  • like a non-oil based WD-40 all purpose spray
Size: 11 oz Aerosol
I was confused by all the different non-oil lubricating sprays available, so I purchased a variety and tested them out to compare them against one another. I found that they all have different properties and are best suited for different applications. My testing was simple. I sprayed all the lubricants for an equal amount of time over an equal area of aluminum foil. I then monitored them all over a period of a week indoors at an ambient temperature of around 20C. Then I applied 100 grams of force to each test area and subjectively assessed the amount of reduced friction. (see photos) DuPont Silicone Surface Safe Lubricant. This contains silicone, Teflon, and ceramic boron. It remained fully liquid, thin, and runny even after a week. This seems ideal in situation where you have parts that require a liquid lubricant such as bearings, etc. Best to use this in situations where you would usually use oil, but when you cannot use oil-based products. DuPont Chain-Saver Dry Lubricant. This is a molybdenum and Teflon wax-based lubricant. This remained fully liquid, very thick and waxy after a week. This is formulated for bike chains, and I can see why. Ideal for mechanical parts that must engage and disengage repetitively. Another possible use might be for zippers or similar fasteners. DuPont Multi-Use High-Performance Lubricant. This contains Teflon and silicone. This is essentially a compromise between all the other lubricant sprays. It stays liquid and wet after a week, but is not a lubricating as the others, not as non-stick as the others, and not as friction-reducing as the others. If you can only have one bottle of non-oil lubricant spray, this is a good choice, but it is not the best at any one thing. Basically, like the WD-40 of silicone sprays. Super Lube 91110 Silicone Spray. After a week, leaves a very thin, nearly dry surface, incredibly slippery with the best friction-reducing properties of all the sprays I tried. Wonderful! Also, this is H1 food grade safe (ok for use in equipment used in contact with food). If you need to reduce friction on long rail and track mechanisms with minimal tackiness that might attract dust, this seems ideal! Super Lube 11016 Dri-Film Lubricant. After a week, leaves a dry surface, rather slippery in reducing friction and rather non-stick. This is also H1 food grade safe (ok for use in equipment used in contact with food). If you must have a fully dry film lubricant, this is my favorite! DuPont Non-Stick Dry-Film Lubricant. After a week, leaves a dry opaque white film. Not really slippery or lubricating against friction, but entirely non-stick. Essentially like Teflon PTFE in a can. In situations where you want a non-stick coating like PTFE, but using Teflon tape, etc. is not an option, this seems like an excellent choice. ... show more

  • Great product for garage doors
Size: 11 oz Aerosol
I continue to use this every couple months on the moving parts of my garage door - I can really tell that it keeps it operating smoothly

  • Works okay
Size: 11 oz Aerosol
Expensive. Would have to weigh that against other products that are dry lubricants

  • This stuff lasts
Size: 11 oz Aerosol
This spray was first used when I needed to ice freeze proof my truck door seals a few winters ago. It was the closest can so I gave the rubber seal around the doors a good shot. I realized last winter that the stuff is still working and a lot of others don't hold up. I actually forgot about this stuff but get reminded since it dries white against the black rubbery seals. That does not bother me but it does remind me that the stuff is there and white and still working. I gave the hinges and hold open mechanisms a shot also and the stuff is still working also some years later. The truck is 25 years old and the hinges have squeaked off and on since I bought it 16 years ago. They don't now. I don't remember why I originally got this stuff, but I'm glad I did. It works. ... show more

  • Excellent for Slow Moving, Metal Parts but Smell is Strong
Size: 11 oz Aerosol
On the advice of a friend I ordered Dupont Multi-Use Lubricant for our two car garage door. I applied it to the olnges, slides, rollers and chain. Since then the door has worked noticeably smoother and with less noise. I also applied it to the springs and there has been no rust and no dust buildup after several months. Before getting this product I had been using an aerosol which was labeled exclusively for use on garage doors. It did not work as well as Dupont's Multi-Use right after application and it did not last as long as Dupont's has so far. The only thing I don't like about it is the smell which resembles shoe polish but stronger and lingers for a long time. For that reason I find myself conflicted about using it in the house. UPDATE July/23/2012:-- I find myself using Dupont's Multi Use Lubricant in the garage on many more things than the garage door; Especially garden tools. It sprays on wet and takes a minute or two for the solvent to evaporate. What's left is a soft, waxy film that is drier than liquid oils and attracts no dust! It protects well against rust. I'm sufficiently impressed with the performance of this stuff by now, to change my rating to five stars. I seem to have got used to the smell enough so that it hardly bothers me anymore. ... show more

  • So Far, Good
Size: 11 oz Aerosol
Apparently not actually made by Dupont (as with several big brands nowadays, the manufacturer brought a license), but for the garage door it seems to work well. Not too stinky or messy either. Hopefully it'll last awhile.
