To legally fly a drone at night, a strobing light that can be seen from at least 3 statute miles away is required. I am a Part 107 licensed UAS pilot, and have a DJI Mini 2. As with most small (sub-250g) drones, no regulation-compliant lighting is included. I had previously purchased a Firehouse Arc V5 strobe light for my drone, but the VIFLY strobe is very small, light, powerful, and has multiple light colors and patterns, so I will primarily be comparing this light to the Firehouse Arc V. Here are my thoughts. What you get: - The light itself - A short USB-A to USB-C charging cable - A small piece of self adhesive 3M velcro. - The product manual - A "thank you" card from VIFLY - The plastic carrying case First impressions: This thing is SMALL. As you can see from my photos, this light is noticeably smaller than the Arc V. I also noticed immediately that the light is sealed in a clear, heat-shrink style plastic that is open on both ends. Both of those facts made me question whether this was going to be a quality item, but those concerns were very quickly put to rest. Pros: - Size/weight. This light is small and light. It was clearly optimized to save on weight. The light itself is only 6.5g, and with the included velcro it is 6.8g. Slightly more than half the weight of the Arc V (13.8g.) - The options for color and light patterns. My Arc V only has two colors (white and red) with limited strobe patterns. The VIFLY Platinum has 4 colors (white, red, green, and blue) and the following patterns can be selected by short-pressing the button through each color mode: - fast strobe (quick double blinks) - slow blink - solid Note: After the "green" mode, it appears that the light mode includes all LEDs, so you get a combination of white, red, green and blue. I couldn't tell if it was substantially brighter, but I assume it does add some amount of brightness, but perhaps at some negligible cost to battery life. - Brightness. The law requires the light to be visible from 3 miles away, and while I will never try to test this by flying my drone 3 miles away, I feel safe saying this is bright enough to meet the requirement. (I couldn't look at the light directly even in broad daylight without blowing out my vision so it's plenty bright. This means you will definitely need to be careful when operating this at night so as not to blow out your night vision while operating your drone.) - Battery. The 180mAh battery is listed as lasting 4 hours on a single charge, which is plenty for most of us, even with several extra batteries, etc. - Cost. You simply cannot beat this price point for a strobe of this capability, flexibility, and size/weight. This is a must-have, and a slam dunk for nighttime drone operations. Cons: - The light is not "sealed". As noted, the light is covered with a clear heat-shrink plastic, which leaves both ends open to the air, with plenty of gap for water or dust/dirt to get inside. Most drone operators likely don't fly in conditions wet/dusty enough for this to matter, especially at night, but if you fly low over saltwater or in dusty conditions, this might be an issue. In comparison, my Arc V comes in a fairly well-sealed plastic housing, with a rubber cover for the charging port. I do think including an easily removable rubber plug for the USB-C charging port, and figuring out a way to seal the heat shrink a bit better would be a nice upgrade to this light. I'm sure this was designed to minimize weight, and this slight-drawback is not an issue in most typical scenarios. This drone light is a 5/5 for me. If you have a larger drone and don't already have built-in position lighting, this would be a great solution to add two or more so you could have constant solid color lights to help determine orientation, plus one or more strobing lights to increase LOS visibility. If you own a drone and ever want to fly at night, definitely buy this light. ... show more

I like this VIFLY Strobe Platinum for Drone. It is very small and light, yet I think it is as bright as my Firehouse Arc V light. Because of the very small-form factor, I was able to mount it directly to the back of my Mavic Air 2, without interfering with the rear-facing sensors (see pic). I especially like the availability of four colors (one at a time) as well as the three different patterns for each (quick strobe, flashing, and steady on). With my Arc V on the front, and the VIFLY on the back, I can easily determine the orientation of the drone by either the color, or the flashing pattern of the light. This can be very helpful. I wondered if this light might be helpful in keeping the drone in sight at a distance during the day, but only found it useful up to about 500’ distant on a cloudy day. I think the light will be much more useful at dusk or dark. One thing I was somewhat disappointed in was the run-time on a charge. When using the ‘flashing’ mode (more easily visible in daylight than the quick-strobe), the battery runs out at around 40 minutes. This is far short of a full flying session with three drone batteries. They quote a runtime of about 4 hours (on the quick-strobe mode), but when I tested it with white quick-strobe, it ran out at about 3:15. Perhaps one of the colored strobe modes would last longer, since they use just one LED, whereas the white strobe uses all 3 white LEDs. Knowing what to expect is helpful. All in all, I really like this light. The short runtime is due to the small size, I am sure. However, I would have appreciated more transparency about the run-time to expect at each mode. ... show more

Another winner from VIFLY in my book! I have been using their GPS Mates on all of my long range Drones and Wings for years, I have yet to have one fail. Their easy to use Platinum Super Bright Anti Collision Light makes it a whole lot easier to see my models - I'm getting up there in years making this a wonderful choice for me, especially when flying in a group formation. Using Velcro makes the VIFLY Strobe easily swappable too. The current 2024 FAA Rules requires "clear line of sight" - Long Range Recon Flights using a Spotter & Goggles with the VIFLY Strobe Light Module makes it a whole lot easier to see my Drone or Wing from a distance. The lightweight VIFLY strobe has multiple settings for light output allowing several aircraft to fly using the different light color choice outputs from fast to slow & fixed to identify your aircraft. It remembers your last setting when power is cycled on & off, battery swaps and getting back in the air isn't hampered by having to reset the Strobe. I gave the VIFLY Platinum Strobe Anti Collision Light a Full Five Star Rating Across the Board.
