  • Required setting Air Gap to 0.6mm!
This compressor was a direct fit for our 1997 GMC Suburban K1500. Installation is not, however, uninvolved. I had to transfer the pressure switch from the old compressor to the new compressor, and -- most importantly -- I had to set the air gap for the clutch, which required going to AutoZone to borrow the AC clutch tools. To set move the pressure switch, one must remove a circlip to free the old switch off the old compressor, then remove a plug from the new compressor, and then install the switch. The Air Gap was a surprise. I didn't think to check it in advance, so only when we started charging the system did it become obvious that the air gap was 0 (zero) mm. This meant that, even with the AC off (i.e. clutch disengaged, compressor "off"), the clutch was turning the compressor. Except that it was slipping and making a terrible noise. We shut the car off and after researching, determined it was the air gap -- on the new compressor, there was no gap. So, we had to head off to AutoZone to borrow their AC clutch tools, pull the clutch off the new compressor, and then push it back on little by little until it had the specified 0.6mm gap. The air gap should have been set at the factory, and as it wasn't, I would have been justified returning the compressor; however, time is money, and we opted to do the clutch adjustment instead. After making those changes, the job was textbook. ... show more

  • Well worth buying this. Save $100's of dollars in the long run. Don't buy re manufactured.
I spent approximately $700 redoing my complete A/C system on my 1998 suburban. I bought a re manufactured compressor from a very popular auction site. After completing the whole entire system with countless hours I had the system flushed and filled. Within the first few minutes of running it the pump sounded terrible. I had the Freon pulled out and I got a replacement pump from the company. After a week of regular driving the pump imploded and filled my entire system with aluminum fragments. I had to pull out and replace the entire a/c system again. However this time I did it with A/C delco and Delphi parts. It did cost a little bit more, but it's well worth it. It works flawless and I'll have years and years of a perfect running A/C. Definately spend the money and buy this pump. It's the heart of the system and it may cost a little more up front but in the long run I could have saved $100's of dollars and probably 12 hours of labor. ... show more

  • Direct fit, works perfect with nice lower pressures.
Worked great? Easy install, fit perfect. Remember to check your bracket it fits on to see that the compressor lays on flatly it with no movement before TORQUING the attachment bolts. These brackets have been known to be warped or not flat and this will tweak the compressor causing it to leak badly. So will not slowly torquing up the attachment bolts. ... show more

  • I am pleased with this compressor
The media could not be loaded. I read a lot of reviews on this compressor for my 1997 Chevrolet pickup and was concerned with the running clearance of the pulley and the noise of the unit. I got a good one, because I had no issues. It sounds and runs great. I attached a video for you to hear it. I hope it helps! ... show more
