  • If you don't know DJI, you're living under a rock!
Style: DJI RS 4 Pro Combo
The DJI RS 4 Pro Combo is a powerhouse for any cinematographer, especially when tackling live band shoots and diverse shooting environments. Here’s a detailed look at its performance from a cinematography perspective as someone who shoots live events a lot: Detailed Analysis: The RS 4 Pro Combo shines in dynamic shooting scenarios like live band performances. Its 3-axis gimbal stabilizer ensures smooth, cinematic shots even amidst the movement and energy of a live show. With a payload capacity of 4.5kg (10lbs), it comfortably supports a range of DSLR and cinema cameras, offering versatility for different setups. The native vertical shooting feature is a standout, allowing for easy transitions between landscape and portrait orientations without needing to reposition the camera. This is especially useful for social media content where vertical videos are increasingly popular. The inclusion of the Image Transmitter is a significant advantage. I honestly do not use it often, but I reviewed it to verify functionality. It actually works super easy and is just a nice addition to the kit. It allows you to monitor and control your shots remotely, which is invaluable when you’re capturing fast-paced live events or need to keep your focus on the action while adjusting camera settings from a distance. I see this being incredibly useful for podcasts, talking head content, social media, and solo users. The Focus Pro Motor adds another layer of precision, enabling smooth and accurate focus adjustments. This is crucial during live shoots where focus can shift rapidly due to changing scenes and lighting conditions. This is not unique to DJI, but it feels veeeerrryy smooth with really good feedback on the Focus Pro hand unit. Pros: • Smooth Stabilization: Excellent 3-axis stabilization keeps footage steady, even in high-movement situations like live band shoots. • High Payload Capacity: Supports up to 4.5kg (10lbs), accommodating a variety of camera setups. • Native Vertical Shooting: Allows for quick and seamless switching between landscape and portrait modes. • Image Transmitter: Enables remote monitoring and control, perfect for live events and dynamic shooting environments. • Focus Pro Motor: Provides precise and smooth focus adjustments, enhancing control during fast-paced shoots. Cons: • Bulkiness: The gimbal can be bulky, which might be cumbersome in tight or crowded environments. • Learning Curve: There is a bit of a learning curve to fully utilize all the advanced features, especially for those new to gimbals. • Price: The combo package is on the higher end of the price spectrum, which may be a consideration for prosumers on a budget. Overall, the DJI RS 4 Pro Combo is a top-tier choice for pros, or just prosumers, looking to elevate their cinematography. It delivers exceptional stabilization, versatile shooting options, and advanced features that enhance both control and creativity. While it comes with a few considerations like its bulkiness and price, the benefits it offers make it a worthwhile investment for serious shooters. ... show more

  • VERY capable gimbal but there is a learning curve
Style: DJI RS 2 Combo
Here's how you can avoid the buyers remorse that tends to follow large purchases such as the RS2: - Is it within your budget? (If you can't buy it twice, you can't afford it...and that's okay. Save up until you can). - will you put the needed hours into learning how to use professional grade equipment? If you can answer "yes" to both of these questions with little/no hesitation, then you are in the right space. I purchased the combo and almost a year later, I still haven't taken all of those components out of the pouch as it takes time to really learn the tools that the rs2 combo puts in the hands of the user. That said, let's get to the specifics: The unit I ordered came with a neat pouch that houses all the components in a compact, padded, and zippered environment. Parts are mostly easy to find and maintain as long as you put stuff back. Not a lot of room to store additional things though. The most important skill to gain is how to load your gear unto the gimbal and properly balance it. The muscle memory that this will produce will go a long way. I took notes on the markings for the pan, roll and tilt for all my gear combinations (DSLR + lens combo as well as a mirrorless body + lens). Personally, I went for the RS2 over the rsc2 because my DSLR was the Canon 1DX. This gimbal handled that body with a 24-70 lens with no problem at all. The motors are more than capable of handling the load capacity on the spec sheet however you will damage your product if you skimp on balancing properly for the sake of "time/speed". Practice and put in the time developing a feel for a correctly balanced before a paid gig so when it's "game time" you are able to pivot without making costly + avoidable errors. Battery life is awesome and easy to charge the unit via usb-c. Cons: It was hard to find things not to like but I found two (both are conditional). - if you are switching multiple bodies onto this unit, you'll probably want to stick with the quick release plate that comes with it (or purchase more as needed). I have a whole system of manfroto qr plates which make switching between my gear darn near seamless. Although you can use the manfroto qr plates on this unit, I found certain configurations problematic. Sticking with the included qr plate fixed the issue but added the step of swapping qr plates when done with the gimbal. - If you have a heavier set up, you might find that the rubber grip on the battery chassis starts to buckle a bit. You can easily move that back into place but I legit was pushing the gear to it's extremes at that point to discover this issue. Also, it's not fun holding that much gear up-right for extended periods and therefore holding the unit in briefcase mode might be a slightly better alternative. Pro-tip: when balancing a zoom lens on a gimbal, zoom to about halfway through the focal range and begin balancing the gimbal from there. This helps keep the unit stable even if you were to zoom in/out without needing to rebalance everything. The gimbal itself is quite capable. You are not paying for this product to do the work FOR you. You've actually got to put time into learning how to use a pro-rig. That said, doing so is well worth the quality of video you will begin to produce and the time saved in post with the increased amount of usable footage. There is a lot to like about this gimbal but it comes at the cost of time. If you are looking for something with a steeper learning curve and is more "run and gun" try the Osmo line (I have the Osmo 4) If you try to cheat the learning curve, you will most likely be upset that you spent so much money on this product. Take a deep breath and lean into the discomfort. You'll thank me and yourself later. I also believe that the knowledge from the bumps and bruises of the RS2 learning curve are transferable. The skills you learn here will help you with any other similar rig. The improvements made on this unit that are found on the rs3 were non-issues for me. The benefit for a new user would just be a lower price point. For now, I'm happy sticking with my rs2 as it is still hitting homeruns. ... show more

Style: DJI RS 4 Pro Combo
The media could not be loaded. I was in need of some serious video stabilization equipment, so I decided to buy this dji gimble, and I must say, I made a great decision. Check the video out and see how stable it made my video. Its definitely worth the money, great performance. The weight of the gimble is manageable and it's easy to use once you get the hang it. I love the automatic locking feature for when the gimbal isn't calibrated! This is actually my first time using a gimble and everything worked out perfectly! ... show more

Coming from the RS3, the RS4 Pro handles my setup SO MUCH BETTER!
