Description

The sun is setting upon the land of Valisthea. For centuries, people have flocked to her Mothercrystals to partake of their blessing—the abundant aether that fuels the magicks they rely upon in their everyday lives. But as the aether begins to fade and the lifeless deadlands spread ever further, so too does the struggle over the final flickers of the Mothers' light grow ever more fierce. Bloody battle rages across the realm, rival nations sending their ultimate weapons against each other: the Dominants. There are few in Valisthea whose lives have not been touched by Men and women within whom sleep the world-shattering power of an Eikon. this war for the crystals' blessing, and Clive Rosfield, firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria, is no exception. • Everything about it is AMAZING! Currently at 70 hours. (No spoilers)
Let's start off with the only negative experience so far, the performance. Playing in "FPS mode" hasn't been that smooth, the game looks too blurry when moving the camera around (likely due to upscaling + motion blur) and the FPS drop quite a bit in the open world, this makes me wish the game was available on PC and I will certainly buy it again when it is. (my monitor is 1440p) QUICK UPDATE - the devs listened to feedback and added a motion blur slider (and even new controller layouts)! I can confirm that lowering motion blur to 2 or less massively improves the experience. As for EVERYTHING ELSE, the game is amazing!!! Gameplay: The combat feels incredibly smooth, so many different abilities and combos to try which allow for different styles of gameplay. From more passive, ranged, defensive and aggressive. The game starts slow but as you get more Eikons, you unlock many more abilities. Mixing magic with eikonic abilities, doing some air combat and rushing towards enemies feels great! Story (no spoilers): It's an incredible adventure and the experiences will make you feel very attached to the characters. The world and lore are great to explore, you will visit so many different areas. It will be quite the rollercoaster of emotions. There are a lot of friendly features to remind you during cutscenes about the lore of the topics discussed or even the characters, you hold the touchpad and it will show you different cards about everything to keep you always informed especially if you are somewhat forgetful. Some side quests are little more tedious but most of them tell you a story about characters you meet through the main quest and they do a lot of world building so I highly recommend doing them all. Some of them can even be very emotional. Music, graphics and art style: This game has some of the most epic battles I have seen. Fighting Eikons feels like you are truly doing something incredible, like fighting a god. The combination of what you are doing, cinematics, music and sound effects make for some truly epic moments and gives you quite the adrenaline rush. The music is beautiful and emotional and helps you get more immersed. Graphically, the game is beautiful, especially in areas with a lot of vegetation. And as for the effects, I know some may not like them as much but I love the many effects on each encounter - although they can sometimes be a little distracting. I love how they incorporated the PS5 controller vibration feature into transmitting the feeling of what's occurring in game. I only bought a PS5 for this so it was my first time experiencing it but I must say it was truly worth every penny only for this game alone. This game is a MUST for every true Final Fantasy fan. Truly a masterpiece. I know some are disappointed with the lack of features such as gear, managing your party and crafting like old FF games; however, don't let that discourage you, while they are certainly nice features to have, the game feels amazing and complete as it is currently. Also! Something to note especially for recent games, the game does not feel buggy at all. In fact, I don't think I encountered any bugs even after finishing the game! ... show more

  • Dune meets Game of Thrones meets...Dragonball Z!?
Just to give you a little background.. I was around 13 years old when FF7 came out and grew up playing the Sega Master System/Mega Drive (Genesis) so naturally the first FF1-6 went by unnoticed to me. I am around 40-50 hours in FF16 so figured now was as good as any to write my review for this game. 5 out of 5 is a little generous but 4 out of 5 seems too low so if I could give it 4.5 out of 5 I would. I'll try and keep the spoilers to a minimum so here goes. I probably should start by saying this game is definitely for mature audiences. Yes, there is a Moogle and fields of Chocobos which are as cute as always. But if you were planning on buying this game for minors I should probably warn you there is a lot of swearing, and a fair amount of blood and gore with some mild nudity and other adult themes. So be warned! This is definitely the most mature FF game I have come across but it definitely suited the vibe and was a far cry from Barret's "!@?!}#" yelling. This game is meant for a mature/adult audience. Story/game play wise this reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy X. It's very linear and the summons/eikons play a major part to the story which is the big selling point to this game. If you are expecting some open world experience I have a feeling you are going to be a little disappointed. I hear this game didn't sell very well in Japan because they didn't warm to the Game of Thrones non-emo main hero vibe. That didn't bother me at all. It's difficult to escape Game of Thrones. I read the book, didn't like it. Never seen the tv series but it's basically a bunch of armies at war and you're caught in the middle of it. There are countless ways to recap via reading or watching key elements of the goings on. Got to be honest, I was very lost at the start but I got the gist of what my guy was doing which was fine. I feel the the game is mostly...70-75 story, 25-30 % action. There's a fair chunk of lore and dialogue to get through. Unlike FFX, gone are the turn based battles. The battles can be split into basic battles against small minions to hack n slash through, medium enemies with a stagger bar that take a little while to get through and boss fights. The boss fights can have several stages and offer a little variety and are perhaps the most enjoyable aspect to the game. The graphics are simply stunning. There is an ability tree that gradually expands and offers a little some variety as to how you handle the battles. The two most recent games I played were Assassin Creed Origins and the new Harry Potter game this is somewhere in between. It's a big step up from Harry Potter but it's perhaps not as extensive as AC Origins. Personally I was ok with it. So do you buy this game or not? That's the million dollar question. The linear direction the game takes you, will likely frustrate some people and the adult content will exclude some people. The Game of Throne story will be off-putting for some and the FF purists that miss turn-based fights might not enjoy the modern fighting. I didn't play this with any particular expectations but I have enjoyed sinking my spare time in this game. A good edition to the series. Not going to lie, I do miss the turn-based games but there is a realism to new this new approach I am gradually warming to. If you have waited this long, you might as well wait for a sale but is well worth picking up. *spoilers* P.s The DBZ reference was in regards to a boss battle. Goku defeating Piccolo in the original Dragonball definitely influenced one of the bosses getting killed. Also the transformations into Ifrit definitely felt going Super Saiyan. ... show more

  • Amazing Final Fantasy game. One of my favorites

  • Incredible Story
Final Fantasy XVI gets hate for its combat and linear gameplay, but it tells an incredible story with and incredible cast and setting. From the very beginning, you are sucked into a conflict that you want to see through to the very end. The combat is fast, fluid, and, flashy. Honestly combat is crazy fun like DMC and not every FF game needs to be turn based. Biggest complaint with this one is the side quests. Its a lot of running back and forth talking to people. ... show more

  • Great game!
Took me over a year to start playing, and I still haven't finished (thanks Dragon's Dogma), but the game is amazing so far. The story is pretty great, the world is intriguing, the graphics are gorgeous, and the fight scenes... otherworldly. I knew I'd love it, I do love it, and I can't wait to finish the game. ... show more

  • I really liked it but…
I really enjoyed the game and the story, a mature dark fantasy obviously influenced by other current fantasy favorites. Beautiful graphics and over the top battle sequences that got a little too busy at times making it hard to keep track of things on screen. Everything else was a bit drab from the world (which I understand is part of the plot) to the characters. Costume and weapon design were more understated. And it seemed to be missing that touch of quirkiness. Steelbook is also really nice. And the cloth map is a nice extra. ... show more

  • Another FF
I’m playing FF since FF I, I don’t need another reason to play it, but this one looks like GOT. 👍🏽
