  • Smallish, consistently-sized chips
Compared to other similar products I've used before, I really like this bag of coconut chips. They seem like a good quality, and the size of the pieces is just what I wanted. The chips are smaller than other brands I've used in the past, but not too small. I prefer this size and think it'll be more comfortable for my reptiles than large chunks. The chips in the bag I received were fairly uniform in size, which is nice. I didn't notice any overly large pieces. So far, I'm very pleased with this product. I think it's a good value for the price and I'm glad I ordered it. ... show more

  • Excellent quality coconut chips! Evenly chopped up, super clean, Lots in the bag!
This is a 16 quart bag of coconut chips designed to serve as the substrate for your terrarium. I got this because I was assembling a terrarium for my fancy leopard gecko, as he was growing out of his old enclosure. I was pleasantly surprised at the high quality of this substrate. The coconut is all evenly chopped up, extra clean and uniform. It even smells nice! I don't think my gecko has ever walked across it before and it's giving him something to think about! You get a lot in this bag, much more than I thought! I only used a few handfuls and it filled up the open areas of the 10 gallon tank I have pretty well. I am very happy to have this high quality bag of substrate coconut chips to help keep my little guy happy and healthy! ... show more

  • Not 16qt of product. Chips, strands and dust.
I was expecting approximately 4 gallons worth of product based on the bag being labeled and described as 16qt. You can see the bag compared to a gallon jug of milk. It is maybe 1.5 to 2 gallons of product, at most 8qt. Looking at the description they state, "to fully cover up to 16 quarts of tank or terrarium space" So it appears that the quantity refers to the size of the tank that can be covered with product but they do not state how deep. I really don't understand what 16qt means to them but I can tell you that the bag is about 6-8qt in size. The product itself is a mix of chips, strands and grounds or dust. My bag was moist with condensation. If you do not want grounds or dust you will need to wash this material. If you want dry material and can deal with the grounds and dust you will need to dry it and that may take a while as it is known to hold moisture quite well. I was planning to use this in my toroise terarium but I would have to wash it and i need it dry. It is also not enough to setup the terarium so I am going to have to go with another substrate. I did not find any foreign material like plastics or metal in it. If you are going to use this in your house, with live animals I would recommend baking it to kill off any potential pathogens, mites, etc. If you wash it, drying will take a long time unless you need it moist. ... show more

  • Coconut Bark
I plan on repotting an orchid using this coconut substrate. I was a little bit worried when I first got the bag because I can clearly see moisture inside. I am allergic to mold and I figured it was going to be gross and moldy. It is not that way at all! It has a wonderful, earthy smell. And I’m actually glad that it’s not dry and dusty. I think this is going to be perfect for my orchid. I can imagine that it would be perfect material to use in a reptile cage as advertised. I will not hesitate to use this. It is moist, dark and clean as far as sich an item could be. ... show more

  • This bag is HUGE!!
These Coconut Chips made a HUGE difference the second that I added it to the terrarium that I keep my Praying Mantis in!!!! It helps SO MUCH with the smells that are going to happen with live feeding (cricket legs, and other body parts), and of course the fact that they use the bathroom in their environment LOL. I think this is a super great deal, I love how chunky the chips are, this stuff is WAAYYYY better than a compressed brick that you have to add water to and break apart!! 💯 I highly Recommend this Product, especially with the price of just $15 currently, I'm not even kidding, the bag is BIG!! I hope My Review has been Helpful!! 😊👍 ... show more

  • The lizards and snake seem to like it!
This is a large bag of coconut chips that you use to line the bottom of your reptile tanks. The lizards and snakes seem to like it so I'm happy. It is a mix of different sized chips but I had no issue with it. They all seem to work fine.

  • Soft, but not evenly sized.
I was actually surprised when I opened this how soft the pieces are. The bummer was that it's so unevenly sized. There are a lot of nicely sized small flakes, but then some huge pieces. I think I should be able to break those pieces up, but I wish they were all more evenly sized. The bag is pretty big, so it seems like a good price for the size bag. ... show more

  • Awesome coco
This is great, high quality coco chunk substrate. The chunks of coco are the perfect size to use in a small animal habitat or terrarium, typically around penny to nickle sized. It's a fantastic material that holds moisture, become very spongy in texture, without being soaking wet. It has no nutrients in it so does not tend to grow mold and will not breakdown over time. I love it and put it in as many of my tanks as I can. ... show more
