  • Five Year Review & Replacement Part
This incubator is five years old and on its 4th hatch. The hygrometer is still accurate, but the thermometer is not. I’m not worried about it though, because I use govee thermometer/hygrometers for readings and just adjust the incubator as needed. The govees are perfectly sized to sit in the egg turner. They’re accurate out of the box. (I check calibration them before using them). Instructions tell you to use a turkey baster to add water. I use a medicine syringe. The egg turner is understandably noisy, but you get used to it. When it’s full of eggs, it’s not as bad. I also leave my hatch journal binder resting on top of the incubator. The additional weight helps quiet the vibrations. There are hot spots. The very top and bottom rows (the rows closest to the filler holes) seem to lose about a third of their eggs. So I just don’t put my favorites there, knowing there’s a greater risk of blood rings at some point during incubation. Otherwise my hatches are great. This incubator does its job well! Last year, I misplaced one of the filler hole plugs (black). After scouring the internet for replacements and not finding them, I started looking for something that would be comparable… Wine toppers work perfectly! (Lucky four-leaf clovers are a nice touch, lol) These silicone corks actually work better than the original rubber ones, I think. The thicker plug head(?) makes removal/insertion much easier. The shaft part is maybe 1-2mm smaller than the original, but the thick, wide top part compensates for that very well. I’m not sure how long incubators work reliably before needing maintenance or mechanical replacement parts, but we’re on the fourth hatch in five years and haven’t run into any big surprises. The thermometer is off, but that’s easy to work around. ... show more

  • Insufficient insulation and off centered heating element means uneven temperatures
UPDATED: After using the thing a bit more and using a more precise thermometer with an external probe, I discovered that the temperature differential is even worse than I had thought. I had originally tested it without the eggs in. With eggs installed, the temperature differential could be as much as 10 degrees. Yes, ten degrees fahrenheit. Adding a second fan (a 40mm computer fan with an a/c adapter) helped a lot but I then found it could not hold the temperature when the room temperature was under 65 degrees or so. I ended up having to build a foam cover for it. After doing all that it works like it should, but I should have had to do it. Using it out of the box would have resulted in very poor hatch rates. 1 star. Original review: Everything worked as it should; the problem is that this incubator is defectively designed. The heating element is not centered, and the top has a large window which dissipates too much heat. The result is that one side is close to the stated temperature, but the other can be as much as five degrees fahrenheit lower. This is with an ambient room temperature of 65 degrees f. With a lower room temperature, the problem would be worse. The solution is to cover the incubator with something to insulate it, like bubble wrap, packing insulation, foam board, etc. But it's just downright crummy to have to do this to make the thing work correctly. 2 stars. ... show more

  • Hatched emus in it!
The media could not be loaded. Incubator has some hot and cold spots. But worked well for me. I hatched three emu chicks out of it! Would not use for chickens due to the temp variation throughout the incubator. But it definitely served it’s purpose here on our farm.

  • Wonderful incubator for small hatches
Our kids loved to watch our chicks hatch out this past spring! The incubator worked wonderful with over half of the eggs hatching. The temperature/humidity seemed to regulate well. Perfect to hatch out several chicks at home.

  • Incubator
After paying $100+, we did not expect a Styrofoam form. The mechanics did not work well for us. The light would flash at its own volition, the temperature did not hold, the day counter eventually quit working, etc. As things did not hold, we checked the incubator frequently. After doing our nightly check, we found the next morning that the temperature, which had been set at 100.4...and finally decided to hold at that for two days....had risen to 145 degrees with "well done" eggs. I know that you get mechanics that fail every now and again, but we have had problems with the light flashing on and off and not being able to get things to "set" since we purchased this product, a temperature that continues to fluctuate, etc. While we did get ten chicks in the process, it would have been cheaper to buy them from a local farm store than invest $100+, the electricity needed to run the incubator, etc.. Unfortunately, I cannot give just the tip of a star on many of the items which Amazon wants rated. As I said before, not every piece of mechanics will work.. You get a bad batch every now and again, and maybe ours was in that one "bad mechanical" batch. One hopes this is the case! To end this on a positive note, the service department did respond in a timely manner to our emails. ... show more
