There is a saying, you get what you pay for. Thing is, you sometimes have to make due with your budget. Reed instruments are a pretty niche case. This cheap saxophone is just that, Cheap. Just like my cheap clarinet, it's where you spend your time and money that counts. Toss the reeds and mouthpiece that ships with this to the storage for an emergency, investment in a Yamaha 3C mouthpiece and some quality reeds, and handle the instrument with care, and it will reward you for it. The intonnation is great, notes are within an acceptable range of sharp and flat variance, and unless you are a professional doing this for a living, this saxophone will work quite well for even moderate concerts. ... show more

I always wanted to learn to play saxophone. I'm 62 and this is a perfect instrument to start. The only thing I did not like was the book it came with. The print was beyond tiny and it did not explain how to assemble the sax. I had to go online for that.

    • Wrong color, ligature all bent up, plastic screws

I ordered silver, they sent rose with blue-green key caps. Took the mouthpiece apart to place the reed, noticed that the ligature is all bent and misshapen. You really have to wrestle with the reed to keep it straight. I figure I’ll just tighten it up and it will conform to the mouthpiece shape.. nope. Because the ligature screws are cheap plastic, the moment you put much torque on them, they start to ‘pop’ and jump out of their grooves. But, horn sounds pretty good. Nothing appears bent on delivery. Pads all line up. I ordered a new mouthpiece so should be good to go…. but still rose colored. Maybe it’ll grow on me. ... show more

    • Unboxing review - a problem immediately

This is an initial impression review after unboxing. The reason for this early review is I am already dealing with a major issue. The color combination delivered is different from the combination I ordered. The color combination delivered would have been my 2nd or 3rd choice so it is not a totally unacceptable color combination for my intended use. So after careful consideration, I have decided to keep the wrong color sax. One reason for keeping it is…. Upon initial inspection, the sax finish and mechanisms look to be in good condition with proper function. That is a little surprising because the sax came in its soft case which was packaged in a larger cardboard box with no bubble wrap or packing material around the case. So the case flopped around inside the cardboard box anytime the box was picked up and moved. So having this sax in good condition is ok vs returning it and hoping the correct color replacement arrived undamaged. All the accessory items came as advertised plus a tube of cork grease which is not in the list of things in the kit. I will update this review after I set up the sax carefully, do a detailed inspection., and play it for awhile. In summary, except for the color error and careless Amazon packaging, the item initially seems to be a good quality, high value product. ... show more

Bought for my son, thought it would get him through at least middle school band. First we got the wrong color sent, but he decided to keep it either way. He has practiced this summer with it at home but took it to school where the band teacher said it wasn’t playing correctly. Took it to a local instrument repair when I was told they are unable to repair it. Now stuck paying $190 a month to the schools contracted instrument shop to pay off a 3 grand instrument since I don’t have time to shop around for a quality used instrument.
