  • Perfect for my needs.
Color: Blue
The tuning is very good! That was my main purpose, to find the exact pitch for chanting vowel sounds. You will see in my photo that I made my own chart. This has worked great. My granddaughter played with it and sounded wonderful, and she doesn't know how to play! You can play it softly or louder, but the sound is never is never irritating. ... show more

  • It's like being in elementary scool music class!
Color: Pink
This is like a throwback to my childhood. We all fought over who got to play the xylophone in grade school. We didn't have the cool pink case but it still brings back those memories! I can't play the thing any better than I did in 5th grade either, but I do think the plastic case and mallots are not doing the sound any favors! I don't know how much of a price difference there would be for a wood case & mallots but I remember the sound from those being so much more mellow and musical. This set is fine for littles though so indulge those feelings of nostalgia and splurge on a totally unnecessary purchase! ... show more

  • Not a bad xylophone for non-pros
Color: Blue
This xylophone is clearly designed for use by children. It only has 25 notes and is housed in a brightly colored plastic case. It is attached to this case, so you have to play it just as you see in the photos. Plan to dedicate a little extra space for the lid! The keys are embossed with their notes and are color coded. Most of the keys sound really good, but there are a couple that sounded a little off. The strikers that come with the instrument are plastic, but they have a good weight and work fine. The case latch is a little finicky. It takes a bit of effort to get the lid open, but at least it doesn't fall open on its own! Overall, this is a fun little xylophone for kids, beginners or anyone who just wants to play. But this is certainly not a professional instrument. ... show more

  • Good for learning notes while you play
Color: Blue
The media could not be loaded. I like the bright color of the keys and the note names imprinted on them. This would be good for matching the note names with the sounds they make. I also like that it comes in a very sturdy case. The case has air slots on the bottom for amplifying the sounds, and fold down feet to allow the air and sound to come from the bottom of the instrument. The keys and the case both seem made of decent materials. The sticks are a little light and would probably make a better sound if they were made of a heavier substance. My husband tested the notes against piano key sounds and found that they were, for the most part, true tones. It might make a difference if they are flat on a table or in your lap when you play. The case has a good carrying handle for portability. ... show more

  • So much fun
Color: Pink
So far my grand daughter loves this. She's able to make music in her own style and she has to show me all the time. I like that the keys have the notes on them A,B,C,D,E,F,G and for us, we are a musical family so getting her interested early is gonna help inspire her later on.

  • On key, sturdy
Color: Pink
My daughter loves this xylophone. None of the keys are off key or out of tune, and overall it holds up to her banging away very well. The case is sturdy, though the button is a little tricky for her (at just 3) to open, so may need help if child is little.

  • For $24, this deserves 5 stars
Color: Blue
Have "played" glockenspiels my whole, long life, but must admit, 99.99% were made for children use. Everyone knows the type, thin metal, tinny sounding, but mostly just obnoxious. Still, they were all fun, at least for the person using them. This glockenspiel (love typing that word, bet I haven't ever typed it before in my life) is an improvement over any of those I've dinked with before. No one is going to confuse it with a professional instrument, but we aren't spending that kind of money. It sounds better, has a nice (still not very useful) range of notes, and comes with a case that makes it easy to store and carry around. No troubles for me or my granddaughter to open or shut the case. Mallets seem to be just the right hardness. As far as the notes being correctly tuned, well, you will have to ask someone else about that, I am unable to discern any problems. I just feel good about not hitting wrong notes, well, more accurately, hitting the notes I want. With that in mind, I wish the keys (if that is what they are called), were twice as wide! Would make a nice gift for any young child, certainly a step up over most children's glockenspiels. And now I am probably done typing glockenspiel, doubt I ever have need of doing so again. Makes me a little sad. ... show more

  • Pins come out and are sharp
Color: Blue
The sound on the xylophone is really nice and smooth, and my kids ages nine and seven have enjoyed playing it. The carrying case is bonus as well. However, my oldest child removed some of the pins that hold the metal plates in place and they are very sharp. So unfortunately, they are not glued or riveted in place and will come apart. So be careful when using this around kids that tend to be more curious or like to disassemble things! Definitely gave us a scare! ... show more
