  • An excellent safe alternative to Apple Watch for kids
Color: Spicy - Moovin
Prepare for your child to send you a boat load of poop emojis, haha. Pros - Very fun fast UI with lots to do and explore, encouraging kids to move in fun ways - Bright clear screen - Games require children to first move and be active before playing or the game is active itself - GPS location works very fast. Somehow even faster than Find My for iPhones (works off WiFi). - Text messages, calls and voice messages are quick and responsive (works off WiFi). - Dedicated ACE parental app works very well on iPhone, with good parental controls - Peace of mind of a “closed” ecosystem. My kids can’t message anyone. Neutral - Data plan is independent of any carrier. - Battery life of meh, but it charges very fast. It’ll get though about a day depending on screen brightness and use. Cons - Fitbits historical reputation for reliability and support is very sub-par with some of their devices. Time will tell. This device is well made and operates smoothly so far. Games - Fitness challenges - Scout the fitness coach - Decorate a house with items purchased by movement/activity - Golf and other mini games As a parent I wanted to be able to keep on touch with my kids as they go to friend’s houses, field trips, etc. I also want them to feel that I’m still accessible when they’re away somewhere. My kids are 10 and 7. I feel age 6-13 is the perfect age range for a device like this. This watch costs a good amount more than a Gizmo or other watches. The cost is similar to an Apple Watch SE. But this Fitbit is a purpose-made device for kids unlike the Apple Watch. The Fitbit encourages movement and play. It’s genuinely fun UI is more appealing to kids than the utilitarian Apple Watch UI. In my opinion the Fitbit is also safer to use, limiting their ability to communicate with anyone except myself, my wife, and their siblings. I sincerely hope Fitbit follows the fun gamification philosophy for adult Fitbits as well. What a fun and exciting device to encourage movement and creative play. We immediately bought a second watch for our second younger child. I will update this review if I have anything new to add. ... show more

  • A Parent's Dream Come True (Almost!)
Color: Spicy - Moovin
As a parent navigating the complexities of raising kids in the digital age, I was on a quest for the perfect balance: keeping my children safe and connected without exposing them to the full-fledged smartphone experience. After exploring comparable options that fell short, this Fitbit emerged as a near-perfect solution, exceeding my expectations in many ways while presenting a few minor challenges. Pros: The ability to know my child's whereabouts at any time is invaluable, providing immense peace of mind, though faster location updates or passive notifications would be helpful (hoping this can be fixed with software updates). Call quality is clear, ensuring effortless conversations with my kids. The messaging feature is a delightful way to stay connected. My kids love expressing themselves with emojis, and I appreciate the instant communication channel. The battery consistently lasts throughout the day, even with active use. The ability to lock down the device during school hours with School Mode gives me peace of mind for a distraction-free learning environment. My kids love tracking their steps and activities, motivating them to move more and embrace a healthy lifestyle. The built-in games provide a safe and enjoyable alternative to smartphones, keeping my kids entertained without the endless distractions. Cons: While the initial setup process might require a few attempts, it remains straightforward. The activity tracking feature is fantastic, but certain activities necessitate removing the watch, which can be a minor inconvenience. The Fitbit app is functional, but a few UI refinements could enhance the user experience and prioritize essential features like messaging and location tracking. My kid managed to chip the glass on the bottom edge, so investing in screen bumpers is a wise decision to prevent accidental damage. Overall: This Fitbit has revolutionized how I connect with and protect my children. It provides the perfect balance of freedom and security, encouraging healthy habits and open communication. While a few minor improvements could elevate it to absolute perfection, this smartwatch is a game-changer for parents seeking a safe and engaging alternative to smartphones. • JUNK!!!
Color: Mild Strange Arcade
Purchased this on Prime sale to use for my daughter that rides the bus. We have found the need to track her while on the bus but also liked the idea of being to track her as needed at other times as well. We also liked that she could call and text us and it would keep her motivated to be active... however none of the needed features actually work. We paid for the annual data subscription so we could see location and add contacts. Location has been very inaccurate, I had the watch in my lap with my phone and per google maps, the watch was equivalent of 3 houses away from my phone, while using WiFi which is supposedly per google more accurate than GPS. So far none of the contacts can even get it to add them, after following instructions, reading support online and contacting support multiple times, no one is connected. You also MUST have gmail account to use this watch and all contacts must have gmail as well to be added, however that feature has yet to work for us. I contacted support to get a refund on the annual subscription that I paid for 2 days ago and have been told that it is non-refundable. Even though none of the features are working that need the data plan and we are returning this watch. So now I have a year subscription for something that I won't even own anymore due to junk technology. ... show more
