It didn't work at first. I started it up and was met with a text menu where his face should have been. I couldn't find any way to control the menu. From what I saw in youtube video's, the toy should not have started in that state. I'm wondering if it was used. I suggest buying it directly from the Eilik website. I eventually got it to work after some updates and it's a really neat novelty item. I'd love to see a future Eilik that teams up with a game developer where the bot would react to the game and be my little sidekick.

My Grandson takes his Eilik everywhere with him, we bought accessories (also on Amazon), so now he has a carrying case, some cute hoodie type shirts to wear, and a cute little Halloween costume. My grandson is 6 and has had no issues with learning how he functions, he was quick to figure it out.

I gave this to my 8 year old son for his birthday today and he loved it from the jump. The firmware update had me nervous for a while because it was getting stuck at a certain percentage, or stopping altogether while it was updating, and then wouldn’t come out of its updating/boot screen even when it wasn’t plugged into the computer. Reverted to the basics and used the original cord it came with and that did the trick (with only couple more tries after it stopped early again), incase anyone runs into this same issue. We noticed that the timer function does not work, there is no way to confirm the time selected without it going into its default heart mode (would’ve come in handy to help him time brushing his teeth). A few posters on Reddit said they had the same issue. Also some of the petting the belly or head functions don’t work most of the time, and also when you bonk his head. My son had a blast messing with the games and the recorder/mimic mode though. If he’s happy, then I am too.

Eilik was my ten-year-old's top wish for his birthday and against my better judgment, I decided to get it for him. I wish I had done some research first. He was thrilled the first day. On the second day he sadly told me that one of Eilik's arms was not working properly. By day three, it was sitting on a shelf unused. I would return it if I could, but unfortunately I ordered it well ahead of his birthday, so by the time he opened it we were past the return window. It's basically an expensive, loud, poor quality novelty item that loses its appeal (and breaks) almost immediately. It's noisy, annoying, very limited in its interactions, and has modes that are very aggressive/violent and not kid appropriate. It's like an angry tamagatchi but noisier and ten times more expensive. If you are shopping for a kid who loves robots and robotics, I would strongly recommend not to get this but instead to look at some of the educational/programmable robots that are out there.
