  • Impressive
Size: 1-5/8" Style: Magnetic Drill
I have to say this is my second evolution tool and im very happy with it. The lack of stars is for 2 reasons. First is the storage box came with broken hinges. I had amazon send me another and it was the same thing so i gave up in trying to get that fix. Also all the stickers and labels are peeling off before i even plugged it in for the first time. The tool itself works as needed and if your planning on drilling into anything under 3/8 like me you will need to clamp it down in the front. I would image this will be the same with any mag drill as they need something like 1/2 inch plate to really get that 2800 lbs of force. I have used up to a 2.5 inch bit in it drilling 1/8 tube and it worked great. I of course used drill oil and took my time but it drilled it with no problems. I would not go any bigger as that is already very close to not having much clearance for chips to be cleared. The other draw back is the stroke is only 2 inches or so depending what your doing you can drill the 2 inches and move the whole assembly down so you can use that to get some more depth. Watch some youtube vids and you will be able to see most of what it can do and for the money its a very solid drill. ... show more

  • Evolution Power Tools EVOMAG42 1 5/8" Diameter x 2" Depth Magnetic Drilling System
Size: 1-5/8" Style: Magnetic Drill
What a great tool. Made a special mount to drill mounting holes in my travel trailer frame and saved me oh so much time. I just set it on a piece of steel plate and it is ready to drill. This tool saves me so much drill time with any size drill bit in the suggested range of sizes recommended. I use up to 1 inch drill bit and 1 inch hole saw. I use a squirt bottle filled with 8/20 water soluble oil and 20% water. Great combination. totally recommend this tool. ... show more

  • One of thsoe tools you never knew you needed and cant live without.
Size: 1-5/8" Style: Magnetic Drill
I'm starting a small metal fabrication business and picked up this Mag Drill. I had previously purchased an Evolution Metal Saw and was impressed with it so purchased the EvoMag42. The drill has some restrictions that are common to all mag drills (distance from the bit to the base) that you have to overcome but this thing is great. The magnet is more than powerful enough to hold on to whatever you need (Though I haven't tried it upside down yet.) The bits are easy to change and it comes with a standard drill chuck as well even though the listing states it doesn't. You will get messy if you use the included oil feed system but the cut quality is great. There is also a lot of adjust ability with the depth so you can use the drill on a stand more like a drill press, or to drill on a raised piece of steel. I paired this drill with Evolution Annular Cutters and Bosch Cobalt Bits and it chews through steel like nothing. It is pretty noise so hearing protection is recommended. My only complaint is the locking lever to set your height does slip a little over time if doing multiple holes. This could cause problems if truing to do a repeatable precise depth hole. Otherwise, if just putting holes in steel, you wont have a problem. ... show more

  • Very expensive, but incredibly useful. Glad I got it!
Size: 1-5/8" Style: Magnetic Drill
It took me a long time to decide which of these magnetic drills to buy. I wanted one that was of high quality and rated to do anything that I figured I might try. This was the least expensive of what appeared to me to be of high quality. At well over $500, I was hoping I was right. I've had it for about 3 weeks, and today was my first time using it. Included with the kit is a 1/2" drill chuck that really came in handy. I drilled a 17/64 hole in 1/4 plate steel and it did a beautiful job. I tapped the hole for a 5/16-18 bolt that I used as a ground lug for my welder. I am very happy with the result. ... show more

  • Initial review
Size: 1-5/8" Style: Magnetic Drill
I don't usually review products unless they strike a chord. Initial impression is good. Delivered in a nice storage/transport case. A couple of things struck me right off the bat. One, the adjustment to fix the drill head to the column is left hand thread. I can't seem to figure out why they did this? Just playing around with it I consistently apply the lefty-loosey analogy but its wrong. Overall construction looks good. Probably most people will use this with annular cutters but I expect to use twist bits half the time. The product does come with a 1/2 twist drill chuck. I would like to have a way to clip the chuck wrench to the unit instead of keeping it in my pocket but that isn't the case. Comes with a plastic cutting fluid bottle that seems like it will work find. Not sure I like the way the bottle is attached to the drill but I guess I should drill some holes before I complain. Overall I am impressed with the product and hope that it drills as good as it looks. ... show more

  • Good quality magnetic drill
Size: 1-5/8" Style: Magnetic Drill
Easy to set up and operate. I like that it came with a drill chuck as well, doubles its usefulness over just using annular cutters. All told I have drilled over 300 1/4" holes and nearly 100 3/8" holes in 3/4" plate so far with no problems Haven't used any annular cutters yet but don't think it will have any problems with those either. ... show more

  • Good tool but Chinese made
Size: 1-5/8" Style: Magnetic Drill
I use this in the oilfield on a regular basis. I don't use the coolant feature as it makes a bit of a mess. I shoot wd40 at the cutter in spurts instead. The magnet is strong and you can drill 10 gauge if you go slowly or put backing metal behind it. We will see if the case holds up in -10 weather. Kind of for see the latches breaking in the cold. Wish it was made in the U.K. (home of evolution) not china but it works well and is lightweight compared to the old mag drills I used iron working in the day. ... show more
