  • Very effective cooling, high quality and easy to maintain
Excellent coffee bean cooler! I roast with a Quest M3s; this machine cools the beans much faster, with much less bean stirring, than using Quest's setup of putting the drop box into the back fan compartment. It also simplifies the process of doing multiple roasts, one after the other. I compared this Dyvee machine to the Jiawanshun cooler. I was biased toward the Jiawanshun because of the separate chaff tray, but there was really no comparison. The Dyvee is solid, fan is much more powerful, tray looks like it is made of stainless steel, like the Quest roaster, and a surprising amount of chaff is left sitting on top of the lower screen, easily vacuumed off. The Jiawanshun is not stainless, the trays fit tightly together (difficult to separate), and the fan was surprisingly gutless. Note that the Dyvee fan is an easily replaceable 120x120x38mm computer fan (FF12038H12B). I can't confirm that it is really 240CFM, as I can't find the brand of this fan for sale online. Note also that the air flow was greatly increased by cutting a hole in the surface underneath the fan (see photo). I generally avoid Chinese products on Amazon, as they are often cheap junk. Of the many Amazon purchases I have made, this is my first review. Great product! ... show more

  • Very efficient
It would be nicer if the sides were a bit higher, as others have pointed out, but it does great job of cooling the beans fast, and pulling out the chaff. It's really a 4-1/2 because of the price and the size, but it's very well made and cools 8 oz of beans in less than 60 seconds, so I'm rounding up. ... show more

  • Well-designed cooler!
This cooler really changed the game in my bean roasting setup. I use the fresh roast Tower style roaster and am now able to skip the cooling cycle by dumping these direct on the bean cooler after the roast. The integrated fan creates downward wind that sucks the heat from the beans pushing it out below. A fine mesh below the basket keeps any chaff or debris from getting into the fan. I cool 8 to 10 oz of beans with no issue at all. My only complaint is the power brick which has the prongs oriented such that I have to use an extension cord when I'm outside. It would be nice if they could use a more standard power brick or integrated into the base allowing a normal cord to the outlet. Otherwise this is a purchase well worth the cost if you're looking to up your roast game. ... show more

  • Cools brand quickly
It’s a simple design: a muffin fan mounted in a stand with a screened basket sitting above. It works well, cooling a half pound of freshly roasted coffee beans in under a minute. I use it with my Gene Cafe that cools more slowly and therefore makes it difficult to halt the roasting immediately when I want to. Need to pull the plug on the Gene to access the beans before the cooling begins. The product is an effective solution, but it seems overpriced. Also there are no rubber feet; the feet are simply sheet metal extensions off of the frame. ... show more

  • Cools beans in a minute flat
The good: This imparts so much more flavor in the beans when they cool rapidly. This things cools very fast, like less than a minute to outside temp. Awesome. The metal body of the cooler is nice quality and appears to be powder coated? Bean tray is also higher quality. Overall I’m impressed with the build quality of it, definitely better than I was expecting. Has handled larger batches, so far I’ve run 400g batches through it and still had a little room in the top for more beans. Should be able to do a pound (453g). The bad: so weird, and the only reason it didn’t get 5 stars from me- the fan blades hit the edge of the interior of the fan surround and made a terrible sound. I took the guard off and sanded down the plastic body responsible for contacting the blades and no more problem. The chaff from the beans slows air flow at the inlet to the fan, seems like if there was another screen before it would work better. I’ll update with longevity/ reliability as I use it more. ... show more

  • NOT a Roaster. It Cools Roasted Beans & Collects Chaff
For cooling beans this works very effectively. It's chief value, though, is in collecting the chaff that beans release when roasted. It's certainly worth a quarter of what I paid. The amount I paid is, IMO, a lot to pay for a device to do no more than cool roasted beans and collect chaff. Because the was sized and priced as a roaster, I was expecting it to roast coffee, too. If you roast beans in a robust way, you probably do not need this machine to cool the beans. Place half a pound of beans in a single layer on a half sheet that has been covered with a silicone mat. Roast in a preheated (convection) oven at 425ºF for 20 to 25 minutes. Increase temperature to 475ºF and roast for 10 to 20 minutes more, checking frequently during the last ten. Don't roast longer than 45 minutes. A technical flashlight is useful for viewing the beans without affecting the oven temperature. This machine provides an effective way to collect the second half of the chaff that falls from roasted beans. The roasting method above did the first half of that. The chaff sticks nicely to a silicone mat and to any silicone intstruments used to stir the beans. This machine has absolutely no effect on flavor of beans if a person is using a robust roasting method. Listing "Flavor" as a quality for this device is like listing "Flavor" for a device designed to put out toaster fires while the toast is inside. If you use the toaster correctly, this theoretical device would never affect the flavor of the toast. ... show more

  • Works very well but needs two improvements.
I roast 13 to 14 ounces at a time. The beans are cool to touch in around a minute, with some agitation. 1. The bean screen walls should be about an inch taller. Even with gentle agitation, beans may easily be kicked out. 2. The base stands (three curves extending out of the bottom metal) need to be at least a half inch taller. The fan exhausts about a quarter inch from whatever surface the cooler is sitting on. This really heats up the surface and the surrounding base. Other than those, this item is great and a huge addition to my sifter/heat gun roasting. ... show more
