Description

The BDR-212V is an internal SATA drive. It can burn up to 16x on BD-R (25GB) media and up to 14x on BD-R dual layer (50GB) media. The drive is also backwards compatible, so it can read and write to most DVD and CD formats. With Vinpower’s support, Pioneer improved the drive’s DVDR burning performance by providing consistent and reliable burning of any file type for the duration of the duplication process. This ensures the recordable DVD media will have a greater success rate when copying and greater reliability of playback. In addition, the enhanced BDR-212V will ensure even and uniform burning appearance across the full circumference of the disc every time, even if just burning 1 disc or during heavy use. The BDR-212V drive has features such as a QuickPlay which enables movie discs to be ready faster, a Noise Suppression design to minimize noise, an Anti-Dust design to increase durability, and Precision Writing Technology to minimize write errors. And being a Pioneer drive, the BDR-212V drive supports a wide range of blank media.

Although I might install this Blu-Ray Writer in my newly built desktop, I really bought it "just in case." I still have a number of burned Blu-Ray and DVD discs and many blanks, so I want to have a good optical drive available. I gave this drive a test run using a kit that allows it to be run externally. It performed beautifully. Quiet, responsive tray, easily read all of the written discs that I tried, and burned some data to an old DVD+RW disc without issues. Have yet to try burning a Blu-Ray disc but will soon when doing some archiving. So far I am very pleased with this drive. the amount of effort you have to go through to get a media player that can play commercial blu-ray discs is impressive! it probably took me four hours getting it fully set up, including research. why would i not look into this beforehand and save myself the trouble? because I am not a clever man. In my opinion, you should immediately set up VLC for playing commercial blu-rays BEFORE ordering this (if that is what you want to do with it), just to save yourself the effort later. on its function as a disc drive, it performs marvelously, and much more silent than I expected. it's just a shame that DRM has to hamper the ease of use of such a good product. ... show more

It's been over a year using it. Forget backing up blurays with these, a lot of bluray movies had a protection that required the device to check the internet. So I'd play the movie, and copy it with OBS software into mp4 format. I am converting all movies to mp4. Fit all episodes of Stargate on 4 blurays. I can also upscale the 480 dvd's to 720 or higher with other software I've bought. ... show more

Very easy to install, just unplug the old DVD drive and plug in this one. I have a bunch of DVDs made with a DVD recorder from Turner Classic Movies broadcasts and this drive can read some of them that my previous DVD drive couldn't.
