Description

An instant New York Times bestsellerFrom the globally-recognized personal finance educator and social media star behind Her First $100K, an inclusive guide to all things money—from managing debt to investing and voting with your dollarsTori Dunlap was always good with money. As a kid, she watched her prudent parents balance their checkbook every month and learned to save for musical tickets by gathering pennies in an Altoids tin. But she quickly discovered that her experience with money was pretty unusual, especially among her female friends. It wasn’t our fault. Investigating this financial literacy and wealth gap, Tori found that girls are significantly less likely to receive a holistic financial education; we’re taught to restrain our spending, while boys are taught about investing and rewarded for pursuing wealth. In adulthood, women are hounded by the unfounded stereotype of the frivolous spenders whose lattes are to blame for the wealth gap. And when something like, say, a global pandemic happens, we’re the first to have jobs cut and the last to re-enter the workforce. It's no wonder money is a source of anxiety and a barrier to equality for so many of us.But what if money didn't mean restriction, and instead, choice? The ability to luxuriously travel, quit toxic jobs, donate to important organizations, retire early? The freedom to live the life you want, and change the world while you do it?Tori founded Her First $100K to teach women to overcome the unique obstacles standing in the way of their financial freedom. In Financial Feminist, she distills the principles of her shame- and judgment-free approach to paying off debt, figuring out your value categories to spend mindfully, saving money without monk-like deprivation, and investing in order to spend your retirement tanning in Tulum. You will learn:- Exercises to help you understand your current relationship with money, figure out what you want to change, and how to make that happen- How to decide on your investment goal, and discover the three steps to meeting it- Learn how to source the data you need to negotiate the money you deserveFeaturing journaling prompts, deep-dives into the invisible aspects of the financial landscape, and interviews with experts on everything money—from predatory credit card companies to the racial wealth gap and voting with your dollars—Financial Feminist is the ultimate guide to making your money work harder for you (rather than the other way around.) • To Tackle financial Anxiety, This is Your Book
This book will really easy a lot of people's mind. Not only is it an easy read, but it explains complex finance terms in the simplest possible way. I would call this book "dummy proof" which to be honest is what a lot of us need to get that motivation to master our finances. Thanks for the simplicity this book brought to a complex subject. ... show more

  • Truly a breakthrough book sparing no punches, Must read for women tired of financial BS
This book has truly changed my life. I’ve read many financial books written by men, but only a handful by women. Growing up in a challenging family dynamic with a single mom, I vividly remember sitting at the kitchen table, watching her struggle to pay bills with money we never seemed to have. That memory has woven itself into every aspect of my life, not just finances. This book helped me understand that pattern and, instead of plowing ahead and repeating mistakes, I can now move forward with awareness. I’ve also shed the guilt around spending money on essentials that simply come with being a woman—tampons, razors, makeup, lotion—all the things men rarely think about. She revealed the cost expectations placed on women, especially in professional settings, in a way that felt like a weight lifted. She is incredible. I’m now working toward financial independence with open eyes and a lighter heart. Thank you. ... show more

  • Clear and thoughtful
One thing I particularly appreciated after reading this was the realization that I was doing better than I thought. As I was reading this book it occurred to me that I am so insecure about my own finances that I wasn't even recognizing how OK I was doing. She talks about our relationship to money in such a thoughtful way and it really helped me wrap my brain around that. I also took away some great tips. ... show more

  • A must-have for young (and older!) women
I’m in my early forties, and never had a solid financial education growing up. As a result I’ve had a lot of anxiety around spending, and confusion around saving for retirement. I originally picked up this book to help me get my debt under control and start saving in earnest, but surprisingly the most helpful chapter was about negotiating salary and benefits. Tori’s advice helped me land an incredible six-figure salary and awesome benefits! It’s a game changer for me and now I can really see a path to meeting my money goals. I’ve since bought copies of this book for my grown daughters, and am recommending to everyone I know. ... show more

  • Every girl's dream book
I have listened to Tori's podcast for about two years now and finally pulled the trigger on getting her book. I have major depression centered around my spending habits. This book gives me peace of mind and also positive criticism and structure that I can read without feeling attacked! HAHA! I cannot wait to finish the book, but she is consciously sitting in the back of my mind during every money move now. ... show more

  • This is a Absolute MUST NEED book for woman of any age on how to work with their finances.
I will say that I am learning so much from this book. Tori is a millionaire who tells us how she got where she is and how she did it. She really goes into detail about the misconceptions and misinformation drilled into women by the patriarchal society. By sharing the misinfo that is fed to most women from birth, she explains how to educate ourselves to have a healthier financial life. It is called Financial Feminist for a reason and I am so very grateful to her for her long hours of research to bring this book to life. I have read other comments that states that Tori is not qualified to have written a book such as this. I am calling bullshit on that!! I am so very grateful for her book and have learned so much about what I do not know and questions I had no idea to ask. In the past, I have listened to "Financial Gurus" who literally would hit the "shame" button for a person's ingorance. Seriously! And, what is so much worse about these "gurus" is that these people came to them for education on their finances and left feeling humiliated. (From my perspective) These other "gurus" have given advice that is not practical for actual living. It makes me wonder if those "gurus" actually follow their own advice or have lived at least one year on a income that reflects what they are telling others in that income bracket to do. It really seems that the "gurus" have "ostriched" themselves in their tax bracket and are unable to help those who are not in the same income status. Tori was there and earned her way to where she is and STILL has the ability to connect with those working their way up and out of debt. I am really thrilled to actually have this knowledge to better my life and other women in my surroundings by sharing this book with them. ... show more
