Description

The early grow system’s usefulness to experienced gardeners is further enhanced by the addition of sought after vented height Extenders which allow the young plants to mature in a controlled environment during early development. These same Extenders offer a great solution for direct sewn seed in outside seed beads early in the growing season providing a Green house effect while protecting the plant from cold mornings and inclement weather as they first emerge. I have been searching for a sturdy propagator for a while and they are all very expensive. I was glad to find this one priced at around $33. That is a great deal considering this hard plastic will last a long time. Here are some notes. Pros: -Great price -Sturdy plastic will last a while -Vents and ability to adjust Cons: -Missing a nut, so I can't put one screw in -Little to no instructions whatsoever. Basically had to guess how all the pieces fit together. I had to re-do the extender pieces several times until I could get everything fitted together properly. This could be easily avoided by including some detailed instructions. -One of the vents didn't fit into it's hole properly so I had to tape it basically making it useless. -The tray was a bit smaller than expected, but the height is really what I was looking for. ... show more

    • This one is great for fruiting mushrooms.

The size is perfect for small casings. The adjustable air holes are a bit cheap and one of them is always popping off. However, it gets the job done. The only thing I would like to see is a way to easily insert a filter for stuff like mushrooms while still be able to adjust the air holes. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve dropped the top lid inside. A handle on top to easily open the lid for water spritzing would be nice. I’d like to try this with mint eventually. If the lid slips and falls at an angle, that can damage seedlings. It can also contaminate mushrooms. In both cases it can lead to uneven or inconsistent watering. ... show more

High quality humidity dome, to be frank there is countless options for humidity domes, however the vast majority of them are made extremely cheaply yet still cost $7-$10. They don't last too long, and are very disposable. This however is not one of them, the plastic is firm, and durable. It should last many years, and compared to what you would spend over the same period of time with the cheaply made options it really isn't that unreasonable of a price. 2-3 should come out to roughly the same price, while not heavy you don't have to worry about the lid on this flying off due to a light gust, it holds it's shape since its durable plastic, and all around very solid. My unit hasn't warped in the 2-3 months I've used it while semi sunlight here in southern Mississippi. ... show more

    • Serious Warping on Two Units - Returned, buying replacements

UPDATE: I returned the two warped units and am buying two more this year. It's a brilliant system and I count on receiving perfect units this time. What a thrill to receive 3 Early Grow Domed seed propagators. all with extensions! I spent a great deal of time carefully planting seeds, then placed the domes on with satisfaction, setting the extenders aside until the plants grow high enough to benefit from them. This was a sizable investment for my first time at using such devices with a heat pad, larger under tray and grow light stand. I felt like I was going first class in this endeavor to bring a healthy activity inside during the Covid crisis. What better way to enhance the morning mood than noting the daily plant growth! I've photographed all three units to make my points regarding tray warping. Two show air space between the tray and the domed cover. One shows a properly fitting lid. The last order was for two units; the first order was for one. How can I return the faulty units when my seedling space sits in the heat stream from my pellet stove and I spent money to protect the seedlings! In the future they will move to a 2' x 4' built in unit I'm building just for this purpose. I want to use the whole system for sprouting seeds for a good part of the year, for later plantings of some plants, and for sprouting wheat grass for Winter use, etc. The plant stand, bought separately from another company will be utilized along with these units to also start houseplants. Please rectify this problem of my receiving defective items. Now I see no way to add the photos. I'll try dragging. It appears that the company is sending replacement trays, but that they were sent to the wrong town, wrong ZIP code. I found and emailed the company but they are too busy during the planting season to reply, and only 2 plants survived. Now it's too late to return this. ... show more

I recently became interested in propagating passionflowers. I had been trying to root cuttings using the ziplock bag method, but it required too much space, was hard to maintain, and was not producing results. I chose this propagator for the extra height provided by the extensions, which is necessary for the longer length of cuttings recommended for passionflowers. I received it and set it up a week ago along with a seed warming mat. There are no instructions, but I figured it out as assembly became pretty clear once looking at the parts. I transplanted all my cuttings from the ziplocks into small pots. I only found roots on a couple cuttings. Today I checked my cuttings for signs of roots and found almost all of them had rooted! One is almost ready to be planted, and a week ago I didn't notice any roots at all when I switched it to the dome. While I did change the growing medium when switching from bag to dome, I am pretty sure it's the dome + heating mat that gave these cuttings what they needed to root. I'm really psyched! I also really like how much I can fit in this little dome though it takes up very little room. It is much tidier and way more attractive than ziplock bags. It's essentially a little greenhouse/terrarium that stays very humid inside while still allowing enough air flow to prevent mold. I keep a puddle of water on the bottom of the dome which allows the plant containers to soak it up as needed, and induces root growth. My dome did not have any warping and maintains humidity very well. With the heating mat on, I can take off the lid for a while, put it back on, and condensation will appear again within 30 minutes.
