  • best brace for thumb arthritis
Style: Right Hand
Several months ago I was diagnosed with CMC and STT arthritis of both thumbs. After a steroid shot in my left thumb I went through probably about 10 hand braces, no exaggeration. Some were acceptable and gave a degree of relief, but none of them fit nearly as comfortably as this one. When I'm wearing it I sometimes forget it's on. Some of the others got pretty messy and ragged after a short period of time, too easily stained and with velcro losing its strength, material frayed, and so on, but when it comes to strength and structure this brace is quite durable by comparison. Partly because of the great reviews I ordered one of these for my right hand after my pain got worse in that thumb. I agree with these reviewers, to my surprise. This is the only brace that has held my thumb in a way that stabilizes yet provides flexibility. The two velcro straps make for an adjustable support and are still going strong. I also really like how it has the capability to stabilize the upper part of my thumb. I have recurring pain not only at the bottom but also near the tip of my thumbs and for some reason it's very hard to find thumb braces that reach high enough. When I need my thumbs to be held still with no or minimal movement at the top this is the best brace for that and I can still perform everyday activities. Another reason why I think it fits so well is because of the embedded metal thing that helps the brace mold to my hand.. The velcro wrist straps don't cause as much itchiness as some others have and my hand doesn't get hot. The only thing I don't like is how dog hair clings to it like crazy! I've got 3 dogs and my pittie's fur got all over it and it's not the prettiest sight, but I've gone over it with a lint remover a couple times and it looks like that'll do the trick. I'd rather have pain relief than just a cute brace. I don't post reviews super often but those of us who have to live with chronic pain need all the help we can get and this is one way to do that. Including pics that show what I mean about how it supports my thumb ... show more

  • Actually works for my "trigger" thumb
Style: Right Hand
Here are the most important things I wish I knew before buying. 1) 1st things first, When this arrives you will need to bend the metal piece (inside the splint) to fit your hand. It was doable, but I'd recommend having someone help you as it was a litte hard to do by myself. 2) Plan on wearing it all the time. (except for the obvious times...) Once I fit it to my hand and adjusted the straps, I found that I didn't want to take it off. Wait....That doesn't mean that its incredibly comfortable, I just find that when I take it off I want to move my thumb. Even after 2 weeks of wearing it, my thumb still hurts to bend. So I leave it on except to wash it or clean my hands. 3) Buy 2 - It's nice to have one to put on while hand washing the other. This isn't necesary I'm just finding that I wish I had 2. Like any split, you get sweaty and just want it off to air out your skin. Here is my story (if you want to know.) andd why its working so well for me. While it was painful I couldn't bring myself to go to the ER for it or make an appointment with my Doctor. When (what I know believe is trigger finger) got bad, I consulted Dr. "Google" . I found a great youtube video with stretches that really help. The PT suggested immobilizing the thumb for 4-6 weeks. I work on the computer this seemed like an impossible task and still work. Since it didn't get better, It actually got worse, I looked into splits and continued the stretches. I tried this as well as some other similar thumb/wrist splints. This fits me and is the only split (tried 3) that works for me. I've worn it for 2 weeks now. I quickly learned to wear it 24/7 as I immediately bend my thumb as soon as I take it off. OUCH!!!!!!!! That hurts and it gets stuck in the bent position. It's not fun unbending it.... I finally have an appointment tomorrow and suspect I'll need surgery and will be wearing this until then. I can still type and use my mouse so long as I have this on. I am very thankful I stumbled upon this. I would suggest 2 if you are wearing this long term. I hand washed mine with oxi clean and then put it in the dryiner with the next load of clothes to be dried. I would have liked to have a back up while it was drying. ... show more

  • PROVIDE GREAT PAIN RELIEF AND STABILITY
Style: Right Hand
I purchased this brace for my right hand (dominant hand) because I was having pain in my thumb that went all the way to my wrist. I don't know what was causing the pain...arthritis? Carpal Tunnel? But every basic everyday task I did whether it was opening a jar, using a pair of scissors, squeezing a bottle or using a screwdriver caused me so much pain that I knew I needed some kind of support to provide stability throughout my day. That's when I purchased this amazing brace. It came really fast in perfect condition and was exactly as described. First off, it's comfortable, easy to put on and take off, easy to clean and lightweight. It gave me the support and stability I needed while I went about my daily activities and kept me from straining the areas that were causing me pain. I can finally say that after a couple weeks of wearing the brace as much as possible while doing my normal activities that my symptoms have improved. I continue to wear it if I'm doing an activity that's more taxing on my thumb and wrist but no longer need it all day for every basic task I perform. I will keep it close by though so that I have it if I need to start wearing it again. Highly recommend this brace if you have any pain in your thumb/wrist area and need extra support and stability. I would definitely purchase other braces for different body parts from this brand and seller in the future. ... show more
