  • How to use the volume control - Clearing up misinformation
Style: Black Switches
I want to clear up some misconceptions and misinformation about the volume control and multimedia features. The volume control and multimedia buttons all work perfectly and I love this keyboard. tldr: hold the knob to turn on the volume control. When the multicolored light inside the volume control knob is on it is in 'lighting mode'. When the multicolored light inside the volume control knob is off it is in 'multimedia mode'. To switch between the two hold the knob down for 5 seconds (note that you may have to press a bit firmer than you expect for this to work. I think the button beneath the knob is deceptive: it seems to click into place before it has actually activated. Right now I can click it down for 10s and nothing happens, but if I just press and hold it a bit firmer or with a bit more weight it works. In multimedia mode the three buttons and the volume control work exactly like they should. Press M1 for previous track, M2 for pause/play, M3 for next track, turn the knob for volume up/down, and Press the knob down to mute/unmute (remember to press firmer than you expect and past the click). The knob is designed very nice so you can slide your hand forward along the right side of the keyboard to roll the volume up and down quickly and with smooth motion. you don't have to get your pinchy claw fingers involved if you don't want to ;). It has nice satisfying detents in the roll-click if you know what I mean. You can tell that the knob button is a little deceptive in multimedia mode because you can click it and it makes an audible sound but doesn't mute/unmute, but if you press firmer it clicks and makes the same sound but also mutes/unmutes and you can see your computer react (or not). I actually thought it didn't have a click to mute feature for a few minutes, but it definitely does. In lighting mode clicking the knob (firmly) toggles between the 19 different lighting settings that they have pre-programmed. Rolling the knob lowers the backlight or brightens it. Then in lighting mode there is a user defined backlight setting. For example if you are playing a game where WASD move, G fires a grenade, 5 activates your plasma cannon and I brings up your inventory, then you can highlight just those keys to help you focus on the game and remember what to press. To do this activate record mode by pressing M1 and then press and hold M1. The knob indicator will flash and the lights of the keys will turn off. Press the keys that you want to highlight in this case 'wasdg5' and then press M1 again and it will be saved. All of this works the same with the M2 and M3 keys and once programmed you can easily switch between your custom settings for 3 different games by pressing one of those keys in lighting mode. This could be useful for application software to remember your favorite shortcuts or even for a virtual music keyboard to remember which notes fit in a particular scale. When you want to go back to one of the pre-programmed wavey-lighty settings press the knob a few times (firmly) to cycle through the options and find one that you like. In either mode the fn+Fkeys work as these multimedia controls: F5 prev F6 next F7 PlayPause F8 Stop F9 Mute/Unmute F10 Volume+ F11 Volume- (for all of those you have to hold down the Fn key as well). Fn+Win disables or enables the Windows key (so if you ever find that your windows key isn't working press this) this is also called Win-Lock mode and there is an led indicator of this to the right of the arrow keys (num lock, caps lock, win lock). One thing I am not sure of: Fn+PrtSc may possibly switch to a '6 keys anti-conflicting' mode. There is a claim of that for a sister keyboard to this one but I have a suspicion that this doesn't apply. Nevertheless if you have problems gaming (WASD and shift and jump and weapons) all of a sudden that probably got bumped so press Fn+PrtSc. It seems to register 6 simultaneous keypresses at least with the letter keys. For my needs I intend to keep it in multimedia mode most of the time, and switch to lighting mode when I am in the mood for some variety or when I would like to impress the ladies. I love this keyboard and it breaks my heart a little bit to see so many misinformed reviews and amazon questions. Theres even a question "can anyone provide a clear answer on how to control the volume with the knob" and the accepted answer was "the knob doers not control volume" and thats just so sad because that knob absolutely does control the volume. I just did it. I just did it again. The correct answer to that question is "hold down the knob for 3s" but I don't blame the reviewers or the answerers because they didn't know. These were tricky things to figure out and I was almost disheartened and considering sending it back before I figured out how it all works. If the Fiodio company wants to step up their game they can document all of this very clearly in the manual (the manual as it is right now is near pathetic). I got the black switches and I love this keyboard and am looking forward to the next thousands of hours with it gaming and programming. ... show more

  • Sticky keys
Style: Black Switches
This keyboard has worked for about a year but for some reason now it thinks the left ctrl key gets pressed randomly. I rarely ever use that key but now it will switch in and out of thinking the ctrl key is being pressed. I usually have to press ctrl and the function key on my laptop to deactivate it or just unplug the keyboard. It's extremely frustrating when you're typing and then the ctrl key will activate and then all other keys become hot keys and I have a million windows pop up in my computer. Sometimes it won't deactivate the ctrl key and I just have to unplug the keyboard and type on my laptop to finish what I was doing. Ive checked my computer settings for the sticky key feature, swaped the key caps and cleaned yhe keyboard abd nothing has fixed it. Besides that it is kind of difficult to get used to typing on. I'll be replacing it now after a year of use and throwing it in the trash. ... show more

  • First impressions: Decent at the price-point
Style: Black Switches
At $50, this is a budget board, and through this review some of the observations (like the use of plastics) are generally the result of the price-point and not a problem with the board itself. Also: This just arrived, so I don't have long, or even medium-term feedback. This might fall apart in a month or last for decades, and quirks may appear or I may adapt. Though intended to resemble aluminum and chrome, the keyboard and basically all the parts on it are plastic. That said: the plastics look and feel nice. The keyboard is rigid and nicely textured. The keyboard also has some heft to it (in a good way). Whether this is incidental or the result of deliberately adding weight, I do not know. The key travel is... unsatisfying. the keys tend to wobble a bit on the way down and there's no clear tactile moment-of-contact when pressing down. There's clacking, but it's from the keys striking the bottom rather than a switch or spring (so honestly, I'd have preferred a more muffled sound). The hand rest doesn't really match the keyboard well, and its magnetic mounting is set such that it tends to rise up when your hand isn't on it (lifts off the table a few mm where it touches the keyboard). The LED lighting is... alright. At least in the daytime. Though the colors appear fixed and the patterns are sometimes making me ask "why". The biggest minus, however, is simply typing. The key size/shape make it relatively easy to affect multiple keys when typing. When pressing one key, especially one near the top, I can feel the keys around it and need to actively think to avoid a multi-key press. If my opinion evolves: I'll add more. All in all, not a bad KB if gotten at the right price; but the key shape will not be for everyone. Also, and perhaps a quibble at this price but... the volume knob is not quite centered on its axis. ... show more

  • Beautiful Keyboard
Style: Black Switches
The media could not be loaded. This keyboard looks amazing! The lighting colors are set to the keys and don't change but it has many different patterns that it will light up in. It has a brightness control that can make they keyboard very bright or dim. The palm rest makes this keyboard very comfortable. my only complaint is how loud the keys click. Overall this is a very good keyboard. ... show more
