When looking at this and deciding to buy it, the price seemed rather expensive for what it is... basically a few magnets encased in plastic. And upon receiving it and opening the box, just looking at it -- I was less than impressed. But whoa!! That all changed the first time I used it! I have a 55 gallon planted goldfish tank that gets allot of light. And so stubborn algae on the glass has always been an big issue (Side note: I have been an aquariumist for over 37 years..... so I have seen and used allot of glass cleaners, including many magnet style ones.) Anyway, I opened the package and took it out and put it in the tank to use it Still thinking.... boy -- 39.00 seems like allot for this gizmo. ONE SWIPE. Yes folks... all it took just one swipe up and down the glass and I was hooked. One swipe up and down, using the "blade" side, took of almost ALL of the stubborn embedded algae that previously 10 min. of scrubbing had failed to remove. This scraper has an ingenious design- It has two little raised "bumps" on the blade side that make it press "nose down"on the glass at a VERY slight angle-- Thus causing the blade "nose" of the scraper press on the glass with a bit more force than the opposite end of the scraper. It is hard to describe this unusual little feature, but you will see it when you examine the unit. And I feel this adds greatly to its effectiveness because it works like a charm! Plus, the magnets held fast on the 55 gallon tank I was using it on. They are definitely NOT weak magnets. It has very strong magnets. Some other features are: It is two sided (Hence the name "Flipper") Flip it over from the blade side, and it also has the conventional "scrub pad" side that is perfect for removing slime algae and film. It also comes with an interchangeable plastic scraper blade to use instead of the metal blade. You would use this plastic scraper blade plexi and acrylic tanks. I was very pleased and would recommend this scraper. Yes, it is kind of expensive for basically some magnets encased in a plastic shell.... But you will easily get your moneys worth out of it just based on all the time you will save scraping your glass. It works very well! This is a good product. Cheers, Todd ... show more

I've always appreciated this brand and after several reviews of others, I decided to keep buying flipper. I'm using on 1/2" thick glass and it works so flippin well! I'm glad I paid a little extra for the stronger/bigger magnet. It does take a little muscle to do the soft sweeps, but it gets the job done. I mainly bought for it's ability to scrape the encrusting algae. It works SO well. It surpassed my expectations. No more wet hands/arms in tank! ... show more

    • Ideal for 10 Gallon Tank, Makes my tank look AMAZING!!!

I have a 10 gallon AIO and got this guy to clean the algee build up on the sides of the aquarium and it works perfectly. It gets the really tiny harder spots with the blade and everything else with the scrubber. This is like the perfect size for a 10 gallon tank and super easy to use. I don't leave it in the tank because salt water is just bad for stuff so be smart and just rinse off with water and take out after use. Replacement blades are kinda expensive but whatever, tank maintenance costs money, keeping a reef tank is a hobby that has its expenses, there really not like that expensive. This little guy works extremly well super happy with it. My tank is very clean and looks amazing and the fish are happy, everyone is impressed with how the tank looks after using this. ... show more

I had a normal magnetic algae cleaner/scraper for over a decade. I had to put so much muscle into it and it still barely removed algae. This one is magic, only requires 1 or 2 passovers and the algae is gone. Worth every penny.

Great cleaner, but..... this magnet is super strong. I take every precaution i can to ensure that it doesn't scratch my tank. After the first use it looked like there was no glass in between me and my fish. It was stunning. But as the algae started to return it first targeted the defects in the glass (cavitation from scratches) it was then that I could see the micro scratches everywhere. Every time i went to clean it again the algae would return and show additional lines on the tank. After several uses the tank is pretty hacked apart. Now, this is still a 4 star product for me for several reasons. 1 - The tank was bought used for cheap with some damage already in it. 2 - Every time i clean it thoroughly you can not see the scratches, only when algae fills them in. So they are not that deep. 3 - THIS THING CLEANS, it is absolutely stunning how well it cleans and the ease of use. What used to give me tennis elbow every night and take me 30 minutes can be done in 2 minutes with ease. All the tough algae I couldn't get off with a regular scrubber just "lawn mowed" right off with the blade side. 4 - Slim design helped get to areas that I could never get to before. In summary I like this product for my tank. It does what I need it to and does it well. I can live with the downside therein. ALSO note, my tank is 1/4 in. glass which is the minimum for this mag cleaner. I feel the magnet may be just slightly over powered for that size. ... show more
