  • Be very careful with the Diazo Packet!
Ok so I bought this because I needed a suitable alternative to Speedball's Daizo Photo Emulsion. And it does it's job, yeah when washing out it needs a little bit of light scrubbing with a tooth brush but it comes out crisp. Just be very careful with the sensitizer packet, it's a little finicky. Especially when filling it. But all in all if you're working on smaller projects this is a pretty good deal for what you're paying for. I'm including pictures since it seems that no one has included what their screens looked like. Overall it's a decent photo emulsion and it's definitely cheaper than buying a small 8 oz jar of photo emulsion. ... show more

  • Experienced Maker, New Screen Printer Approved
I was easily able to set up a couple dozen small screens with this emulsion over the course of about 4 weeks and it worked well to the end. I stored the product, after opening and activating, in a dark, cold closet where I usually let the screens set overnight before burning in the sun for 45 seconds and hosing them down with my weak hose for a few minutes. In hindsight, I should have used a pressure washer to clean out the image, because when this emulsion sets, it can handle the pressure. They are easy to clean ink off without effecting the photo emulsion, and the photo emulsion cleans off easily with the proper remover. Note that I had used 110 mesh screens and water based inks. It worked well for someone just starting out in 1-color printing, but I will definitely purchase in the future when I feel like taking on multi-color! Needless to say, I highly recommend this! ... show more

  • 500 watt light
This emulsion works out great for me since i only use water based inks. I use a harbor freight 500 watt light at exactly 16.5 inchs away from the top of the screen for 4 min.

  • Use proper setup practices, regardless of which emulsion you use.
Easy to use and works well if you follow the directions and maintain proper working conditions. I burned my screen with a 300w bulb at 18" for 6 minutes, and was able to get perfect 1/16" line details. You'll definitely want to use an exposure calculator in order to find the best exposure for your screens. So far, the screens are holding up after a few dozens runs. ... show more

  • Wasn't able to get it to work properly
In short, it did not matter if I used a 500w halogen light or sunlight, could not get it to expose properly. I searched high and low on the web for help. I found the product sheet and while it does list exposure times, they fail to mention the distance from the lamp to the screen. I tried 12 inches and using an exposure calculator, I exposed all 10 steps 2 minutes at a time for a total of 20 minutes. I also tried using printer paper with cooking oil and transparency with glass. As I said, nothing I did mattered. I am out of things to try and done using this product. Good luck if you decide to try it but I do not recommend it ... show more

  • Extremely Disappointed! Ruined two new 18"x20" screens.
I've always used Speedball photo emulsion, but I like other Ecotex products so I figured I would give this a try. Extremely disappointed with this product. Came full to the top which made mixing in sensitizer impossible and incredibly messy to pour on to screen. Let the screens cure but when I went to develop them I noticed there were bubbles ands clumps. I attempted to just remove the emulsion using the Exotex brand remover and the emulsion would not come out. Not only did I waste my money on this product, but it ruined two brand new screens. ... show more

  • Good Luck ever getting this crap off of your screens
I've wasted gallons of water trying to wash my screens with this crap cooked on. I've used many different emulsions, water based, diazo or no diazo and this one is by far the worst yet. It goes on like the others and also burns close to others, but the second you try to washout it's a noticeable difference. Your artwork will take 2-3 times longer to washout and you run the risk of damaging your stencil while doing so. I have screens of all mesh counts stacking up in my shop that have to be re-stretched because the emulsion is simply baked on. I'll never make the mistake of using this stuff again! I'm even throwing out what's left so I don't have these issues going further. ... show more

  • don't buy if you can't use up VERY soon
i bought this thinking the description fit exactly what i was looking for, but after purchasing i was looking for more detailed instructions on mixing the diazo on screen printing direct's website and only there do they say the shelf life is one week after activation. so i returned it because i am one small person who could not possibly find enough screens in the world to coat in one week and use up the whole pint. the only reason i give it 3 stars is because i couldn't actually use it for my personal needs, i have no idea well the product works. though i shipped out my return on december 29th and it still says it hasn't reached its return destination, which should be domestic so i don't know how it's not even there yet. hoping the customer service is good and they get back soon cause it's been a pretty disappointing experience so far. ... show more
