  • It actually works!
Style: Torque
This thing is an amazing time saver if you’re a tuning perfectionist, like me. You can use it to quickly get all of your tension rods up to the same tension, and then fine tune with a TuneBot. It’s typically accurate enough to get every lug within 2-3 Hz of one another. The lowest tension settings may still be too high if you have really floppy floor tom heads, but it works great for “normal” tunings, including snare reso heads which are typically super tight. One thing to note is that the “clutch” does not fully disengage when you’ve reached the set tension. The plastic part will click out of position to let you know to stop, but you can’t just keep cranking it like you can with a torque wrench. It’s not a big deal, you just have to be careful to twist it at a reasonable speed so you don’t miss the click. ... show more

  • Makes tuning quick and easy!
Style: Torque
I LOVE how this key works. Reason for 4 stars is that I have owned 2 of these and they are not consistent with each other at all! I wanted to have one in each of my drum bags but it's difficult because of the inconsistency. On one key I like my snare to be at about 6.5. The other key 6.5 is equivalent to about 4 on my first key that holds the 6.5. The third key needs me to set it at about 9 to be the same as 6.5. I'll have to label each key with something to let me know which one I'm using. But ultimately I was sticking to my first key but have now misplaced it, so it's been a little frustrating having to learn a new key again. Aside from that, once you get your settings to where you like them it's very quick and easy to tune. Just don't lose it or you'll have to start over with a new key with totally different tensions. I know, drummers not losing keys is the long standing joke!! ... show more

  • When Speed is Required
Style: Drill Bit
If you need an extremely quick change then the Evans key used in a power screwdriver is the way to go. Slim design also allows access to tight location lugs especially on kick drums. A must have.

  • Not for low tension
Style: Torque
It is just not “sensitive” enough on lower settings.

  • Simple but effective
Style: Torque
This little tuner seems to work pretty well. Definitely has a bit of a learning curve, but overall very effective. As a newbie to the drums, tuning has been a huge struggle. I’m not sure that it got my drums in perfect tune but it made a very noticeable difference very quickly.

  • Not useful for low tuning
Style: Torque
If you like a fat-ish snare or low pitched toms this isn’t useful. I finger tighten then am usually good with a half turn. The lowest setting would only register after 2 turns minimum.
