These yak cheese sticks are fantastic dog chews. They are very durable. Even when soaking wet they are not slimy. The bag I bought had six sticks each one between six and 7 inches. None were broken. Buying them this way is a lot less expensive than getting them from the pet store. I’m including photos of how I attach a small Tennis ball to the end of the stick to prevent the dog from swallowing the last chunk. I haven’t had this problem but do note that if your dog drops the stick repetitively on concrete it will probably break. They are quite brittle.     • Healthy and longlasting - even for aggressive chewers!

I have Dalmatians and they can't have certain meats/etc for health reasons. Finding a healthy, NON RAWHIDE, chew that lasts my biggest chewer more than 5 minutes is extremely difficult. Someone suggested these yak chews and I decided to give them a try. They're more expensive than the cheap stuff but these are nice and healthy. 1 medium sized chew lasted my most aggressive chewer 45minutes. That is 45minutes of NON-STOP AGGRESSIVE CHEWING. When the dogs chew it down to where it's unsafe - just pop it in the microwave and it becomes a new, flaky, treat that they can eat without worry of getting lodged in their throat.     • Skeptical about its freshness?

I read a lot of the reviews about these Himalayan dog chews and a lot of them were negative regarding the freshness of the product. I saw pictures of their chews with mold on them and I thought this was going to be a bad product. But the price was so good and because of Amazon's no hassle return policy, I decided to give them a try. Delivery was right on time, the package itself was new and sealed. After opening and inspecting the 4 pieces, I saw they were fresh and looked new. No bad smell either. My dogs have been chewing on them for the past week and they're fine. I have been buying Himalayan Cheese chews for my dogs for years. I purchased these because they seemed to be an excellent value. When they arrived today, the first thing I noticed is that they appear to have coloring and a smoked smell sprayed on them. None of the other cheese chews have ever had this smell. Sections of the outside appeared dark brown where the inside is a white/cream colored. Definitely wasn’t from baking it... it was a sprayed on color. I also noticed that these didn’t seem as dense/heavy and many of them had holes or open areas inside them that you could see from from the sides. I gave one to one of my dogs anyway and was a bit alarmed at how fast he was chewing it up and the large pieces that were coming off. Our dogs (28 lbs and 46 lbs) typically take days, and sometimes weeks to chew one of these up. I ended up taking it away from him because I was concerned about the large pieces causing an intestinal issue. These just aren’t made the same and I cannot risk one of our dogs getting sick, being in pain or a huge vet bill. I’ll pay more for the good brand. Full Disclosure: I have not actually tasted these myself, and do not intend to. Why deprive my dogs of even a smidgen? I run a small dog care business, and have yet to meet a dog who doesn’t adore them. They’re long-lasting (as in weeks), have no human-discernible odor, don’t pick up dust, get soggy or spew stuffing and good for indoors as well as out. They meet the diverse play expectations of every breed I’ve cared for from Pomeranian to Great Dane: chewers, chasers, toters, tossers, hoarders, burrowers, tug-of-war aficionados - the dogs incorporate these bars into however they most like to play. One of my dog works it down to a nubbin, which she then hides in a secret spot. More aggressive chewers spend hours just chomping away. Perhaps the best thing about them is that the dogs don’t fight over them as they often do with other treats and toys, which I find both amazing and inexplicable. One dog will wait patiently watching another chew, until the first dog gets distracted or drops the bar off the couch, and only then will the second dog take it. Even the ones who typically snatch and grab are less aggressive when it comes to these. Of course, I still spend a small fortune in dog treats for instant gratification, rewards and training, but these bars have replaced the “long lasting” treats I used to buy of the busy bone genre, as well as the hard plastic and stuffed toys that were lucky to last a day. I got these for two 50 lbs dogs (lab, german shorthair pointer). Each one lasts about a week. They can bite off large chunks when they are long (some reviewers say rice size pieces but they were chomping off half inch pieces... so be careful). As they get smaller, they sort of scrape off smaller pieces. They love it when I put the last bit in the microwave. It comes out like a sort of airy cracker. ... show more

    • One of my Chihuahua's is obsessed with the Gold Yak Chews.

Both of my Chi's love the Yak Chews, but one is obsessed with them. The Vet is happy with the condition of their teeth and I am sure that the Yak chews have helped keep their teeth clean. I have started to limit the time that they have the chew, especially the obsessed one, because I don't know how much extra salt they are getting from the chew. I like the fact that there are so few ingredients in the chew, but don't know how much of the salt is too much, or if I should be concerned.
