  • Keeps water from freezing
This product is wonderful! The thickness is great which helps the warmth stay at a temp that doesn't freeze. We live in East TN with single digits at times during winter and I got this for my goats. It doesn't keep the water warm but it keeps it from freezing which was my goal. I put it at my fence with the cord going through fencing and used a double clip to fence to keep.it from moving and allowing goats to get to wires (curious animals). If you don't have that option you can put the cord in conduit to protect it. Great buy thus far (about 3 months). ... show more

  • Still not frozen solid at -14 degrees!
AMAZING! I bought this bucket when the old plastic 5-gallon bucket shattered in the cold. Shortly after getting this bucket, the temps dropped. The high yesterday was -3 degrees. I didn't expect to still have water in the bucket in that extreme cold. This morning it was -14 degrees. I couldn't believe it. The outside had frozen but there was still plenty of space for my dogs to drink out of it. They can't even be outside long enough to get a drink, but they could potentially drink the water if they so chose. ... show more

  • Holds up well
I have purchased many of these over the years for goats, horses, donkeys, and now dogs. It keeps the water just above freezing, which is a great convenience in. Colorado's winter. The pails are sturdy, and can withstand a fair amount of abuse. Though the heating element is replaceable, I've not had one go out in 5-6 years of steady winter use. I am now careful to use the non-heated versions during non-freezing times of the year because horses and donkeys will carry the pails off into the pasture, playing with them, and chew the plugs in the process. They don't seem to do that in the winter, hence my need to periodically replace them. ... show more

  • Ice over stopper
Below freezing temps and it kept the ice off the water, very durable construction. Would recommend attaching it to kennel to avoid dogs chewing the cord, that's what happened to my last one :)

  • Keeps the Water From Freezing
During the winter, we use this for our black labs. They can NOT chew up the bucket! Meanwhile, they chew everything else! Works great--does NOT freeze! I did attach it to a fence post with barb wire so the dogs do not haul it off!

  • work well
I have been using this for one winter now (the coldest winter in Indy for quite some time). It does keep the water from freezing, but if snow falls really fast it will build up over the water and take a long time to melt. If you bring your dog in at night and turn this bowl off it will freeze through and take a very long time the next day to thaw out, better to just leave it on all the time. ... show more

  • Ice formed even in barely-freezing temps
This failed to do what I needed it to do -- keep water from freezing. In fact, after a relatively mild low of 29°F there was about 1/8 inch-thick ice on the surface. (the photo below shows the ice after I've broken it) Yes, I've checked the outlet for power -- it's fine. If this "heated" bucket can't keep the water ice-free in barely-freezing conditions there's no way it will be suitable if we had a normal winter with lows around 20°F. Maybe the heater power is just too low for such a big surface area...?...maybe I got a defective one...? -- don't know. ... show more

  • only 1 winter
I liked the bucket and it worked good the first winter, did as was quoted, but went to use it this year and it would not work, was very disappointed, so cut the cord off and now I have an expensive water bucket.
