  • It's big, it's well built, and it works!
I've been getting into Texas BBQ and been bragging to my brother in Canada. And he has been begging me to show him. So I decided to bring my own meat since briskets are hard to find and other meats usually way more expensive in Canada. I buy mine in bulk and I had already everything I needed, thus needing a big cooler! We bought this Driftsun 110Qt cooler by default. The Yeti I wanted was back order. The other brands I knew were back order as well. And my trip was approaching quickly and I needed a cooler! My wife did some research and found the Driftsun so we ordered it. I pre-cooled the Driftsun by bringing it into the house 2 days before the trip. The night before, I put two bags of ice in the cooler. The morning of the trip, I moved the cooler into the truck and started packing: 1 frozen 15 lbs full packer brisket 1 unfrozen 14 lbs full packer brisket 2 frozen beef tenderloins 8 frozen short beef ribs (you know the brontosaurus looking kind!) 4 frozen pork rib slabs 4 packs of frozen wings I added ice as I was packing and topped it off with more ice. I didn't count how many bags. I think overall I added 6 or 7 10lbs bags. I also placed 3 temp probes to monitor the temperature. Then I closed the lid, never to reopen until I reached destination. During the trip, the temperature on the 3 probes stayed steady at 28, 29 and 31 degrees. I left at 9am Saturday, arrived at 23:00 Sunday, left the cooler in the vehicle overnight when I arrived. We opened the cooler on Monday around noon. So so roughly 50 hours after I left. When we opened the lid this is what I found. The top ice was still covering the meat. It had seized into more of a block of ice. We literally had to take a hammer to chisel at it. Needless to say that everything was still frozen solid. And I had to use the hammer to keep chiseling and prying the meat out. Not an once of water in the cooler. And remember the unfrozen 14lbs brisket? Well, it froze!!! Came out frozen just like I took it out of my deep freezer. After it was emptied, I left all the ice in the cooler and kept the cooler in my vehicle. On Tuesday I looked inside; there was still no water in the cooler. On Wednesday morning I started to hear some water as I drove around. Not much. On Thursday evening I opened the cooler. It was still loaded with plenty of ice but with lots of water as well. If there were still food in there, it would be totally safe. Today is Friday, I have not looked but I expect more of the ice to be gone. The cooler will be useful on the trip back as well. It will be loaded Canadian favorites! I hope this review will help some make their decision... ... show more

  • Works as a cooler or an outdoor waterproof storage box
I use it as an outdoor storage next to my grill for spices, ziplocs, paper towels and such. The things ya dont want to get wet or have bugs get into and it works very well

  • Good Chest Overall, hard to pull
Used this to keep ice while camping over 4 days in 80 degree weather and it worked well. I just wish the handles were better designed. It can’t be pulled without it hitting you in the calves when full. You need two people to carry it.

  • Great Investment!
It took us a lot to drop so much money on an ice chest..it took having to drive to find stores while camping to fill cheap ice chests with ice 1-2x a day so our stuff would stay cold. I finally did the research and knew we needed to invest in a better ice chest. We were looking at yeti but it would have been the same cost as this ice chest and only half the size of it. The reviews seemed good so we gave this one a shot and we will never buy a cheap ice chest again! This ice chest is amazing. Went camping for 3 days and didn’t need to buy ice once. We are so happy with it! There were some not so happy reviews about the handle for this ice chest..we actually love it and the fact that we can roll ours easily to where it needs to go. It does get heavy when filled so this was an awesome add on for us. We had no problems lifting it into the back of the car or out, it just took one of us on each side and then we rolled it when it was out. Awesome investment! ... show more

  • Alternative to the higher priced coolers
The 45qt Driftsun cooler has more features than the comparable Yeti cooler. While doing research on 45qt. size coolers, Driftsun states the insulation is up to 3” thick. “ Up to “are the key words, Driftsun has a combination of 2.0 / 2.5” of insulation which is a little misleading. Yeti states up to 3” thick also, but later in specifications they mention the insulation is 2.5 inches on their 45qt. cooler. That’s not as misleading. Driftsun cooler is manufactured in China. Unpacking the new cooler I found the left corner bottle opener quite loose. Upon close inspection the screws were loose and also crooked. I called customer service during their business hours. Once in the morning and another day in the afternoon. In the morning the phone rang over 15 times, no answer. Another time the message said they are currently busy and to try on line. I’ll say no more on customer service for Driftsun. I needed the cooler for a trip in two days. Made repairs to the bottle opener. The brass screw bosses installed into the cooler housing were crooked, but alternating the tightening of the two screws that hold the opener down helped to secure it more evenly. Overall it holds ice for days like the others, looks nice, good latches, pressure release knob, double cap drain plug with chain, and $150/$200 less than others in this flooded cooler market. I’ll try to email customer service for a reply. ... show more

  • Amazing. Lasted all week at summer camp.
Amazing cooler. Built it to use with the scouts. Took it to summer camp. Lasted all week in the 90s with only a few pounds of ice here and there because it was extra. I may have to get a second. Last night at camp and it's the coldest cooler compared to the ones with ice added everyday

  • It really works!
We took this camping in 90-100 degree heat and it was in the direct sun for the first half of the day. We camped for 14 days and only needed to get ice 3 times! The original ice that we had put in it was still in there (most of it had melted). But we did have meat (pre-cooked) in there and wanted to be sure it wouldn't go bad. If there was no meat in the cooler we probably would only have got ice once. It is very heavy and definitely needs two people to carry it. It would be nice to have it on wheels somehow so one person can tow it. They would have to be some heavy duty wheels to accommodate they weight. ... show more
