I was renovating wood soffit above kitchen cabinets that had four 3.5" can lights. Because I was able to access and remove the old can lights, I decided to replace them with these updated 4" LED lights. Install was straight forward. I used a 105 mm diameter hole saw to cut into 1 x 6 tongue and groove board, per the instruction which resulted in a perfect fit the the LED lights. The junction box is a bit small. I was running three of the lights in series, which required connecting 14/3 romex in both sides of the junction box to the wiring terminals for two of the lights. It was a bit challenging to insert each wire into its respective terminal given the limited room and the stiffness of the Romex wires (4 out of 5 stars for ease of install). When only running a single connection, the install was a lot easier. Please note, you will need to purchase/provide wire clamps for the junction box. Connecting the LED light to the junction box was very easy with the included junction box connectors. There is a switch to select 2700K(soft white), 3000K(warm white), 3500K(neutral white), 4000K(cool white) or 5000K(daylight). Don't worry if you need to change them post install. The snap springs make it easy to remove the LED lights and access the switch on the junction box. Overall these LEDs are a nice upgrade over the old can lights. I bought 20 of these for the house I'm building right now, so can't comment on how well they work over time, but I am pretty impressed with the overall look and feel of these for the price. I contacted support about extension cables for the low voltage side thinking I would need to remote the controllers but they don't have any extensions and couldn't help me find them. The best they could do was tell me it was a two pin connector and draw a little sketch showing what the connector looks like (tried to get info before they arrived). But the connector is not what they described! It's actually a 3 pin connector and uses tiny little pins. I searched every cable I could find on Amazon and couldn't find the right one, but turned out I didn't really need them. Here are a couple of things you'll want to get if you buy these to install yourself. If you are installing in drywall or wood, then this hole saw works great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07LGKR22L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I want these to mount in the eaves of my house outside which is Hardie board, so this saw doesn't work, so I found this carbide hole saw that worked perfectly: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008GVICHI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I am doing all smart switches with dimmers, so I bought one of the Kasa smart dimmer/switch with the features I wanted and hooked it up to test it with these lights. I used a combination of the 4 and 6 inch version of these LED lights to transform our bedroom, hallways, and office. If I had access to the 1st floor ceilings I’d install them everywhere. These are extremely easy to install, especially if you already have romex run, or are comfortable running it. Otherwise installation is probably left to an electrician. I purchased the corresponding hole saws to match the templates provided with the lights, and ran them in reverse (thanks home renovision) with excellent results. Making the connections in the box is easy with the provided push nuts. You do need to get knock out grommets- but they are so common and easy to pick up as necessary. LOVE the selectable color as my SO hates the bright white LEDs! We settled in on the 3200k setting throughout the house. The springs hold the lights tight to the ceiling. Very good quality. We did install dimmer switches on each of the branches with these lights as it allows us to easily dial in the current mood of the room. While dimmer switches can be costly, it was certainly an upgrade we are very happy with. One branch we have a Amazon basics smart dimmer on, with the soft on and off, and it really does make the lights and room feel so much more expensive that it really was. ... show more
