  • I wish I would have bought 2 more when they were on sale....
Size: 5.8 Gallon Style: Turbo 1
I bought this because it was on a really good sale. I wish I would have bought two more. I'm super impressed with this thing. It's a great size for an individual tool dust collector. It's pretty quiet and the suction and airflow is super impressive. Although it's not HEPA like my other WAY more expensive dust extractors, it has the same suction and airflow. ... show more

  • Liking this vacuum!
Size: 9.3 Gallon Capacity Style: Turbo 2 X
Lost my Bosch of similar size to a jobsite burglary, and after much research, replaced it with this. While it has slightly lower ratings for such things as suction power and noise level, it is not noticeable on the job, at all. It actually seem like a nice upgrade from the more expensive Bosch, as well. I like the tall handle and accessory storage, the hose and core straps work perfectly, and I'm so glad I got the model without the self-cleaning function. On the Bosch, it was like an irritatingly loud thumping every 60 seconds. It had a shut off button, but when using auto on with my shop tools it was of no use. Got really sick of that. Other things nicer on this Fein are the quality of the cord, hose, and attachments. I'll eventually upgrade to a better quality anti-static hose, but for now I'm very happy with the one it came with. I wish they would offer a Permanent Fleece Filter Bag for this model, ( had to return the one I ordered ), as it's a great way to keep the pleated filter clean and fresh. I've found paper bags to be a waste of money, ( at least with the Bosch ), as they'd bust a seam long before filling and trash the filter every time. The fleece bags that Fein offers have no zipper, so they are not cost efficient for chip collection. My work around is City Floor Supply Edger Bag with top zipper & Elastic Cuff. With a slight modification to the inflow assembly, it can be installed and removed for emptying. I'll be using a cyclone separator for my shop tools, but this keeps the pleated filter clean for a long time. Oh, and I only use the expensive HEPA filter if I'm dealing with toxic materials on a jobsite. No sense replacing that one. ... show more

  • Powerful but quiet shop vac
Size: 5.8 Gallon Style: Turbo 1
I purchased the Fein Turbo 1 after researching quiet shop vacs and shop dust collection systems online. It was one of the few that actually gave a decibel rating. My old shop vac ran at 97 decibels, which required ear protection. The Fein is rated at 67 decibels. My phone-based app reads it at 74 decibels, but that's still much better than 97! I don't even feel the need to wear ear protection with it. I find this smaller Fein shop vac to be every bit as powerful as my old, much larger shop vac. The supplied 1 1/4" vacuum hose chokes it down and makes it a bit quieter, but, to my surprise, I could attach a 2 1/4" hose end to it without an adapter. The inlet is designed to accept the Fein twist-lock fitting, but the larger hose fittings will friction fit just fine. I'm surprised Fein doesn't advertise that fact. Maybe it's because they have a pricey set of accessories they want to sell. If you are hoping to use this unit for liquid pick-up, it will only be efficient for very small spills. When the liquid reaches the shut-off contacts, you will have less than 2 gallons in the tank - far less than the 3.4 gallons advertised. The Turbo 1 uses a fleece bag to catch the vast majority of dust, etc., but it also has an automotive-type pleated paper filter above the bag. The bags are a little pricey but they are much cheaper than paper filters. I use my Turbo 1 with an Oneida Dust Deputy cyclone unit in my basement wood shop. The Dust Deputy catches 99% of the sawdust and the fleece bag catches the rest. Very little dust ever makes it to the paper filter. The Turbo 1 is compact and has an integrated bin on top to hold small accessories or tools. It has worked out great for my application. Update! I have used this Fein shop vac for over a year now, and it has held up very well. Using it in conjunction with my Oneida Dust Deputy, I have collected several 5-gallon buckets of sawdust in that time. The fleece bag eventually collects enough very fine dust that performance is affected, especially if you use it with a palm sander. The bag will last a very long time if you're only collecting larger sawdust from saws. The paper filter is still the original, and still looks pristine. I love the accessory electrical outlet feature. I can plug in any tool requiring 6 amps or less. When I start the tool, the vac comes on automatically. It stops 15 seconds after I turn the tool off. ... show more

  • Nice but could use improvement
Size: 5.8 Gallon Style: Turbo 1 Set
The good: Suction is very good. Quieter than most vacuums of the type. The extra long cord and the extra long suction hose is helpful and means you can vacuum much more area without having to move and re-plug in the vac. Bag holds a lot of debris before it needs to be replaced. Quality product construction so should last a long time. The Bad: This vacuum is heavier than similar vacuums I've owned. Obviously pricey. Kind of awkward to move as its is wider than the competition but that being said its also more stable. Changing from one attachment to another is much more difficult than necessary as those tiny buttons are difficult to press in and hold for removal of an attachment. And its difficult to change at the headstock for floor wand to hand wand and back again. It really doesn't hold all the attachments on the unit in spite of the claims and if you try its even more awkward to move around with everything sticking up in the air. The number one complaint I have is the brush attachment. Probably the dumbest design I've ever seen . The bristles on the brush are way too short so getting into corner crevices almost impossible. It rotates but don't find that useful. So my solution was to use the old brushes from my last vacuum which has longer bristles, but of course, the width of this vacuum's hose is not the same as my old one. My solution was to buy a adaptor (which is available from Amazon). Used one that is 35mm (1 and 3/8) by 32mm (1 and 1/4) to make conversion. Your size may be different but this is common size of most vacuums. ... show more
