I don't have a wrench but other tools and used pliers to twist the screw. I like this design because all the others had a end piece that had to go over the corner of opposite sides. I have a hinge there. With this you can put the connector anywhere near the top. The cable holders are hard to put on without another pair of hands so I used cable ties to hold until I screwed them on. I also didn't cut the cable I just made a loop. It's sturdy and raised the gate at least 2". ... show more

Installed on a sagging gate and the kit is working as described. Screwing in the hardware was harder than it needed to be - the self-tapping screws have flat hexagonal heads, and I was too impatient to find the wrench that fit them exactly so I used an adjustable crescent wrench, which turned out to be a big pain. If I were doing it over again I'd just substitute wood screws of the same thickness that could be driven with a normal screwdriver instead of messing around with a wrench. I did drill pilot holes for the screws beforehand. Anyway, the gate has been holding up for a few days now. Will update the review if the cable kit fails. ... show more

First of all I selected a product made in the USA to make sure the parts were more sturdy. I am happy I picked the black cable as it blends it pretty well with our old gate. My husband had the proper tools in regards to tightening the little bolts/screws so it went well with time and installation. The gate closes easy now and does not scrape on the ground. We are happy. I assumed this would be poor quality, but all the hardware is very well made and heavy duty. Worked perfectly to straighten my 5 foot tall gate. A very sharp wire cutter is needed to get through the steel cable.

Ease of installation was a breeze. It’s pretty straightforward. A simple screw and nut driver will get the job done. The quality seems nice. So far it has held up well in the Texas sun (3 months). You can adjust the tension by twisting the turnbuckle. I suggest starting with the eyelets set to the farthest setting so you have more threads to turn the buckle ti add tension. As time goes by, it’s most likely you’ll need to add tension and not release tension. I may need to readjust the cable clamps because my eyelets are screwed in almost entirely into the turnbuckle. We purchased two of these to put on the 6' double gates. When the first package was opened, it was missing a screw. We had a shorter one that would do until a replacement could be received and put that one on the gate least likely to be opened. After putting both in place and finding they work as intended, I contacted Hillmaster through Amazon and that evening received a message back asking where to mail the replacement package. Unfortunately products and service like that aren't the norm any more. UPDATE: After sending the Hillmaster the address - a Friday - the replacement arrived via Amazon late Sunday evening and wasn't just the screw, or a packet with the small items to put the cable in place but a complete replacement - cable and all. That kind of service can't be beat!! ... show more
