  • Kind of accurate
Size: 0-32% Brix
This is ok for a digital change but it is only kind of accurate. The readings will be widely different from each other each reading of the sample. Even when calibrating this is nearly 4+ gravity points off. Not reliable enough to get exact readings but good to see progress of the brew day.

  • most accurate
Size: 0-32% Brix
The media could not be loaded. Since this refractometer is so inexpensive, I was concerned that it wouldn't be very accurate, but I'm glad to report that I was mistaken. It is incredibly accurate, portable, and simple to use. The design of the app was also excellent. Which was unexpected because frequently, add-ons for apps just slap together a subpar program and call it a day. The product and app work well together, and everything runs smoothly. ... show more

  • This particular refractometer is incredibly easy to use and to read
Size: 0-32% Brix
I recently started brewing beer at home and decided to purchase a refractometer to measure the total sugar content of the wort. This particular refractometer is incredibly easy to use and to read. It's both an excellent value and an excellent and indispensable tool. Highly recommended for frequent or small-batch homebrewers. ... show more

  • A great measuring device for true coffee lovers and geeks!
Size: 0-55% Brix
A very handy digital BRIX refractometer to measure TDS for my coffee brews and espresso shots. Super tiny upon opening the box. Also very easy to use and get going. I did have to buy a jug of distill water for calibrating the device, but that wasn’t too difficult. Once the app is downloaded and installed, the wireless connection was made very quickly without any issues. After setting the app to measure coffee, I got readings for my espresso shots pretty much instantly. Not 100% sure on the accuracy of the readings, but the result was right in the middle of the sweet spot which is excellent, and more importantly, my shot did taste very good, so there’s that! I did also intentionally fool the device by over and under extracting my coffee, and yes, the device did pick up those readings accordingly. Quite impressive for something at this price point! Other likes I have is the instant connection to the app even after turning it off. There’s no need to get into settings to mess around with wi-fi or Bluetooth. The unit is waterproof, so running it under the tap is convenient for cleaning off coffee. The display is small and basic but it’s super clear and very easy to read. You do have the app to get into more information and data if needed, but once you know what numbers to look out for, the app isn’t really necessary. Although it is nice to save your readings for reference later, so that’s a plus for sure. Once again, I must comment on the unit size - it is just so small, it’s almost cute! Great for carrying it around if you want to bring your nerd game on the go. Dislikes wise, not too much, but I do wish there’s a better way to place your liquid sample into the optical sensor. The kit does include a small but handy dropper, but my goodness how does one clean that out for the next run without contamination for the new reading?!? I ended up using a small spoon, but I keep dripping coffee to the sides of the device. Gets messing, but I get the job done at the very least. I wish the device is shaped better to allow for liquid sample to be easily placed cleanly. Overall, it is still a decent device to measure TDS on a budget. It is not a professional unit, but it is simple to use and fun to learn about your coffee brewing techniques. It is definitely a more scientific way to understand how to dial in your coffee, but I still rely on my taste bugs at the end of the day! I only use this for fun and for learning. ... show more

  • Effective refractometer; fun toy for espresso tuning.
Size: 0-55% Brix
I primarily bought this refractometer for espresso tuning. While its more common (and useful) at-home use for brewing beer, I got it to try out measuring TDS within espresso shots. With the included app, I found that it was pretty usable - more so than hard-to-use and hard-to-decode professional calibrated tools. And its slim form factor makes it easy to store or even take on-the-go. Running a few samples, I found that it had some amount of variance in between samples of the same liquid. This suggests some amount of error on the measurement. However, when I tested it against some calibrated equipment at a local brewery, we saw that it measured with only a few percentage points of error - quite impressive for a little pocket tool. Ultimately though, this product falls into a tricky range. The mid-range version has excess range for alcohol use, and too little range for honey, etc use. That makes it good for coffee ideally, but measuring coffee with a refractometer is not a super useful indicator, even for professional breweries. It's always a good tool to have to test for consistency and to feel like a scientist, but I haven't noticed any improvement in taste or quality by using this to dial in my pours. ... show more

  • Small, Simple, Fast, Accurate.
Size: 0-55% Brix
I was planning on doing some home brew from a sugar beet crop. That's off in the future yet but had a chance to get this a head of time for it. So I have not had experience in actual intended use, but I can say from my initial look of all included and performance this will do the job just fine. Everything you need is in the box except of course the phone App for download which will give you more data than just on the units digital display. The simplicity and accuracy of this unit is what drew me to it and the simple set up tests I did prove that to be the case. This is the type item you will have for a lifetime and for many type uses. ... show more

  • Works for my mead and wine making!
Size: 0-55% Brix
This is a really cool addition to my homebrew setup. I have used it side-by-side with my old & trusted triple-scale hydrometer and these results have been spot-on. It's small and easy to store and use. The instructions are clear as day. I've gone solo with it (without the hydrometer) on a few meads and it's a clean cut and faster setup. I love it! ... show more
