  • Great Linux plug-n-play compatibility. Lightweight. Works well. Small design flaw.
Color: watercolor
I tried a few other controllers found here on Amazon including the Gamesir T4 Kaleid and FORTY4 Wireless Gaming Controller. The Gamesir T4 is a nice controller but requires a newer Linux kernel (6.6+ ?) to be recognized. This takes several distributions out of the running including Debian 12 (which I run). You might be OK on a "rolling release" distro though. The FORTY4, which looks like it uses the same USB receiver as the EasySMX 9110, would only work right when connected via USB cable. All attempts at a wireless connection were detected as a Nintendo Switch and changing the "mode" did nothing to help. I mention all this to say that the SMX ESM-9110 (this controller) connected perfectly to everything I plugged it in to, the first time. This includes 2 different Linux (Debian 12) machines and my Steam Deck. A real plus on compatibility! As for the controller itself, it's really quite good! It looks great, feels comfortable, is lightweight, and works well. The sticks have a little more "throw" to them over an XBox controller and the stick springs are a little more tight. The sticks are smooth though, even at the extent. The stick buttons have a good feel to them so you know you've pressed them. The ABXY and D-pad buttons are membrane types. This works well for the ABXY buttons but not so much for the D-pad. The D-pad works OK, it just feels a bit "sloppy". All the other buttons on the controller are mechanical types with a short press, much like an XBox controller's D-pad feel. The LED lights are a nice touch. USB charging is good and battery runtime is long. Besides the sloppy D-pad buttons there is one design flaw I have found. The "Back" and "Turbo" buttons are too close to the left stick to access easily. You have to curve your thumb around the left stick in an awkward way to hit either button properly. While this might not be a big deal for the "Turbo" button, this can be a real PIA on games that use the "Back" (the view button on the XBox controller) button a lot. It's a good controller out of the box. If it lasts several years without issues, could be a REALLY good controller! Cheers and good luck! ... show more

  • Feels cheap, but works marvelously.
Color: Black
I bought this to replace an official Xbox 360 controller. The cord was getting annoying, one of the numpad keys was acting up, and the USB connector had troubles connecting, so I needed a new one and decided why not just go wireless. Glad I did. Looked for a cheap wireless controller under $40. This one for $35 fit perfectly. When I first got it, the LB button didn't work. I opened it up to see if it was something I could easily fix, but it was likely missing a spring so there wasn't much I could do about it. That's fine. One can expect to get a broken product every now and then when buying this sort of thing. Returned it via amazon, got a new one the next day, and it works marvelously. I've been using it for 2 weeks so far to play some rougelite games. Moonlighter, Lost Castle, and Rouge Legacy. Works wonderfully. It takes a couple of seconds to pair to the adapter the first time, but after you pair it, it connects instantly. As for battery life, I literally just finished the first power cycle. It just now died and is charging. I got around 48 hours of use out of it, though it's worth noting that I was primarily playing Moonlighter during that time and it doesn't use rumble very often. I imagine the battery life would be significantly shorter for a game that uses rumble more. The main issue is the build quality. It feels super cheaply made compared to the XBox 360 controller I replaced Another VERY minor complaint is there's no visual or tactile indicator on the adapter so you can tell from a glance or a touch which way to insert it. Like how your charging cable has a USB symbol on the top. It's no big deal and I just put a sticker on the top side as an indicator. All in all, this is a fantastic wireless gamepad for the price. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Auto-features are broken in this thing and it burns out it's motors.
Color: Black
What a hot mess. The controller randomly decided to switch on its vibration motors and I could only turn them off by clicking into the menu. This devoured battery, in addition to being annoying. But it gets better. When it randomly decided to do this, pressing either R2 or L2 would increase the vibration with no way to decrease it. Finally today it decided that even the menu button would not stop the endless motor burn, and since you can't turn off the controller (really??) there's no way to stop it. Those motors are going to fry themselves out fast. Returning this junk to Amazon. ... show more

  • Does work on Android TV
Color: Black
I made the mistake of reading about how to set this up to work with Android TV (Google), before trying just because I was not sure where my TV manual was. For the life of me I could not find the setting on my TV to set up a peripheral device besides Bluetooth, which this device doesn't require as it has its own dongle. Now maybe this was for a prior iteration of Smart TVs hence why I could not even find what they were referencing. So I decided to ignore those websites and treat my TV like any other Android device. Plug in the dongle, make sure the controller is set to Android, which according to the manual is when the lighted buttons 3 and 4 (bottom two lights of the home button) are active. Just hold the home button for 5 seconds each time to change the setting. Well, after the controller was in Android mode, I accidently touched a button on the controller and noticed my TV responding to button clicks. I assumed that the controller was now correctly paired and decided to test a game. I did check the settings on the game first using the TV remote to select the input for the game (one game had to change from touch to button, others might say controller) and voila! Turned out to be as easy as pie as with other Android devices! I don't know why some people have to complicate things by talking about game emulators and peripheral inputs. My experience turned out to be plug and play like PC. If the game is not compatible, that's when all the other advise might come into play. ... show more
