  • Great Little Stereo - Nothing to Dislike
I'm a former musician and audio engineer and mostly use this for basic desktop computer audio via BT. I will occasionally set it up as a monitor speaker for practicing guitar, as well (run the outputs of a Zoom pedal rig straight into the Edifier's RCA jacks). It works great in both scenarios and represents terrific value for money. If I had to point out a downside, I would suggest that the audio quality is overly bassy for my tastes, so I usually crank the lows down about 10% as a result. (Unhappy Sidenote: Two years ago, this same D12 model was exactly 50% cheaper!) ... show more

  • It is great for the price, there's a glitch about the volume nob
I love it. I used to have the 1280, it was great but thought about getting this one because of its looks and space, and it's great. Great volume, and good looks, but the volume nob sometimes works badly, like I want to turn the volume a little bit down, and it does the opposite.

  • 99% perfect
The high end and low end of this unit is great. And when it's placed on a bookshelf it sounds much larger than it really is. This can easily feel a small room with sound. I have it connected to an echo Dot so that I can stream Spotify to it. My only issue with it is I can't keep the volume turned up anywhere above 4 and 1/2 out of 10 when it's not in use. If I do so there is a audible hiss that comes from the speaker. So I can only turn the speaker to 4.5 and leave it there and just play Spotify when I want to. That being said I will be buying another for another room in the house. I really like the speaker ... show more

  • You are getting what you pay for, and that's not a bad thing!
I got this to replace a rechargeable Bluetooth desktop/portable name brand speaker that lasted only a couple years before it refused to hold a charge and turn on (replacement batteries were $70 and you HAVE to send it in). I wanted something of similar sound quality that didn't have a battery. Things of note: -While you can take this speaker and set it up anywhere, I would say it is not portable. -The Bluetooth is not worth it, I recommend only aux connection -The remote is fine, but useless to me, I use the main power switch on the back every time -Out of the box, it sounds flat and hollow. You're going to have to EQ this thing (use software on PC or phone), and I got great results with a basic "smile" shaped curve. I don't know a lot about it, but the internet does, and I had fun messing with it -I set it to the "music" setting rather than the "movie" setting. The bass quickly gets muddy and heavy. It's great for music once set up, very immersive and detailed, however I feel I am missing some clarity. This speaker is perfect for: -A desk or a bookshelf, where it won't move. Come home, plug the aux into your phone and jam out -A computer set up you can fine tune and listen to music on -Maybe use it with your TV- I haven't tried, but I think it'd be nice ... show more

  • Great Value!
It is exactly what I wanted, an inexpensive good sounding stereo speaker that fits nicely in my Ikea Billy bookcase. I use this mostly for background music in my library. I think it sounds great for the price with plenty of volume. I only stream music via Bluetooth. I have the sound mode set to "movie" as it helps the midrange, even for music. Having separate bass and treble knobs is very nice. As is a real volume control knob. Build quality is excellent for a speaker at this price. I took the cloth speaker cover off as it doesn't fit my decor. Downsides: The remote doesn't have great range (but it is nice that one is included). I wish it had a power saving mode (auto off). ... show more

  • Slightly disappointed - Updated
I've had two other Edifier book shelf speaker sets and they sound great! This speaker, the D12 weighs a ton and sounds good except when the volume is turned up and no input provided, there is a low volume whine coming out of the speaker. I have verified the whine is coming from the internal cicuitry by unplugging all inputs and only plugging the speaker into AC in a location far away from any other electronic devices. I typically only listen to the speaker on low to medium volume so the whine is not noticable but I am slightly disappointed with the speaker.I will keep it since I don't want to go through the hassele of returning and not sure if a replacement would be any better. Sorry to have to lower my original rating by one star but I have discovered another problem with the D12 speaker. I am using it on a VIZIO D32 series smart TV. The TV has poor audio, small rear facing speakers and I wanted to improve the sound so I bought the Edifier D12. It now appears the D12 remote IR commands are using some of the same codes of the VIZIO TV. When I press the down arrow on the TV remote, the D12 toggles off. Pressing the up arrow and down again toggles the D12 back on. I suspect other TV remote buttons are affecting the D12 operation since I have to keep manually readjusting the volume on the D12. I'm surprised Edifier (a Chinese company) would build a product that uses the same remote control codes as the VIZIO TV (another large Chinese company). I really don't need to control the D12 via remote so now I need to locate the IR photocell on the D12 and disable it, cover it up with a piece of tape I guess. ... show more

  • Good Value Purchase
First, I am not a Vine reviewer. I paid for this speaker. I do, however, have a little bit of a speaker fetish and I have owned my share of desktop, shelf and portable speakers. Most comparable: Monster Beatbox and Auvio htb6000. This is the cheapest msrp compact non-battery powered speaker I've purchased. And surprisingly, its a beautiful unit that holds its own. Sound Quality:. Solid 7/10 (very good). Needs a subwoofer. The unit fades out fast when you go low. The mids/highs are beautiful. The sound is balanced and warm. If you like a bass guitar, I think you'll like this speaker. If you like pop or rap, maybe not so much. Volume:. This was the biggest disappointment. It gets to a comfortable listening level but we aren't exactly rocking the block. I question if the 70 watts are peak. Hit 88db on my meter from about 10 feet away. Overall, good value purchase that will at least compete with more expensive speakers, even though it may not go as low or get as loud. Just don't have unrealistic expectations. My $.02. Edit: I am changing this to 5 stars because it is a steal for $99. ... show more
