My kid needed one for school. It works but makes the worst sound in the world. I thought it was her playing but I tried it out and it was bad. I watched some videos online and it turns out the recorder works like it should, it just sounds awful.

The sound produced is great for an instrument made solely from plastic. Kids love it. The only issue is that the cleaning stick broke right away (kid used it is as a drum stick). Be aware, it is loud, it sounds like it has a build in amp. With that said, if you have friends with kids that you don't like that much, get them this as a gift.
