I was looking for a reasonably priced library ladder hardware package when I came across this product. I was not looking for anything fancy, just functional. And I must admit, when I received the package I was very impressed. As advertised, all of the hardware was in fact stainless steel. I tested this with a magnet; rails, hardware and screws (stainless is not magnetic). It passed the test. It’s definitely stainless with a grade of 301 to 303. The rollers are impressively smooth. The mounting hardware is very well machined and all the screws and mounts align well. My suggestion: Because of the tight tolerances of the hardware, there isn’t any “wiggle room”. I would highly recommend that you assemble the rail assembly onto the board you intend to hang the ladder hardware on on a flat surface like a work bench. Measure accurately as once you mount the supports, there is no room for error. Once you have assembled the entire rail assembly, dissemble the rail hardware and hang the board onto the surface where the ladder will go and reassemble the rail assembly. It is not often I submit reviews but I was so impressed with working with this product that I had to give it the credit it deserves. ... show more

All of the hardware in this package feels heavy and very solid; definitely high quality. Installation tip: first take off the lower part of the mounts and leave the upper parts attached to the main rail, which will leave screw holes exposed as shown in the picture; then use clamps to hold the rail in place and mark the positions of the holes, as shown; now take off the rail and just attach the lower parts of the mounts where you have marked the holes => perfect fit. ... show more

The overall mechanism is very nice. There are two pages of very brief and incomplete directions. There are no sizes of holes to drill for attachment of the roller unit to the ladder you need to build. After several failures I have figured out what I “should” have done. Installing the rail was another project. Again, I would do that differently and maybe easier. Everything needs to be aligned to fit correctly. At the clients doing the install and find out the splice is bigger than the ID of the pipe. So I had to leave the job and go to a machine shop to get it turned down. The cost I have in time and machine shop fees is way More than this cost. Asked for a refund and nothing, they said they would ship another splice but I’m in the middle of an install and can’t wait for something to ship from China. Had an issue also with two extension tracks I ordered from also. I’m a custom woodworker and they think they can just ship something else and I wait three weeks or more then I can fix it. the parts we received were ok, but we thought we were buying the hardware (minus the wood ladder) pictured in middle photo. Now we realize that wheels were not included and we have to order separate. NOT a good deal after all. When we went back and read the description we realized that wheels were not listed as included but if they were honest it would have said "ladder and wheels at bottom are not included". We have to wonder, inconsiderate ignorant omission, or intentionally misleading. All the other kits we looked at (approx same price) had wheels. ... show more

Super precise, super high quality, but buyer beware this is not for the novice to install!!! I constructed an entire wall to wall built in book case, this was absolutely the hardest and unequivocally the most difficult thing I had to do! I'm a pretty good carpenter, but I had to take 3 days just to wrap my head around the way this mounts, IT'S VERY PRECISE AND YOU ONLY GET ONE CHANCE or your whole project is screwed and you have to start over or somehow cover up your mistake especially if it's all trimmed out and finished or painted like mine. HINT: If you were to mount it to a flat board first then mount that board it would make it a whole lot easier, I didn't have that choice because I didn't wanna cover up all my trim work I had completed (and painted). Whew! It's up and absolutely gorgeous and perfect. I'll up-date later with a photo once I get my "antique" ladder finished that I chose to go with for the character I'm going for in my library study. This railing system is very well put together. If you have some tools to drill through the rod, it is pretty straight forward to adapt it to your library's shelving configuration. I ordered the wheel kit for the bottom of the ladder, but returned it as the ladder was much more stable just resting on the floor. If you build your own ladder, be sure to pay attention to the angles to create the right length ladder. Overall, a very snazzy addition to our library. ... show more

It is solid, well made, beautifully finished and the ladder glides like silk. I cut it to fit, and everything just fell into place. I gave the ladder that we purchased in conjunction with this (they are in no way related) a one-star though it deserved zero, and the contrast between the two is amazing.
