  • Esquire is really the only play...
Not to be confused with or classified amongst such boyish rags as GQ, Esquire magazine is the broadest sweeping ode to the American man we have in periodical print. In no other magazine will you find the compendium of practical information, raw investigative journalism, summation of one(usually prolific) man's life lessons (See 'What I've Learned- every issue ever), a great work of short fiction, thoughts on life, money sex, work, kids, politics, etc... and even what one might wear if one was a narrower, Ryan what's-his-face type fellow instead of a 5'7 275lb man-bear. It's hard to cram into a short review what they cram into an issue of Esquire and even harder to explain how others just fall short, but for my money, if you had to subscribe to just one, this is it. ... show more

  • The story of Stephanie Lee is a must read for anyone who knows anyone with cancer
I bought this cooy because of my interest in the Stephanie Lee story. Please continue to follow her story and this important issue. Very moving story and a must read for anyone who has ever known someone facing cancer. The medical community has to wake up. "First do no harm" certainly applies.... but there are many who feel the ultimate harm ccurs when the meducal community gives up and settles for short lengthening of life rather than boldly trying new approaches..... my own mother suffered and passed away as we listened to the medical professionals apply standard practices. Of course that almost always ends with the patient eventually losing the battle. This story is one of hope born through the willingness of complete strangers to think outside of the box and take very calculated risks based on solid principles of physics, mathematics, science, and biology....... definitely a most powerful story. Thanks. ... show more

  • You may have to Google who Walter Cronkite is......
I love Esquire...classy, great articles (I even read the editor's column), humor, grooming and fashion advice.... all for $8 a year. I have gotten tips on shaving, hair products, bourbons, and restaurants, and I may drool after the $5000 Oxfords (you have to take them back to the store to get them shined, they're like a Silver Shadow), they remain a fantasy. The recent 80th anniversary edition was great, profiling 80 men (and boys) from age 1 to 80 years old. It is just some of the most intelligent writing out there. My wife thought it was a girlie magazine, until she read it. It does feature women, but they are also intelligent choices, not picked for their mammarian assets. In a world of sound bytes and purposeful minimized information and sensational (inaccurate) headlines, Esquire is the Walter Cronkite of the magazine world. ... show more

  • Good magazine, clumsy and frustrating digital edition
I am a long time reader of Esquire magazine, it is a great diversion and often has very good stories on politics, sports, and social figures. However, the digital version, available on my kindle fire, is poorly designed and difficult to use. As a result, it makes reading the magazine much more challenging and detracts tremendously from the overall reading experience. It's a shame that Esquire couldn't follow the better and smarter model used by magazines like the New Yorker, SI, Wired, EW, and other publications. Instead, you have to flip through the pages to get to a story, double click to make the text larger, and cannot move easily throughout the magazine to change stories. Three stars solely for Esquire's content - if there was a question about the digital layout and my views on that - then it would be one star. ... show more

  • Solid Magazine
Esquire is a solid print magazine but do be prepared for ads on ads on ads. I don't think this takes away from the overall content of the magazine but something you should be prepared for. As far as the most important question regarding magazine subscriptions, no I would not pay the newsstand price per issue. Heck, I don't think I would even pay $25 a year for it. That however is not a knock against Esquire but really magazines in general. There are only one or two magazines I would do that for: The Atlantic being one of them. ... show more

  • Perfect magazine for the well-dressed, interesting, refined, working man.
A very entertaining magazine, I bought this alongside Forbes, and this magazine is more entertaining. (while the latter is more informative). My first issue of Esquire was exactly what I wanted it to be. Although, could have done without Channing Tatum. Many advertisements for luxurious brands and designer clothing (love it). It is generally the perfect magazine for the well-dressed, refined man. You'll find product reviews of Cars, Suits, Professional Clothing, & Fragrances. You'll also see stories of success and interviews with important men. ... show more

  • A Must-Read Legendary Men's Magazine.
The attempts to appeal to the younger guys haven't hurt it at all. The venerable "What I've Learned" section and "Man At His Best" alone are worth the subscription. In the March 2013 issue, the article "The Man Who Shot Osama bin Laden" Is a "must-read". It is the true account of the mission and it corrects erroneous errors in the movie "Zero Dark Thirty". You won't find articles like this anywhere else. It's like "Rolling Stone without the bias. True-Life stories, new fiction from popular authors and great reviews on food and drink make it worthwhile. Though I would never buy an $8000 suit, at least I know what one looks like! The fashion tips are the Best! ... show more
