I went kayak fishing on a small lake on a cold day and it was very windy with gust up to 35 mph. I was enjoying moving around the lake and paddling to different areas and letting the current & wind drift me. Then I decided I wanted to stay in one spot for a while, so I paddle over to where a tree had fallen into the water and clamped this onto the tree limb and tied it onto my little eyelet on the pelican kayak. The more the boat drifts away, and the line pulls the tighter the clamp gets around the tree because of the way the line loops on the opposing side of the clamp jaws, including instructions are very useful for knowing how to thread. The cord. It comes with 15 feet of black nylon cord. That’s fine for this, but I happen to have a large roll of orange reflective cord, the same color as the clamp, that I use for camping trips. I replaced the black cord with this orange reflective cord in case I ever need to see it at night And for higher visibility during the day. You can tie it off at any length up to 15 feet or you can replace the cord like I did with a longer one, but I don’t know why you would need to get that far out and pull yourself back in. I measured off the new cord with the supplied cord and made it 15 feet as well. This clamp has a very sturdy spring and is very strong. If you want to tie and clamp your boat or kayak up to something, it is quite useful. Maybe I can update a photo later but I didn’t think about taking a photo of the clamp on the tree limb while out, but it’s big enough to go to many limb sizes medium to small. In a kayak or small fishing boat, this clamp and cord combo is quite capable. I highly recommend it. ... show more

I love this product only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the 15ft was not long enough once you run the cord though the clamp. I will probably locate a 25ft and run that. In terms of the clamp not a single issue it worked as advertised and was super secure.

It feels good in the hand. In use and performed well. It opens pretty wide and tightens down as more pressure is attached. Much easier the tying ropes to carry handles. I included the installation of a zigzag cleat to simplify tie off.

I always used to use a piece of paracord to tie off to stumps, trunks, and branches to keep me in place on rivers and lakes. I received this as a present this year, and it is a game charger. I like how the harder you pull away from the tool the tighter it grabs. Always looking for simple ways to stabilize while fishing . Works ok for small tributaries . Obviously not for open water...but it's easy to use and does hold onto branches and thick grass so you don't drift while fishing
