  • Back in the water!
I really love this UV resin for quick patchwork. I've worked on two boards so far, with no experience in fiberglass and thought I came out with fantastic results. The two boards I did both required a couple of ding fills and patches on both the rails/nose. Supplies wise you probably have at least enough to cover 3 or 4 large 1"x 8" patches along with the gloss coat if you use it with fillers. I've still got probably another 1/8 of the bottle. The sandpaper that comes with it is probably around 60 and 150 grit on each side, and I'd definitely recommend using higher grits if you have them. If not, you can still make a decent repair and get back to surfing. I haven't noticed any discoloring and the resin is still liquid and working, even 4 months between the repairs. I worked on my 1st floor apartment porch out of the sun and was able to stick the repair out of the porch for a min to harden and get back to sanding, putting my working resin under a thick towel out of direct light between patches. I even got it to cure quickly in San Diego sunlight 30 min before sunset. Sands pretty easily without a surfacing agent, however I don't think it spreads out super well. I'm not gloss coating a full board with it so I don't care about that, it's quick work to knock it into shape with 80 grit. If I color matched I think the repairs would have been borderline undetectable if you take the time to feather it in nicely. You get better after a few patches. Save a ton of money and give it a try. Tips: -Get plenty of small disposable cups and stirrers, disposable shot cups work great -Clear off any wax with a scraper and mineral spirits -Cut out any flakes that come up easily -Make a tape dam (especially on the rails) and sand the surrounding area with something like 60-100 grit to roughen the surface. Also sand down the glass a little bit concave if you're using a fiberglass patch -Use some sort of filling agent to reduce weight and amount used ( q-cell, sand, powdered sugar all work for fillers) -If you want to do a rail patch and are worried about dripping or not being able to build the repair high enough to shape/blend, add carbosil or pour it into a clear container and flash it for a couple seconds in the sun, stir and check the consistency (repeat if necessary until it's thick enough to build up, also get to work, you've just shortened the pot time :D ) -If you use an opaque thickener (like q-cell) DO IT IN THIN LAYERS, otherwise it won't set up completely (ask me how I know.) With how fast it cures you can build it up pretty quickly, or just be smart and add some hardener (20-20 hindsight) -You can build up coats after glassing patch on the rail using a GLOVED finger, throw it in strong sun for 20 seconds and sand it back, and repeat till it's pretty TLDR; Works great. Keep in mind it needs decent sunlight. Wear gloves, safety squints, and a proper mask. Use higher grit sandpaper if you want it to be pretty. ... show more

  • Pretty solid intro kit
The product is super easy to use, repairs dings and scrapes, and even repaired a chipped carbon fin. I’d recommend this kit to anybody new to solar resin. The only accompanying objects you should buy (probably from a hardware store) is some 600,800, and 1200 grit sand paper to Finish. My only complaint about this product is that sometimes (if not well sanded) it flakes off. ... show more

  • Great for fast fix on older board
This kit had everything I needed to fill a couple dings on an old board. Fiberglass cloth, resin, sandpaper with two grits, mixing sticks with cup and decent instructions. It took less than a half hour to fill the dings, cure in the sun, sand down the repairs and I was good to go surfing. I would spend more time and money to fix a nice board, but for the relic I had sitting my garage this kit is exactly what I needed. ... show more

  • Works
Works. Read directions. Use on a sunny day. Take your time with application and don’t be afraid to use the cloth. More careful you are before it cured, less sanding and clean up you’ll do.
