  • Lots of advantages. Lots of disadvantagous. (Long-time daily plantronics user)
10 month update. Headset broke (see pic). It was usable (but uncomfortable) and had sound in one ear only after that. Customer service was excellent. Went to their website, registered my headset and submitted a claim. Got a little tripped up and called their 1-800 number and they were very nice and walked me though it. They sent me a replacement that came next day along with a coupon. Impressive. Still I'm docking one star so it is down to 3. It was bordering on 3 stars anyway for reasons below but this pushed it over. I hadn't sat on it or done anything to break it. Yes it had been getting daily use for 10 months, but I am willing to pay for a premium headset and that's what I expect from Plantronics. My last plantronics headset (which ended up breaking int he same spot) didn't break until after 4 or 5 years. I understood that. 10 months suggests poorer quality. ------- Updated after 6 months of daily use. I am often on the phone for 7-9 hours a day. Plantronics is the leader for real business use headsets. I had long used the Plantronics SupraPlus CS361N Noise-Canceling Wireless Headset , but it was time to replace it. The battery didn't last so long any more, one my two headsets had broken and the handset lifter wasn't always working properly. Given that my new desk phone supports bluetooth I decided to give this a try. My initial reaction was 5 stars. Now I am down to 4. This excels in some ways and not others. What I love. * This is a great headset for my cell phone. If you are used to a good office headset and then try to use a normal cell phone headset to talk on the phone, it is a huge downgrade. This headset approaches being as good as a high-quality deskphone headset. * The cradle to place the headset in works great. Being used to headsets that have a cradle to put them in, it is hard to go to a headset where you fumble plugging in a USB charger--a cradle is just so much more convenient. * Long talk time, as advertised. I can easily need to spend 9 hours on the phone and this doesn't disappoint. If I do those 9 hours from my iPhone, I find the iPhone battery starts to give up before my headset does. * Comfortable and easily adjustable. * Mic is great (way better than other good bluetooth options I have used) * Handles two phones connected at once well--better than the other bluetooth headset I had in the past with this same function. * Love the auto sensor for music. I find it works well--pausing the music when I take the headset off and resuming when I put it back on. Mute for active call does work. I've tested in plenty but I still can't bring myself to actually trust that it will work so I never actually really depend on this feature to mute when I'm on a call with others. * Some people prefer very discrete headsets. This isn't discrete--which is what I want. If I am on a call in a public place I want it to be obvious to others around me so they don't interrupt me. What isn't great I started using this as my main headset from my desk phone since my desk phone supports bluetooth. But it isn't quite there yet so I stopped doing that. Here are some reasons I don't like this headset. * The distance isn't as good as other non-bluetooth Plantronics wireless headsets. On this one I get a good 35 feet in the particular configuration of my home office. On my other headset I could get about 45 or 50. The difference for me is meaningful. * But the bigger issue than the absolute distance is how the phone acts as you start reaching the edge of what works. For non-bluetooth plantronics headsets as I get too far, I hear warning beeps and then it finally cuts out. As I walk back into range it automatically connects. On this headset, I don't get warning beeps and it doesn't reconnect well. Not good, but the worst problem is that going near the edge of the range the other end of the line hears static. Not acceptable. I am often on conference calls and I wander and pace as I listen often mostly on mute but I may need to hop off mute and say something. So to me this issue is a huge fail. I don't want everyone to hear a bunch of static that I generate while I am on mute. * The mute button placement is poor. It is attached to the microphone stick. I go on and off mute all the time. Say I'm talking and feel a cough coming on. I'll put my phone on mute right before the cough and take it off right after so I can continue talking. It was easier to do on my old headset with the mute button attached to the ear piece. In this case, the button is so close to the mic that it takes practice not to make a fumbling sound while going on mute. * I preferred the simple tone for mute on/mute off of the old headset vs the phrases "Mute on" and "Mute off" of this one. (I am able to customize the sound of mute off and so I switched it to simple tone but I am not able to customize the "Mute on" sound.) As an aside I do like the feature that if I say something while I am on mute it reminds me I am on mute. It is a bit of a pain if am purposefully speaking (to someone else) while I am on mute. But still I like that feature. * There is no visible indicator of mute. When my old non-bluetooth Plantronics wireless headset was on mute I could see the light on the base indicating it was on mute. It was nice to have that visual confirmation. With this headset there is a visual indicator on the side for others to see (as with the other headset) but no visual indicator for me to see. I like the visual indicator for others (though I wish it were still more obvious) but more than that I need one for me. Currently if I'm unsure whether I am on or off mute i brush my hand against the mic. That works but it isn't nearly as good as having a visual indicator on the base. NOTE that the headset doesn't send the mute status back to your phone. At least it doesn't with my iphone, my android or the bluetooth desk phone I am using. Too bad since if it did, looking at the phone would tell me if I were on mute. Also, on my old headset when I am mute every 30 seconds or so, the headset sends a special tone that only I hear which I have learned through experience means I am on mute. I like that. This plantronics headset does not do that. * Occasionally when I place the headset on the charger station it randomly calls the last contact I have spoken to on my iphone. This is very, very annoying. There is actually a setting in the app that sounds like it is supposed to prevent this named "Call Button Lock". However, I have tried turning that on and off and an experience this problem in both cases. * The volume is very limited and is random. Sometimes I put on the headset and the volume is so quiet I can't hear anyone. When I try to turn it up the headset says "Call Volume Maximum". Manually changing the volume on the phone doesn't help since the two are tied together and the phone also reports it is at maximum. Similarly, though much less frequently, I have had the reverse problem where the sound is too loud and I can't turn it down. The following usually works to fix that problem. Hang up. If the phone is connected to more than one cell phone turn both bluetooth connections off. Turn the headset off. Turn ANC off using the physical switch on the headset. Turn the bluetooth connection back on only for the phone you want to call from. Turn the headset back on. When it connects make sure the app for the headset is connected. Now you should be good to go. If you want you can now turn ANC back on and it will still work. I only need to do that rarely but as you can see it is huge pain when you are on the phone with someone. Aside from this particular issue that is a pain, in general I wish there was more variation in the phone volume. I want to be able to turn it up more when I need it, or down more. * I sometimes hear own voice on a delay in my headset. This happens occasionally with a consistent few set of people. It must have something to do with the particular phone setup on their side combined with this. The other party doesn't hear the feedback. Hearing my own voice back at me for very long is headache inducing. For quick calls I usually put up with it. For longer calls I hand up and call from a different phone. I only experience this issue when using this headset. Given all of my negative comments above you might think this phone deserves less than 4 stars. But despite all the problems I really like this headset because it is the best headset I've ever had for my cell phone and it turns out having a good headset for my cell phone is really nice. My biggest gripe with this headset is the crummy way it handles being close to out of range; however, that is only an issue when using it with my desk phone--which because of the issues above I have quit doing. Though I have abandoned using this headset for my desk phone, I find myself using my cell phone more from my desk with this headset. By doing that, if I am on a long call and need to go somewhere else, my range is essentially unlimited since I just take my cell phone with me. I also find that I prefer using this headset in my car to my built in car bluetooth phone. ... show more

  • Best headphone experience ever (for work)
***Update after 3 days use: It turns out the bluetooth connectivity to the internal bluetooth on the Dell laptop wasn't reliable. I had to turn off the bluetooth mouse to gain bandwidth for the headset (this was intermittent and didn't show up at first). Using the included proprietary bluetooth fob with the Dell fixed this. It also adds fidelity (greater bandwidth) to audio and enables all headset functions on the PC (mute button, battery monitor). It does make the windows 10 Dell think the headset is on even when it's not as long as the bluetooth fob is connected. Maybe they can fix this at some point. I never use the PCs internal mic or speakers so this isn't an issue for me. Plantronics doesn't make this clear in their manual; updated documentation would help. *** I have gone through 2 other headphone to find something wireless for work. These were JBl and Sony. Not cheap either. 3rd time's the charm. -There's only a quick start guide included in the box. I highly recommend downloading the full 16 page manual from Plantronics/Poly's website. In addition there is a companion PC/Mac "hub" app that provides extra features and customization. -The device seems jewel-like compared to other headsets I've used. Switches and buttons are tactile and intuitive. I'm not taking off the headset to figure out what I'm switching. -ANC is less than other headsets. More ambient noise filters through -microphone is good. There is a HD mic option in the hub software which will increase the microphone's bandwidth at the cost of using more power. Without this turned on, the Hub app reports 13 hours talk time on full charge. I haven't tried this feature as I don't think I need it. I experimented with recording my voice (Webex recording) and found the playback highly audible but flat. It's not has high fidelity as a cheap set of USB wired headphones with a boom mic, but then again I'm not using the HD feature. Noise cancelling for the microphone is excellent. I work in an area with many servers and the noise is constant high volume "white noise". None of this is obvious to the listener. -Bluetooth is excellent. I'm using a Dell laptop with internal bluetooth. Walking around the office up to 40 feet this provided a clear signal at the headset and Dell. At 40 feet (behind steel framed walls with lots of computer equipment) the signal was starting to degrade but was still perfectly understandable (again using webex recording feature to test at the laptop. It comes with a bluetooth fob that might provide more functions (mute using the mic button instead of the app), but I'd rather use the laptop's bluetooth, so I haven't tried this. -PC operations are excellent. I did not have to make any configuration changes to use it. It paired quickly with the PC (Windows 10) and was the default audio and mic for all pc apps. I did not use the included bluetooth fob. Sound fidelity on the headphones is good. Not as good as Sony or JBL, but better than the cheap logitech wired headphones I had been using. Additional integration of functions using the include bluetooth fob might be possible (mute doesn't work on the headset without it) but I don't need this. If clicking the mute button on the PC app wasn't practical then I'd try the included bluetooth fob. -phone (android motoG7) operations are excellent. First time I hit the "call" button the phone asked me if I wanted to use google (assistant) always. I chose this. Google/android responded and easily called my contacts (I also chose to share contact information on the android. Even more cool, incoming calls are announced using the name in my contact book and the headset's "voice". Sound quality is very good (amazon music app on android) and headset buttons work well to control the phone app. -interoperability is excellent. I have it paired via bluetooth with both my laptop and android phone (moto G7). I haven't played with it a lot, but for example when I call cell phone from my laptop, the headsets signal an incoming call on my cell phone and announce the caller without interrupting the call from the laptop. According to the manual, tap the call button on the headset to end the first call (if desired), and then tap again to answer the 2nd incoming call (if desired). When listening to music on the phone, if a PC alert occurs, it pauses playback on the android phone. Sensors are excellent. It knows when you put it on and announces its status. When you take it off it mutes the call (this may require using the bluetooth fob on PCs). It knows which direction the mic is swivelled and switches left/right earpieces accordingly, so you can wear the thing with the mic on either side. Pretty cool. The stand connected to my laptops dock. When the headphones are docked, the hub software recognizes it and allowed me to update the headphones firmware as well as change settings for a dozen or more features (I left the defaults, but I might play with the HD mic setting sometime). The hub software does not see the headphones when connected via just bluetooth to the PC. This may require use of the bluetooth dongle (which I don't). I updated the headset's firmware (took 5 minutes) and topped off the charge. The stand is heavy enough not to easily tip over. Very cool. Comfort is excellent. I've been wearing them for 3 hours with no discomfort. The ANC reduces background noises but doesn't eliminate them. The JBL and Sony I had to take off when not using them (too hot). Being able to mute PC apps via the headset mic mute button is going to be important for some. Sorry, I didn't try the included bluetooth fob with the hub software to see if this enabled it, but I suspect it does. ... show more

  • Not a reliable product
The first device I received stopped working after about 6 months. I was able to get a replacement fairly easily under warranty from Plantronics (not a bad experience). The second device continued having some of the issues I had with the first one. I often have to re-pair it with my computer. Sometimes when using Teams, Slack, etc... it will continually repeat "mute on" for unknown reasons. This could be a problem with the application though, so I am not ready to blame it on the headset. Noise cancellation is very mediocre. I sometimes find myself turning it on/off repeatedly trying to figure out which one is actually on. Battery life is less than advertised. You can easily drain it in the course of a work day with heavy use. The promised 14 hours of use is questionable. Not a big deal if you keep it on the charging stand when not in use, but definitely a problem if you're using it in a remote environment. The replacement device I received has worked until now. At the moment, the headset displays one blue led and one red led and does not work at all. I bought this device because I did not want to mess around with cheaper, low quality headsets. Plantronics has been a reliable name in the past. Those days may be gone. Given the high price of this device, I'd expect it to be reliable for many years. It isn't. UPDATE: Bumping to 3 stars as the 2nd pair of headphones started working after I clicked on some of the headset buttons :) I enjoy them when they work properly, but still not worth the money. ... show more
