    • Excellent razor
This razor far exceeded my expectations. There has been considerable debate as to whether Dovo razors come in "shave-ready" condition. Mine certainly appeared to be mostly there. After some polishing with chromium oxide paste and a fabric strop and then some basic stropping, I used it to cut some 2 day old growth, and it performed admirably. The razor is very hefty, well balanced, and is a delight to use. I also found that the finish is very good. It is certainly a step up from entry level razors - I would heartily recommend it. ... show more

This is an excellent razor. It comes sharp, from the factory, but I wouldn't shave with it out of the box. (Although you can try, if you want! It will cut hair, just not as good as if it were professionally sharpened.) If you aren't good at sharpening straight razors, take this to a professional razor sharpener. Also, make sure you have a good leather strop. If used properly, the strop keeps that edge's microscopic teeth nice and straight, giving a superior shave. (I use a Fromm Razor Strop, made by Illinois Razor Strop Co. model #827) ... show more

One of the best value for the price, the Dovo Bismark does not disappoint.... It came shave ready, and after about 50 passes on the strop, the edge was cutting very comfortably. Since I own it, I shaved with it a few times, and the edge cuts like the first time I used it. I do use a Franz Swaty barber's hone after every shave, and the Bismark maintains its edge every bit as sharp as it was the first time. I highly recommend this straight razor, the quality of workmanship is outstanding. ... show more

Terrible outcome. I paid good money for this straight razor, then quick to find excessive fingerprints a couple rust marks and excessive markings on side. Not sure if buddy was drunk when he honed and packaged it but this is a disgrace. Not happy. This is my 4th dovo and I finally got enough money to get the one I wanted and I'm completely appauled with this item. ... show more

Beautiful razor! I really can't describe how good this razor looks, the pictures don't do it justice. The scales are very lightweight so it's a little awkward to handle at first, but you get used to it. My only gripe is that while it is sharp, and you technically CAN shave with it, it's not sharp enough to provide a comfortable shave. It definitely needs honing out of the box. Still doesn't detract from the wonderful craftsmanship of this razor, I would definitely recommend it to newbies (such as myself) or even people with more experience using a straight razor. ... show more

The quality workmanship in this blade is par none. Very elegantly designed and came pretty much shave ready. A few stropes with compound and leather and it's ready to go. The blade is heavier than 5/8" blade but very controllable. Scales are very well made. If you want a mid-level blade, you can't go wrong with this blade! I always oil my blades after stropping and I know this one will be a heirloom one day. ... show more
