I picked this unit for it's large size and the mix of wood/metal and it did not disappoint. Now admittedly the assembly was involved and took awhile, but it was very nicely laid out and easy to follow. And the final product is great looking and far more heavy duty than we actually need for our purposes. This fit perfectly under my wall mounted TV. I use it to store lots of books and it doesn’t bend or bow under the weight. It’s sturdy and doesn’t wobble. I bought this bookshelf for my craft room. My husband and I put this together in about half an hour. The directions are clear, and every piece is marked with a little sticker, so you know what you're working with. The tiny pieces (dowels, screws, etc.) are individually packaged in a long strip, and labeled, so you are sure to know what you need for each step. They even include a packet of extra parts, in case you misplace any. The bookcase itself is heavy-duty and looks very nice for the price point. I wanted a rustic, folk-art look, and ordered the darker wood color. I have it just about full of books, and it still feels very sturdy. We didn't have any trouble with missing pieces, damage to the wood or metal parts, scratches or dents, mis-aligned holes, or mistakes in the milling. This is a heavy piece of furniture, and so the package is heavy. If you're not too muscular, you may need help getting it maneuvered around. ... show more

This bookshelf exceeded my expectations! Solid & sturdy, well-made, great looking and hands-down the easiest furniture assembly EVER! I was looking for a credenza-ish bookshelf to take the place of a little-used desk + bookcase from another room in the house. Needed it to hold a printer & books, not stick out into the room too far, and look nice - and this does all 3! The packaging was great; the bookshelf was well protected & in perfect condition. The parts were pre-sorted and labeled which I appreciated and all the tools needed for assembly were included (a Phillips head screwdriver, a flat head screwdriver and an Allen wrench). The instructions were so easy to follow - both the written instructions and the pictures! The best tip - and it's printed on pretty much every page of the instructions - is not to tighten things 100% until the whole bookcase is put together which helps ensure things line up easily throughout the assembly. And where you do need to tighten it 100% and not wait 'til the end, it CLEARLY says so in the specific instruction step. The instructions pointed out important details like making sure pieces were facing the correct way, giving you concrete identifiers to make sure you had it right (for example: "make sure the side facing up has 13 holes" - and one side clearly had 13 while the other side did not). From unpacking to completion it only took about an hour and 15min and my frustration level was ZERO. I even told my partner I was actually ENJOYING putting it together! The rustic look is great, the metal ends are attractive and there's a 3rd hidden, adjustable height leg under the center of the bookshelf that adds stability/support in the middle. Why is everything veneered with paper? I would be totally happy with this >$200 shelf if the part number sticker didn't peel off some of the paper wood veneer. Ugh. Otherwise, it is sturdy and it looks fine when it is all together. It fits the room and works for my needs, so I am happy, but why is stuff made so cheap now? ... show more
