Top Amazon Reviews

  • Incredible value for the money! Superb quality!
Size: NVG10.
I'll cut to the chase and say these are one of the best version of NVG10s on Amazon. Read below for detailed review. First a little about myself and what I use GoYoJo night vision device for: I am a photographer and I have always loved to photograph long exposure night time photography. I am also an airsoft player that imitate military style scenarios as a hobby. Having the GoYoJo night vision device have helped me enjoy both my hobbies even more. It makes my photography easier because I don't have to do trial and error as much because I can actually see what I am capturing and set my frame. For my military reenactment airsoft hobby, I can now play at night with my group of friends at a valued price. Quality of material: Both night vision monocular and helmet mount are made of quality aluminum and feels sturdy and robust. The eyepiece may seem distorted because of packaging but it actually just needs a little bit of time to gain back it's original form. Lens are crystal clear and the glass seems like it has some quality AR coating on it like my dslr lenses. As a photographer, I can tell GoYoJo made sure the glass are premium quality. The black coating on the monocular and mount seems anodized and feels smooth to the touch and operate. Night Vision: Night vision was usable in a pitch black room with no IR illumination with a bit of noise (picture noise not sound noise if you're not familiar with camera terms) but that is to be expected with digital night vision. With built-in illuminator turned on at lowest level, the picture quality was night and day (no pun intended). The higher the level of illumination, the higher quality picture you'll get. The digital sensor on these GoYoJo NVG10 are really good at producing accurate picture and is sensitive enough to allow enough light to come in even if ambient light is next to none. The included clock on screen is nice to know the time and the compass is a nice touch. Ease of use: Without reading the instructions, I was able to put everything together and use the night vision monocular within 5 minutes. The mount was a perfect fit to my military style replica helmet (airsoft) and does not have any play. It was simple to switch from left eye to right eye and it only takes seconds to do. Adjusting the mount bracket was as easy as turning a lever to loosen or tighten. The user interface was also simple to navigate and there's pretty much only 3 buttons to press for navigating through the settings. Focus ring is nice for adjusting the focus to your vision for a clear picture. The battery was easy to charge with the included charger and the 18650 battery was great because it shares battery with my other gears (flashlight, laser, etc) so I'm always loaded with the necessary battery to operate my GoYoJo night vision device (see pictures of extra battery mounted on back of helmet). Packaging: The packaging is simple but secure. Think of it like a cellphone style packaging. The night vision device is well tucked in foam and accessories are on the side incased in a white box. The package includes the helmet mount, night vision monocular, battery, battery charger, lens wipe and a carry pouch. The carrying pouch is great for when I am not using the device, I can just throw the bag over the device while on the helmet so dust and debris doesn't get on the lens (see pictures). The instruction was easy to read even though I didn't need it. Value: There are nvg10s that costs way more and GoYoJo definitely provides value for your dollar. Comparing this to the more expensive digital night vision devices out there, I do appreciate having value options like this to compete with the big boys. Competition is good because it makes every company innovate and provide more value to the consumers. Communication: Before purchasing this device, I had a few questions regarding quality. Customer service was great and responded within a day. I was able to get my questions answered and made me feel comfortable with purchasing the product. I made a great choice in the end and it did not disappoint. Conclusion: Don't take my word for it, try it out yourself :) ... show more

  • Impressive for what it is
Size: NVG10.
So yeah it's no PVS14 but this thing is impressive for what it is. an actual 1x view that works! You can walk at night with it unlike the magnified NVS you normally see. The image is clear and it works in total darkness.

  • Great starter/backup digital NVD within its limitations
Size: NVG10.
The arm it comes with is a little funky especially compared to USGI mounts like Rhino, however it is included, so there is nothing to complain about it. A Rhino mount new costs 2/3 the entire price of this product. The mount is all aluminum and is much more durable than the other Chinese airsoft clones of the Wilcox G24 mounts. It is foam backed so it will perfectly fit in a USGI bracket or shroud without any play, however the detachment button does not smoothly operate. This means to detach it you need a flathead screwdriver to push the latch open. This issue does not happen when using Chinese made NVD shrouds. This isn't a dealbreaker though because unlike a real IIT NVD, digital won't run the risk of light damage scarring a tube so you can just leave it attached to your helmet rather than having to buy a NVD dark pouch to carry it during the day. The mount is articulated with three throw levers which tighten and loosen with a quarter turn. The first two levers control the height adjustment (much like a Rhino II) and eye relief. Naturally due to the geometry, the higher your mount is relative to your eye, the less eye relief adjustment you will have. The best way to use this is to set the height, lock down the levers and then to lift the NVD up and down by only manipulating the first lever. While this is slower than push button found on Wilcox and Norotos Losto or AKA2 arms, this is far more sturdy than the Chinese clones of the real thing which wobble and will cause image distortion while running or shooting. A NVD does not have to be flipped up rapidly because you can simply tilt your head up and look under the NVD if you need to look at something with the naked eye. This is standard operation even with real IIT night vision. The last lever clips onto the NVD adapter and controls vertical tilt and interpupillary distance by sliding it side to side. Depending on how the NVG-10 is mounted to the adapter, it can be set for left or right eye use. When set for right eye use the side bulk of the monocular is effectively hidden from the FOV. When set on the left eye, the bulk of the button layout intrudes into the FOV due to vision overlap of the right eye. This however means that the bulk is actually not practically intrusive as it will merge with the left eye vision of the monocular display. This is fortunate, as convention is to place the monocular on the left eye in order to allow the right eye to normally view optics which may not be night vision compatible either due to illumination or eye relief (such as magnified optics using a clip on NVD, IIT NVD sights, or thermal weapon sights). The mount adapter is bolted onto the monocular by six micro Phillips screws. Surprisingly, this does not come with the necessary screwdriver which is disappointing, however it is easily acquired as the screwdriver used in jewelers/eyeglass repair kits you can buy at the dollar store. It does however come with one extra screw. If the mount is undesirable, there are many stls online for 3D printing custom mounts and bridges to make this compatible with USGI arms. The fact that this mounts by screws is largely why this is easily done for CAD designers. The rechargeable battery and charger it comes with is pretty good quality. It isn't Panasonic quality, but it also isn't an "ultrafire" brand "quality" either. The charger has selectable charge rates for different battery chemistries, although it still is more of a trickle charger than a true smart charger. The eye cup is removable, and this should be done if this is to be used with goggles or similar sized eye protection. Screen brightness can be adjusted but only through the menu. This should be dimmed to reduce eye splash. This has 6x digital zoom which is selected by pressing the left arrow button which steps it up 2x at a time. Surprisingly zooming does not cause any loss in resolution, which makes the zoom a very useful feature unlike on thermal imagers and many other digital night vision devices. 1x is a true 1x which means that the naked eye vision will collimate properly with the NVG-10 display just like a real IIT NVD. The effect is like the display screen is floating in your vision. The size of the display is approximately half that of a IIT NVD FOV (such as a PVS 7, 14, or any binocular system. Note binoculars and bridged monoculars do not actually increase FOV over a monocular with the exception of panoramic configurations). The display can be switched from black and white or green. Unlike other digital NVD, the green setting does not reduce clarity, so it is a viable setting. The choice between the two should be selected based on the color scheme of any other NVD being used. For example, black and white works well with thermal imaging and white phosphor IIT NVD, while green works well with green phosphor IIT NVD. The frame rate does have some latency, but this is to be expected on all digital devices, including thermal imagers. Due to the way the screen refreshes, pivoting quickly causes the image to warp slightly like when jello is poked. However the image snaps back fast enough that it is not a practical issue and does not affect target transition time such as when doing el presidente drills. One of the best features of this device is that it has objective and ocular focus adjustments. While this may seem irrelevant due to being a digital device which one would assume would have auto focus, by not having auto focus it prevents the macro auto focus from disrupting your vision (such as smartphones that keep switching focus when looking at a distant target but with a close range object in the FOV, which is a common situation when looking through vegetation) and provides very high clarity up close or far away, and perfect screen clarity. The HUD has a compass overlay similar to the new ENVG-B. It is also surprisingly accurate and responsive and refreshes to about a rate of 7 times per second, and does not have overswing of the reading like the old USGI PVS 7/14 clip on compass does. This leads to blazing fast bearings. This internal compass is very sensitive, almost as much as a lensatic compass (I have confirmed with a cammenga lensatic compass). The compass only retains accuracy when held perpendicular to gravity. If you hold your rifle in front of your NVD, it will mess up your bearing due to the iron of the barrel disrupting the magnets, so proper navigation techniques apply. This compass function alone makes this monocular worth buying even if you already have a PVS-14 as it is a great companion to bridge with. It is far superior to the USGI NVD compass (although heavier and with a shorter battery life). The HUD also alerts you if the IR illuminator is on or off, however the indications are reversed. "Off" means the illuminator is on. The IR illuminator is not a true high wavelength illuminator so it does emit a visible red light that can be seen with the naked eye (although the light has virtually no visible throw, so the device just looks red like the splinter cell games, it does not give off red illumination on the surroundings). The illuminator has 3 brightness settings. Like the sionyx, this can emit a local wifi network so the video feed can be viewed on another device for recording as it does not have any on-board DVR. Wifi can be turned off which is important to save battery life. An auto power off setting can be selected in the menu however it only has short times of 3, 5, or 10 minutes so it is best to keep it off. This is the bad news which is considered a dealbreaker to most, but in reality it is not that big of an issue given how cheap this is. I have a generation 3, 2, and 1 IIT NVD, as well as a sionyx sport (digital NVD) to compare this monocular to. This device is not equal to Gen 1 and barely has any inherent light amplification qualities. If you dark adapt your eye, you will have better night vision than this device. However, this is actually acceptable because of the other features of this device. The big reason there is such a vast difference in review ratings is that I think some people don't realize they have the IR illuminator on (note the reversal of the illuminator status HUD), while others have properly turned it off. This device is virtually useless if the IR illuminator is off except for use as an IR light source detector, or to use the compass function (which again, is good enough that it is worth buying for this function alone). The reality is that unless you use Gen 3, you will have to use supplemental IR illumination in any environment that is darker than natural night vision can compensate for. In some situations such as basements, even gen 3 will require IR illumination. If you have to use any IR illumination at all, then your generation does not really matter as you will be emitting a light source anyways. While higher generations (notably Gen 2 and 3) can properly be illuminated with a much dimmer light source, the difference is irrelevant as any light source at all compromises any concealment you would have against another IIT NVD operator. Due to how cheap this device is ($320), it is worth buying this than to spend $600 on a syonix or worse $2,200 on a gen 2 NVD when you are likely going to need to use IR illumination anyways. Gen 2 is extremely overrated because almost none of the civilian in the world have gen 3 except for Americans, so nearly all of the claims on Gen 2 capability are by Europeans who have never used Gen 3 and do not know about the vast difference in light gathering. Gen 2 needs a lot of ambient light to get a good image quality. This is generally possible in urban areas but unlikely in rural areas except on near full moon nights. Consequentially in many situations where you need to use IR illumination with the NVG10, you would probably want IR illumination with Gen 2 as well. The only real benefit of a Gen 2 over the NVG10 is that the FOV would be wider, but for $600 you could buy two of these and panoramic bridge them and get a wider FOV at a far lower cost than a single IIT monocular or binocular (which can't articulate panoramically). One of the major benefits of this device is that because it has such a high resolution, it is virtually identical to an IIT tube when using an IR illuminator unlike other digital devices which can't see clearly past 100 yards no matter how powerful IR illumination you use due to the resolution limitation. When this device reaches the limitation of its visibility it does not produce a black and white static noise like other digital night vision produce. Instead it produces a very fine noise which is identical to what you would find on a real IIT NVD, which is not distracting and does not "cover up" the image. This is a major advantage as it is what makes this product worth buying even if one could 3D print a digital NVD like is becoming popular, because the sensors that printed NVD uses are far inferior in quality to the sensor this uses. Sensors that do have better light gathering and image quality cost a lot more than the NVG10. Most people are hesitant on paying thousands of dollars for Gen 3 night vision and for these people this is a great product for them to buy as it will give you the experience of what night vision is like for only a few hundred dollars and help make a more sound judgement on one's needs. The skills you learn with this device (mainly proprioception and coordination when running) will translate over perfectly if you do choose to upgrade to a real IIT night vision. My intended purpose for this is to use this for airsoft as the clarity is good but won't have the risk of OPFOR lasers scarring my tube. As this is digital, it is virtually impervious to light damage. Tube scarring isn't a huge risk as most IIT autogating minimizes damage, but this eliminates the risk altogether. At most public fields in night games, very few people have any night vision at all, which negates any possible disadvantage to using the IR illuminator. A side benefit of this product is that due to its high resolution, powerful IR illuminator, and ability to use during the day, this is a great device for finding hidden cameras like pin hole cameras which can't be done with other NVD except at night due to the risk of damaging the tubes. The NVG-10 can theoretically be used for a real world situation (security patrols, bugging out, maybe even home defense if your property is large) primarily because most people don't have any night vision (even many police departments lack them to this day) and this with the illuminator on is far superior to natural night vision. However it still must be understood that this isn't a Gen 3 device so you won't get Gen 3 capabilities. For the price it is, it's a good deal with its limitations understood. You aren't wasting your money buying this even if you later decide to get a Gen 3 IIT NVD. I have Gen 3 IIT NVD and I still find value in this product. ... show more

*UPDATED! I had an issue with our night vision googles and the company was NOT responsive! Very disappointing based on how much money we paid for it.* My son wanted this for when we go hiking. It works great! It does NOT come with a helmet so if you're looking at the photo thinking it comes with a helmet it doesn't, but I actually like that it's more versatile this way. And it's great for when my son goes hiking without us, he'll be able to take great night videos and show us when he gets home! Also love that it comes with a rechargeable battery, so we don't have to fly through batteries all the time. ... show more
