the rod. I have had one connector come apart so far; it got pulled apart when taking the rods out. I can put it back together, but it will definitely fall apart the next time it's used, so I plan to use a little super glue to hold it together. If it breaks after that, oh well. The set comes with a lot of rods (they are all the same length) and a good variety of connectors. My kids love them and my husband wants to get more for his students at his elementary school library. ... show more

    • Much Better Than We Thought, Lots of Options!

This was a lot better than we thought! There are a lot of different set ups and configurations, and once you build on pre-made/one from instructions, you can easily modify it. You can also build your own, and bed sheets hang off these to make it enclosed in without an issue. Heavy blankets will cause it to bend a little if not well-made (that engineering that YOU have to do, remember, boxes and triangles!). Overall, added a lot of fun. Some connectors (the couplings) DO present a choking hazard if you have a little one that puts things in their mouth or if you have a baby along with your big-boy toddler. But that can be easier removed and kept away from them on the counter. Once it is built, it would be pretty hard for a baby to pull off a coupling to chew on. And with all products like this, you need to be supervising if you have a little one anyway. Great product, we made into a fort and a large parking garage for trucks. It was hours of play for sure. Putting it together was not too bad once you figured it out and how to get the right angles (TIP: keep on the top of the circle pieces the hole with all the arrows pointing to it facing up, and that way you'll get the perfect 45 degree angles for like a triangle roof). I'll note that I think it was harder to dissemble because the parts all snap together pretty decently, so it isn't an easy task. Also the box it came in is perfectly sized, so it takes a little effort to get everything back in there all together, which is a little frustrating, so it might be worth upgrading to a plastic storage bin so you have extra space. Therefore, GREAT product, we definitely like it quite a bit and so do our kids. It was better than we thought, and a hit. Great for your kids or as a gift. Enjoy! ... show more

My daughters have a kit from a well-known brand, but they always have been a bit short on how many pieces they wanted. I love fort kits like this because they're so open ended and versatile and my 8 and 10-year-olds still enjoy building with them. This set comes with 200 pieces and a larger variety of connector pieces. The poles from our other set fit in the connectors (though not quite as tightly - still tight enough to be stable), but the poles from this set are a little bit shorter, so it would be hard to mix and match that way. Overall, though, it's a great set with comparable quality to the other one, and it's a great value. ... show more
