I am so glad I bought this auger! On a Sunday morning our shower drain suddenly became clogged, so I ran to the store and bought baking soda and vinegar in an attempt to unclog it, but it would not budge. Desperate, I ordered this auger and received it by the next morning. It was easy to use right out of the packaging and the hair clog was removed within 10 minutes - just in time to shower and get ready for work (Phew!). I just used the hand crank instead of attaching a drill, and it worked so well. The first time I extended the snake, I did not extend it long enough and it came out empty. The second attempt, I extended it to the maximum length and voila! it brought out a clump of hair that had been blocking the drain. I cleaned off the snake by wiping it down as it coiled back into the casing and stored it away for any future hair monsters. I HIGHLY recommend this auger. It was so much cheaper to try this before having to hire a plumber who would have probably done the same thing. Seriously, every home needs one of these! ... show more

Had a clog in the sink drain bought this unit with high hopes. At first glance it seems of good quality as far as being heavy duty. But as I started using I soon discovered that this was not to be. Though it has a heavy feel to the materials this does not indicate HEAVY DUTY. As I started to use the unit it made some head way, but then began to fail quickly. I then tried to hook to the Drill Chuck. This was useless do to the fact that the gear failed almost immediately. I am older construction worker skilled in most phases of install work (electric, plumbing, concrete, carpentry, painting etc /family biz). I was surprised because I hadn't even used it in the drain yet I was just preparing the unit for use in drain. #1 I then was reduced to use it manually which was no problem I didn't think I was going to use it w/drill chuck. But This unit was sold as either or. #2 As I manually navigated the recesses of my drain I thought HEY wow this this is working. But much to my dismay this was not to be. #3 I soon found that the snake though it did navigate 12' or so, then turned back upon itself. YES! As I was feeding line into the drain I felt resistance and thought it was working. But suddenly I saw the end/front of the line working it's way back to me through the opening I started sending it down. i just lol Final conclusions though this is a solid design it is not to Heavy Duty. I couldn't recommend this unit to my friends. Between the gear slipping ( and I did lower the clutch on my drill ) and the light gauged metal allowing it to turn back to exit it's entrance I would examine other options. ... show more

    • Seller bribes buyer trying to get honest reviews deleted! Product breaks and rusts easily

Update: The seller contacted me, saying they wanted to resolve this, and asked what I'd want. I replied that I'd update my review up from 2 stars if I received a replacement. It's an inexpensive product, and I don't expect it to be perfect. If I buy something that has a problem and the seller stands behind the product, I usually change that to a 5 star review, because I consider customer support at least as important as initial quality. In this case they offered a gift card for $20 (I paid $36.99 for this) but only if I deleted my review first. (I now know that asking a customer to delete a review violates Amazon policies.) When I explained that $20 wouldn't cover the replacement cost (currently $31.97) they offered to increase the gift card to that amount, but still insisted I had to delete my review first. I've never had a seller offer to solve a problem only after an honest review was removed. I'd give it a positive review if they stood behind the product, but they're asking me to remove a review based on a promise that they'll stand behind it after that, and that seems really shady. Further update: Now the seller is emailing and begging, fearing that my review will get them removed from Amazon, since it mentions how they've been trying to get a review removed, in violation of store policies. So they just increased the bribe, offering $50 to delete the review. I can't recommend the product, and the seller is dishonestly manipulating the reviews and ratings. My original 2 star review: The first time I used it this worked fine, and cleared the clog. I didn't find it necessary to connect a drill, but just cranked it by hand. The next time I took it out I found the metal of the snake had rusted every few feet. It seems water pools inside the spool and causes the rust. It still got the job done, and to prevent further rust I unwound the whole length and sprayed it off, then left it coiled outside the drum for weeks to dry fully. When I packed it away in the original box for storage, the bottom of the box broke open and dropped the contents less than three feet to the floor. The knob you use to crank the snake broke off. It's still usable, but only if you connect an electric drill. So it's functional, but if you want it last, treat it like it's made of glass. But glass that rusts if you don't dry it thoroughly after use. ... show more

Solid build. Good instructions. Was able to unclog a drain that was not responding to chemical treatment. One thing about the design. There is this tab screw that you have to rotate each time you want to lock and unlock the snake. You have to do it many times as you push the snake every 6-8 inches into the drain at a time. It would be nicer if there was a clip or switch or rocker, that made it easier to operate. (maybe like tape measures have). ... show more
