  • Review from a fat guy after laying on it for 5+ months.
Size: King Style: Medium
We got this when it was on about a half price special, which is still a decent amount to pay for a mattress. Our last bed was a Stearns & Foster plush -firm so we weren't sure what to expect with this in 'medium' firmness. First, what I didn't like about the bed was that it was a few inches shorter, and less wide than our old S&F mattress that had fit our platform bed frame like a glove. The wife doesn't like that this one has space on the sides where you can see the wooden slats (maybe 1-1 1/2" on any given side). This has also left a bit of a void near our headboard. I'm not sure if this is a normal thing as far as the size goes, as we only have the S&F mattress to compare to. It was also about 3" less tall than the old S&F. I do feel that I hit the bed frame at night when I shift positions, but only briefly.. and I would kind of expect it since I'm over 400lbs. What I do like about it is that it really does kind of 'cradle' you when you lay in it. Our old S&F was definitely not like that. It was more like laying 'on top' of it with a little springy/foamyness. This Eco Terra is more like you lay 'in' the bed, but without a sinking feeling. It isn't hot, nor does it keep one from rolling from side to side easily with 'divots' (and I'm a big dude so I know me some divots in memory-foam type of beds). I saw concerns of 'edge crush' or rolling off the side with it being foam, etc. I've laid almost to the edge without sloping/falling off so no worries there. As for sitting on the side, I don't think this mattress or my last one liked me doing that, so I think that is just a 'me' thing. Prior to this I looked at a ton of reviews. Purple, Casper, and other ads were haunting me around the web for a month or so. The big downside with going for this one was there wasn't any of the '100 night' stuff.. it was your typical Amazon return window.. and I saw no way to legitimately roll this baby back up, stuff it in a box, and send it back if you wanted to. Luckily we didn't need to. A few things I would like to see in this mattress are another 1-2" added to the width/height of the 'King' sized mattress to fit similarly as the S&F had to a typical 'King' bedframe. I would also like either another 1-3" of foam and/or taller springs to make the bed a little taller. As it is now, its about the height of a typical mattress - 11" or so. UPDATE - nearly 2 years later. We switched to different bedroom furniture after moving recently and had to get a boxspring to use with this instead of our old platform bed. The space around the sides is not an issue with the new furniture and boxspring. It is still comfortable to lay on. Unfortunately my wife and I have developed a few back issues and apparently the orthopedic recommendation is to sleep on a firm mattress, which this 'medium' does not really qualify as. I'm not sure how much more firm the medium-firm is so I can't compare for folks looking for something firm. When the bed is made with the comforter on, you can see a bit of a divot on both sides of the bed where my wife and I lay on the bed. Our old bed didn't have this issue even after the 8 or 9 years we had it. Maybe it is just part for the course with a hybrid bed. Like I said, the bed is comfortable for folks who like something a bit softer/medium and do not require something firm for back/neck issues. We're probably going to need to swap out the mattress anyways to something firmer, which is not the mattresses fault, but I wasn't excited to see it leaving visible divots after only a few years with it being a $1100 mattress. Update 5 years in.. We still have this mattress, I actually like it and don't have any problems. It still kind of divots, but we haven't really rotated it, as I wasn't aware that was part of the recommendation so we'll try that and see if it helps anything. Also the divot hasn't gotten any worse than it was as if my last review that I've noticed. If you have a fluffy comforter it's not noticable as it would be with a thinner quilt type covering. I landed on buying this because it was natural latex vs synthetic, and it was about half off at the time. This along with the individual coils, which is a selling point on most above-average mattresses. Our old S&F mattress wore to be quite hard in the end, and after adapting to this mattress, I've enjoyed it. We are currently looking at upgrading to an adjustable base bed with independent side adjustments, so this will likely be the last update from me. I'm looking at Sven & Son's on that setup, after having been shocked by the adjustable bed price options at our local furniture stores. ... show more

  • Great mattress, great choice
Size: Queen Style: Medium
I wanted to wait before posting anything about this mattress, which my wife and I purchased in mid-December. A mattress is an item I didn't want to own a week and give a 5, so I figured a couple months was fair. The mattress arrived very quickly and in perfect condition, I had purchased a new frame which was already set up and waiting for the mattress. The box is bulky, but way easier to move the mattress in the box than trying to move the mattress by itself. I put the box across the end of the bed, gently cut it open and basically just pulled the mattress straight out onto the bed, very easy. We cut open the bag and pulled it off and that was that. Hardly any smell at all, we slept on it that night and we are so glad we spent the extra money as we love our mattress. We went out of town about a month after we had been sleeping on the new mattress and for the first time in a long time, we could agree we missed sleeping in our own bed and that was totally due to the comfort level of our mattress. I am a big guy, 325 poundsish and I have zero issues, I am also a side sleeper, again no issues. We have both been getting great night sleeps and everything else you may want to do on your bed has been great as well, not too springy and not too squishy/sinky which was my biggest concern with a memory foam type mattresses. This is something you will most likely use 7-10 years, don't go cheap on such an important part of your life. If for any reason my feelings change or if anyone has any questions, I will definitely update this review and I will always try to respond quickly to questions. **So just a brief update on 4/11/17, everything is still awesome, we did rotate our mattress, we are going to try and do that every 5-6 months since I am quite a bit bigger than my wife, to hopefully keep it wearing evenly.** Here is a tip if the mattress is sliding for you at all or if you just want to make sure it never does, they have a Safavieh Rug Pad at bed bath and beyond that is about the exact size of a queen size bed (It was about $15 bucks and I had the $5 off coupon as I am sure we all do, so it only cost us about $10) and we just bought a roll of that and laid it on the frame and it works like a champ. We purchased our frame from Amazon, it's the Zinus 14 Inch SmartBase Mattress Foundation and it is fantastic. It's very well made and it's very quiet, as in not a sound and you have huge clearance under the bed for storage or cats, which is where ours go often. *** 7/9/18 Thought it was time for another update. So we are just over a year and a half and still loving our mattress. So far still no body dents or sagging, we have rotated it around 3 times now, no idea if that’s helping or not. We purchased a brand new 12” thick memory foam mattress for our spare bedroom and it’s okay, I have napped on it to test it out, but just not as comfy to me. I bought it off Amazon and it’s rated very high with like 12k reviews. I still highly recommend this mattress and the frame mentioned above, it has also been perfect. 6/23/19 My last update unless something crazy happens. We could not be happier with our mattress, it’s held up perfectly, we sleep great and soundly. I could not be happier with my choice for a mattress and I hope my review helped at least one other person along the way. We spend a third of our life in bed, do it comfortably, it does make a difference. :) I will still try to answer any questions that pop into my inbox about the mattress, as long as I can give an honest and intelligent answer. 11/3/20 I am back!! Hey it’s Election Day, I thought I would make another update. So far so good, we still love our mattress and sleep comfortably and soundly. We did just rotate it again, I think about every six months or so. I am much bigger than my wife, I think it’s a smart move to rotate it for that reason. You wanna try to get it to wear equally. 11/27/22 Hello everyone! Decided to pop in and post an update! I think we are going on 6 years since we got our mattress and it is still awesome. It looks like new still, firm all the way around, oh yeah since my original post, I have lost like 35 pounds! Yes, you are right, I need to lose more but it’s a start. Anyway we still rotate the mattress every 6-8 months and both sides still holding up well. I see it’s got some bad reviews and that is sad. Maybe we got lucky as ours has been awesome. Well good luck everyone, if you read all my posts, thank you. :) ... show more

  • It sags like an air mattress that doesn't have enough air in it.
Size: Full Style: Medium Firm
I purchased the medium-firm mattress, and my partner and I have slept on it for two nights. I am only 135 pounds, and the mattress feels like it is sagging and sinking in the middle. It hurts my back and does not provide enough support. It almost feels like an air mattress in terms of support. My partner weights about 145. The mattress feels like this regardless of whether I am alone in it or if we are both in it, although it is a bit worse when we are both in it. We both sink into the middle of the mattress like quicksand. The edges of the mattress feel more supportive, but I have to fight gravity to stay on the side instead of rolling into the droopy middle part. It is also really bouncy, and every time my partner moves, the mattress bounces and wakes me up. Very disappointing when I was hoping for a firm and supportive mattress. I think this would be a fine mattress for someone who likes a soft mattress that you can sink into, but if you want something firm and supportive, this mattress is not it. UPDATE: After sleeping on the mattress for several weeks, I have gotten used to it and it no longer hurts my back. I still sleep on the edge of the mattress for more firmness, so that's not ideal, but it is a good bed overall. I was used to a very firm mattress before, so switching to this mattress was a really big adjustment. There are no other issues with the bed, so I increased my rating to 3 stars. ... show more
