  • Not great
The Fagus H Smith Machine is a masterclass in frustration. The cable arms? Supposedly adjustable, but good luck getting them to slide up or down without sticking like they’re glued in place—forget smooth reps, you’ll be wrestling them instead. Keep a can of WD40 handy. The jammer arm arrived with misdrilled holes, looking like someone’s DIY project gone rogue, and it took nearly a month to get a replacement because their customer service moves at a snail’s pace. Living rural, I had to schlep two hours round trip to the freight company to pick it up myself—apparently, I’m too far off the grid for basic delivery. Once I got it set up, the misery kept coming. Loading weights on the cable trees is a clumsy, curse-inducing ordeal, and if you’re running 45-pound plates on the cables, don’t even try storing extras on the bottom pegs unless you enjoy mid-workout chaos. It’s a poorly designed, aggravating mess. Save your money and your sanity—skip this junk. ... show more

  • You’re not going to find a better deal.
I’ll try to keep this brief as possible. First off my account was charged for the full amount of purchase before the item was even shipped which is not the norm when ordering from Amazon. Shipping was by private carrier who called about 30 minutes ahead of arrival. The driver struggled to unload the large box but finally managed to get it off the truck and placed it inside my garage basement for me. Everything was wrapped and placed inside one large wooden crate. I took my time assembling paying close attention to the very small printed instructions and it took about six hours with a helper to hold things while I installed and tightened the bolts. I have had time to evaluate the machine now and here are my thoughts. 1. The machine is sturdy and very well designed and constructed with heavy gauge materials that don’t feel cheap or flimsy. 2. The pulley system is smooth but i will be upgrading the nylon pulleys to aluminum when they start to wear out. I also don’t think the pulleys are a true 1:1 ratio as the same weight on this machine feels much lighter than on commercial gym machines. My nephew weighs 51 lbs yet he was pulling down over 70lbs on the fly pulleys using his body weight. The plate holders use a black plastic sleeve to ride up and down the stainless steel guides. If you don’t load them perfectly even on both sides it can cause the sleeve to chatter going up and down. I ordered some 25mm linear bearings and mounted them to the underside of the plate holders to help with this. (See photo) 3. The smith machine is smooth and once you get used to the vertical movement it makes working out without a spotter much safer. The bar and bearings weigh approx 44 pounds according to my bathroom scales. 4. The main reason I purchased this machine, rather than others on this site, was the adjustable fly pulleys. They can be moved up and down and swung 180 degrees from inside to outside. So if you are doing pec flys you can move them all the way out and get a much wider stretch than with other machines that cost three times more than this one. Absolutely love these pulleys and use them for hundreds of exercises. The heads also swivel so the angles are endless as to what you can do with these things. 5. I wish they would laser etch some numbers on the holes of the front posts to make setting up equipment easier. 6. In my opinion the jammer arms are heavy, bulky, cumbersome, and take too long between exercises to set up. Many of the things you can do with them can be replicated with the pulleys as well. I would have much rather had weight stacks in place of plate holders in lieu of these attachments. Fagus H if you’re reading these comments, please come out with a weight stack retrofit for this machine. Please, Please, Please Bottom line, this is not a perfect machine but with a few adjustments it would be comparable to a machine that costs thousands more. So it is well worth your money. I have seen great gains since using it because my workouts are more intense now that I don’t have to stand around waiting for a machine at the gym. My workouts are shorter even though I am getting more exercises and reps done. The best part is now my wife and daughter are in the basement working out with me instead of sitting on the couch staring at a phone. Get off the fence and get busy! 💪🏻 ... show more

  • Pretty Good
Was a little disappointed with the leg press arms, ended up buying a leg press hack squat machine. I don't use the arms. The functionality of the rest of the rack is really good. You need to balance the weights for smooth operation. The instructions were ok but figuring out what bolts went where was annoying cuz they wasn't labeled and measuring them all out was a pain in the butt. But it is a solid well built home gym. It unfortunately came with a cable that was not right and it took weeks to get the correct cable. I am sure it was just a mistake made by the guy who packed the box. I contacted the seller who answered me in a timely manner and ordered the part from the factory. Lucky for me I don't use the center bottom row cable attachment much. Though I will probably use it now. I had you use a rachet strap to replace the missing cable so I could use both crossovers while I waited for the cable. It was slightly annoying that I didn't get all the parts in the first shippment. I can't blame the seller for that though. All in all Though it's a good machine for the money. ... show more

  • Do not buy
Terrible quality, not sturdy at all. Bars start to bend if you load up more than 300lbs and it does not work with bumper plates. The storage, cables, and smith bar are too close together to use bumper plates. Mose of the cable attachments broke on first use. There was also several missing parts. Safety wise, this is an injury waiting to happen. The safety stops for the Smith machine do not line up and can slip off mid workout. ... show more
