The wheel cart allows for the transport of the Honeywell 1106 Fire Chest. The wheel cart is extremely convenient and very easy to use. There is some assembly required, but it is very minimal and simple to do. Once the cart is all put together it is extremely durable and made to last.     • This is a well designed product to protect important documents against fire and flooding.
I ordered this on Amazon and it was delivered with shipping damage. Amazon processed a return at no cost to me other than my time to take it to a UPS Store. A replacement was sent and received a few days later. The replacement was in perfect condition and will be put to its intended use. This is a heavy safe due to the insulation materials used. I have no doubt the heat and time ratings tested by UL laboratories are accurate. The closure system, lock, and gasketing are adequate and it seems to me will meet heat exposure and the 24 hour submersion specifications. It is interesting that the recommendation is to open the safe very two weeks to air out so that a mildew smell is avoided. This seems like a lot of maintenance but it shows that the Honeywell understands that if the documents are valuable enough to protect from fire and flood that mildew would be a problem too. I will use a desiccant inside the safe and open less often. If that works then it won't go on my things to do list to open the safe and air it out every two weeks. In any event it a well designed product for fire and flooding protection but not so much for theft. The lock is weak and simply taking the whole safe is an option for someone wanting to steal ones valuable documents. So put it someplace or take steps to avoid theft of the entire box. ... show more

    • Great storage
This is a very well made safe. I can't speak to the waterproof feature as yet, but all of the other attributes are much better than the old Sentry Fire Safe I once owned. The latch mechanisms are sturdy, hold the lid tightly closed, but release easily and completely to open the lid. There is a recess at the front to put your fingers in to lift the lid. The file cavity is larger in all dimensions than my old safe. This design also has deep cutouts on each side to allow the safe to be more easily lifted and carried. None of these features are found on the Sentry, you had to lift and carry the safe from the bottom, tough to lift a 40lb safe with just fingertips. You had to almost stand on the lid to get the mechanism to release, which thankfully broke and fell off the front of the safe, rendering it completely useless, as it would no longer lock. Even at the slightly higher price you will be pleased you purchased the Honeywell, and it's waterproof. ... show more

    • A few small issues, but mostly works fine
The case is absurdly heavy for its size, but that's probably a benefit - thieves may be less willing to haul it away! The plastic casing feels cheap, I wouldn't trust it to a drop or a top / side impact. The lock mechanism is mostly for show, it's very cheap, clunky, and difficult to work with. The interior of the safe appears to be high quality. Good seal with latches and appropriate fireproofing. Because of the fireproofing, you are required to air out the safe once a month. There isn't much to complain about here, it's a product of the material. I haven't personally verified it's resistance to water and fire, but it seems solid. ... show more

The true test of this fireproof/waterproof safe won't happen until there's a fire, and let's hope that never happens! There are only two things that I'd like changed on this safe: 1. I wish it had a more sturdy locking mechanism. As is common in all safes in this category, the lock seems to be the weak point. 2. I wish that there was some way to anchor this unit to a floor or wall so that someone couldn't just pick it up and walk away with it. Lastly, and this is both a positive and a negative: This safe is quite heavy (nearly 50 pounds)! It's good in that it's very sturdy. It's bad because it may be difficult for a weaker or older to move (I'm neither of those things, so I'm quite glad that it's heavy and sturdy!). ... show more

The Honeywell Safe arrived broken which is very disappointing. The light weight plastic handle was smashed inside the box and bent beyond repair. Also I was shocked to see that the lock was internally jammed shut which prevented the key from inserting or locking. It's as if I received some else's used and broken item. I contacted Amazon and they wouldn't mail me a new one unless I returned the safe in its packaging, which is impossible because the safe is too heavy to lift by myself and it rips the thin box it came in upon unpacking it. It does not feel good to waste one hundred dollars and be stuck with a heavy piece of junk and a bad attitude from Amazon. Honeywell, if you read this please help. ... show more

    • A sense of security
I did a lot of research both on and off of Amazon before buying this safe. The Honeywell units seemed to stand up to fires the best in product testing, but the standards and models are always changing so I encourage you to do your own research too before deciding which safe is best for your most valuable things. Also, it's fun to watch people put safes into controlled fires and then bust them open. Overall though, this safe has a great amount of storage space for the value on Amazon. It's very heavy and would not be simple for someone to carry away quickly because there's also not a great way to grab onto it. That being said, there's no way to bolt it to anything either so it just needs to sit on it's trolly, which I actually like and find to be very convenient. I was mainly concerned with fire protection over security when I choose this safe and would probably have leaned toward something with a keypad entry and wall attachment option if security was my biggest concern. I paired this safe with a "fireproof" envelope inside too, to help extend the protection a little longer. This safe does state that it needs to be locked in order to provide protection and I'm guessing that is because the latches are actually made of plastic and would burn up more quickly than the rest of the safe. The locking latch mechanism is metal and this type of build seems like the industry standard. Also, be sure to put some silica gel packets into the safe to prevent moisture buildup and remember to open and air your safe out from time to time. ... show more
