  • Amazing book from an amazing person
Brian Tracy is a legend and I really admire how he inspires other people to live their best life. This book is great, and contains a lot of practical tips that if applied consistently, can push your life forward.

  • Great book...
I am hesitant to give anything 5 stars... This one should be 4.5 stars, though. Most anything Brian Tracy is good, and this is no exception. I have some of his CD sets, books, and am on his e-mail list (which shares a lot of good, but with a few too many sales pitches, the same as anything that is free). I am 2/3 of the way through this book, and slowing down in reading it because I don't want it to be over... Probably will read it again in the near future. If you want a great book, 5 stars, that I read every year, and read with my kids, get "The Richest Man In Babylon". But, don't forgo "Focal Point". Stop reading here if you don't want to see some of what is in the book... Highlights: the 80/20 rule (which is indispensable to success in almost anything), take small actions every day towards your goal(s), continue your education and improve yourself continuously (turn your vehicle into a university on wheels)... I have done much of what Brian Tracy says, and I can vouch that this book will work, if you work it. Read it, study it, implement some of what Brian suggests, and you will make your life better. My focus has been financial, and growing up poor, at 43 I am already financially free, with over a 6-figure income from rental properties, whether I work or not. I got my start with books and CDs, from guys like Brian Tracy, Robert Allen and Mark Victor Hansen, Jack Canfield, Robert Kiyosaki, and Jeffrey Taylor aka Mr. Landlord. First you change the inside, then, over time, you see changes on the outside. T. Harv Eker uses TFAR - Thoughts lead to Feelings lead to Actions lead Results. Self-improvement doesn't yield results overnight, but if you stay with it, it does work. For most people, it is the only way to a better life, and "Focal Point" is a good starting point. ... show more

  • Focal Point Both Asks the Right Questions, and Provides Valuable Answers
In the first two pages of Focal Point, Brian Tracy tells an anecdote so powerful and real, readers could stop right there and still receive tremendous value. He walks the walk by making the focal point of his book crystal clear. But it's just as well he wrote the following 222 pages, as he provides so many ways to translate the core concept into everyday practices. He applies the "Focal Point Process" to financial, spiritual, community, and personal objectives. Chapters include "Improve Your Family and Personal Life", "Enjoy Superb Health and Fitness", "Make a Difference in Your Community" and Spiritual Development and Inner Peace". The ideas may not be novel, but the combination is robust, and the touchstones are useful in shifting to a more positive and effective mindset. For example, the "1,000 Percent Formula" offers the approach of achieving great change incrementally. The "Law of Increasing Returns" states that the more you focus time on activities that bring the most value, the better and more efficient you get at doing them, so your returns on effort and energy increase. "Zero-based thinking" means asking yourself, "`Is there anything I am doing right now that, knowing what I now know, I wouldn't get into again if I were starting over today....If your answer is `yes', then your next question is, `How do I get out of this situation, and how fast?'" Focal Point consolidates time management and prioritization guidelines useful in life and business. Collectively, the perspectives and questions both challenge current thought patterns (which may not be so productive) and suggest new ones (which are productive). Throughout, Focal Point encourages readers to concentrate on the activities through which they provide the greatest value, and accordingly, absorbing this underlying theme may be greatest value readers gain from the book. ... show more

  • Fantastic method. ~$10 for the kindle version and audio ...
Fantastic method. ~$10 for the kindle version and audio book is well worth it to me to get a reminder and refresher of the path Brian Tracy took to success and what he's learned along the way from others. Basically the premise of the book is finding a leverage point, the "first domino to fall" kind of thing, where to "put the X" in certain areas of your life. After dividing your life up into areas (Brian gives examples of different life categories but I used my own), he gives a 7 step process for maximizing your efforts in improving that area: 1. the values that are most important to you in that area 2. your vision for that area if your life were perfect in 5 years 3. the goals it will take to achieve that vision 4. the knowledge and skills it will take to achieve the goals that are required to achieve the vision 5. habits that you need to develop 6. daily activities to build the habits 7. actions you need to take now I have found the process to be useful. I'll be back in a year to update how it went. ... show more
